Elne is a commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in southern France. It lies in the former province of Roussillon, of which it was the first capital, being later replaced by Perpignan. Its inhabitants are still called Illibériens in reference to the city's Iberian name, Illiberis, one that it shared with the Illiberis that became Granada, Spain.

Perpignan is a southern French city near the Mediterranean coast and the border with Spain. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Majorca during the 13th century, and a significant Catalan influence is evident in its medieval core. South of the old town, the huge Gothic-and-Romanesque Palace of the Kings of Majorca has ramparts with views to the coast.

Framed by the peaks of the Pyrenees 13km west of the Mediterranean coastline and just 38km north of the Spanish border, Perpignan radiates out from the tight knot of the old town's warren of alleys, palm-shaded squares and shabby tenements painted in shades of lemon, peach and tangerine. Historically, Perpignan (Perpinyà in Catalan) was capital of the kingdom of Mallorca, a Mediterranean power that stretched northwards as far as Montpellier and included all the Balearic Islands; the Mallorcan kings’ palace still stands guard at the southern end of the old town. Its proximity to Spain means the town is strong on fiestas.

Perpignan (Perpinyà in catalan) is the capital of the department of Pyrénées-Orientales, the Northern Catalonia part of France and is situated about 15km from the sea. Perpignan is home to about 117 000 people, and has two rivers flowing through it; with the Têt to the north, and the Basse through the centre.

The main way to get around in Perpignan (due to its relatively small size) is by foot, but there are buses run by Compagnie Transports that go right through the city centre, and then further out, even going as far as Cabestany and Canet. Driving is also a good way to get about, with lots of underground parking in the city centre, but beware, during the summer and 'tourist season' there will be a lot of traffic, and few parking places left.

The Cathedral of St Jean Baptiste was begun in 1324 and finished in 1509. From the outside unimpressive but inside a formidable construction in the typical south French gothic style. Alot to see in ( Perpignan - France ) such as :

Le Musée Somme 1916 d'Albert (80)

Le musée Somme 1916 est aménagé dans un souterrain qui servit d'abri anti-aérien à la population lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale à dix mètres de profondeur et sur une longueur de 230 m. Son entrée est située à droite de la basilique Notre-Dame de Brebières d'Albert
Fin 1991, sous l’impulsion de la Municipalité, l’idée de créer un musée rendant hommage aux combattants de la Grande Guerre prit forme. L'Association Somme 1916 est créée. Sous la direction de Thierry Gourlin (à cette époque responsable du centre de secours principal d’Albert), une équipe encadra un chantier d’insertion qui entreprit les travaux de réfection et de mise en conformité d’un souterrain existant.
Le musée ouvrit ses portes le 1er juillet 1992, cette année là on enregistra 10 000 entrées. Ce chiffre est passé à 54 500 en 2012 dont 60% de touristes anglophones.
Chaque année, le musée acquiert de nouvelles pièces et améliore la présentation de ses collections.
Ce musée souterrain situé à 10 mètres sous terre est constitué d'une quinzaine d'alcôves (ou abris), de part et d'autre d'une galerie de 250 mètres de long. Dans la galerie, des armes et équipements militaires sont exposés dans des vitrines ainsi que des affiches, articles de journaux et photos. Dans les alcôves a été reconstitué le quotidien des soldats dans les tranchées lors de l’offensive franco-britannique de 1916. Les panneaux explicatifs sont rédigés en allemand, anglais, français et néerlandais. Pour terminer la visite, la Galerie des Héros retrace le parcours de certains personnages qui se sont illustrés pendant la Bataille de la Somme :
