Elora, ON: The Most Beautiful Village In Canada?
Some call Elora, Ontario The Most Beautiful Village In Canada...they could be lying but it's definitely really nice. I went on a quick trip with Fel and Wes from Feather and the Wind to check out the Elora Gorge and the surrounding area. I also decided to try a different method of documenting my trip...a more pretentious one ;)
Thanks to Fel and Wes for providing me with the drone footage AND an awesome time!

About Elora and the Elora Gorge
The village of Elora is a bustling tourist community within the Township of Centre Wellington.
The nearest city is Guelph Ontario and you can get to Elora from Toronto Pearson in a little over 1hr. There's something about this place. It's mysterious and arty. It's been hailed Ontario's Most Beautiful Village. Let's take a look!
The two primary communities of The Township of Centre Wellington are the village of Elora and the town of Fergus. Amalgamated in 1999, the area is a thriving tourist destination thats bursting with natural wonder, stunning scenery, and adventure. From tubing, swimming, zip lining and ice climbing, there's plenty to do for adventure seekers. For the photographer at heart, there's a mysterious or awe-inspiring photo around every corner. Filled with historic bridges, caves, hikes and trails there is plenty to explore any time of year.
The charm of Centre Wellington has caught the attention of popular blogs, bloggers and was recently profiled in National Georgraphic.
Communities divided by a grand river
The communities are both divided in half by the Grand River which flows from neighbouring Grand Valley to the shores of Lake Erie (south of Dunnville) The 2 kilometer stretch that form the Elora Gorge are considered the most captivating. Carved away from a previous iceage, the remaining 80ft stonecliff limestone walls that remain are incredible.
Seasonal Activities at the Elora Gorge
During the summer, the Elora is a popular tourist destination and retreat from the city. Located a little over 1 hour away from Toronto Pearson Airport, Elora & Fergus is a short drive for most Southern Ontario residents.
Elora Gorge Tubing and Zip Lining
During the summer popular activities at the Elora Gorge include tubing and lazy river rafting down the Grand River, hiking the trails and exploring the caves, zip lining, or an Instagram at the Elora Gorge Lookout.
Beach time at the Elora Gorge
There are plenty of areas along the gorge to access the Grand River however if you're looking to soak up some sun, the Elora Quarry is 1km away and considered one of Ontario's best-kept secrets.
Appealing to your creative side
While you're at the Elora Gorge stop in a explore the village. The area has nurtured an eclectic mix of acclaimed artists, painters and creatives. The Elora Centre for the Arts now showcases some of the incredible art, in what was previous Elora School which has been standing for over 160 years.
Food, Dining and Accommodations
From 5 star gourmet dining to typical grab-and-go, you'll find everything you need here. Camping is a popular option during the summer but the area has a vibrant and impressive list of hotels. Like the newly renovated Elora Mill & Spa which overlooks the best view of the cascading waterfalls of the Elora Gorge. Stunning.
Grocery Stores, LCBO, Cannabis and Fast food
Neighbouring Fergus Ontario is a full-service community with fast-food restaurants and multiple grocery stores if you're looking the stock-up. You'll find an LCBO in both Elora and Fergus but in 2018 the Township of Centre Wellington opted out of a local cannibis retail stores.
Movies and filming at the Elora Gorge
In recent years, Elora & Fergus have been gaining international attention and a popular choice for movie makers and film studios. Recently Steven King filmed parts of his horror movie IT at the nearby Elora Quarry.
There is a picture-perfect opportunity around every corner. This a photographers dream.

Filmed July 26th-28th. The place was pretty neat, 100's of unique campsites to suit you, friends or families needs. Some were hidden, others on open flat grass which is good for games and keeping an eye on kids. Tubing was a lot of fun, 25 dollars a day but tube alone is 10 dollars, just bring your bike helmet and on PFD. Be sure to rent early on a satruday, we did not go until Sunday and they were almost sold out at noon. What I found most interesting is the forests are full of Cedar trees, I have only seen something close to that up at Bruce Peninsula National Park.
The downside to this park is it lacks a nice beach to swim at, however Elora Quarry filmed at the end is a short drive to the other side of town and with Campground pass you can get in there for free. Another downer is the washroom facilities, only one I saw with showers and flush toilets was at the rental building and for the first time ever I had to put a quarter in just to run the shower for 2 mins.
All and all I will go back again, website for park and GPS tracks from biking are below.

Elora Gorge River tubing review - summer Ontario Canada
The Elora Gorge is one of the most beautiful and spectacular natural area in the Grand River valley. The Grand River rushes through the gorge, which has 22-metre high cliffs. Riverside trails (with safety barriers) and scenic overlooks provide hikers with stunning views of the water far below where kayakers and tubers make their way through the rapids.
Please note that warning signs are posted throughout the conservation area regarding safety around the gorge. Exercise caution during your visit, and stay on the trails. Stay away from the edge of the gorge and do not climb over the fences.

Tubing
An exhilarating ride down the Grand River on an inner tube offers a new way to experience the scenery and wonder of the cliffs above. Tubers must register at the concession and purchase a wristband. They must wear proper safety equipment which is rented at the concession. Deposits are required for all equipment. Tubers must return equipment by 7 p.m.
To ensure that tubing is open (it is occasionally closed due to high water levels and safety concerns), check the newsroom for beach and tubing conditions or contact the conservation area directly.
Tubing is a popular activity. It is advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment. Equipment rentals are limited and on a first-come first-served basis only; availability of equipment cannot be guaranteed.
Those under 18 must have a legal guardian sign a waiver and must be at least 42 inches tall. A shuttle bus service operates weekends only during July and August

[4K] Elora Quarry - A Gorgeous Swimming Hole in Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Ontario Canada
Elora Quarry Conservation Area, a 0.8 hectare (two acre) former limestone quarry is encircled by sheer cliffs up to 12 metres (39 ft) high. Elora Quarry did not become a conservation area until 1976, but it was a popular swimming area long before that.
The Quarry served as a film location in the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s novel It.

Elora Gorge Spring Streamlet, Elora Ontario
For millennia, the limestone slopes surrounding Elora Gorge have drained into the Grand River 26 metres below. Rills seasonally fill. Erosion slowly deepens their beds until they resemble, in microcosm, the gorge itself. This slide show presents early spring close-up views of a streamlet's flow into the Grand River at Elora Gorge, bookended with life quotes by Stephen Mitchell and the Buddha.

ELORA GORGE & QUARRY -ELORA, ONTARIO
After seeing pictures of the gorge and quarry on Instagram I decided I wanted to go see it myself. After hiking to the bottom of the gorge the river was very shallow so I walked for a few kilometers in the river until it got deeper and the current got stronger. Wasn't able to go swimming at the quarry because there was a thunderstorm at the time but I still got to check it out!

Tubing the Elora Gorge
This video is of the starting point for tubing the Grand River at Elora Gorge Conservation Area in Ontario, Canada. This is the toughest part of the trek down river with the 'washing machine' rapids overturning nearly all who make an attempt. However, you can simply enter the river below the rapids...
The conservation area is located just outside the town of Elora, Ontario. Elora is located north of Guelph and Cambridge.
Video was taken on August 26, 2012 with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2. Still images at the end were taken with a Canon Rebel T3i. Video was edited with Corel VideoStudio Pro x4.
