Elwood Beach - Melbourne Australia
O Anderson aproveitou um dia lindo de sol para pedalar na praia de Elwood, que tem areia branca e é boa para a prática de esportes como: natação, vela e canoagem. Sem falar que dá muita vontade de comprar uma das casas de frente para o mar.

Elwood Historical Walking Tour
THIS VIDEO WAS COMPILED BECAUSE; WE HAVE FAMILY IN THE AREA & I WANTED TO GAIN SOME HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE.
It just so happened that David Newton of MEETUPS, was conducting a tour, at the opportune time. (I asked David's permission to take video).
[There will not be another video of this type produced by me].
David makes a living from this activities and I want to promote his walking tours both in Melbourne and in Sydney.
David also organizes social MeetUp groups as well.
David also organised an excellent luncheon for the walking group on the shore of Port Phillip Bay, afterwards.
David also publishes his BOOKS ON AMAZON.

Elwood was named by Lieutenant-Governor Charles La Trobe after Thomas Ellwood, an influential English Quaker.
Quarantine Station Site c 1840 – Point Ormond, Elwood, Melbourne, VIC.
Sited at the western end of Glen Huntly Road, at Point Ormond in Elwood, Victoria, is the locale of Victoria’s very first quarantine station dating back to 1840 – not five years since John Batman proclaimed that “This will be the Place for a Village” on the 8th June 1835:
“SQUIZZY TAYLOR”, IN ELWOOD.
John Theodore Leslie ‘Squizzy’ Taylor, Melbourne’s most notorious gangster of the 1920’s, often frequented Elwood.
In 1923 twelve police raided 443 Barkly Street, arresting him and an accomplice for the murder of a bank manager. Perce Lambell, who led the raid, was an Elwood resident who owned Belmac on the corner of Mitford Street and Broadway.
On 27 October 1927, Taylor argued with rival gangster Snowy Cutmore in a sly grog shop; that Squizzy was managing, in Tennyson Street, before pursuing him to a shoot-out, in Carlton. Where Taylor was fatally wounded.
In 1997, renovations to a property, now 60-66 Glenhuntly Road (corner Spray Street).
The house is now sub-divided into flats. According to local legend, Squizzy had hidden in the house in the 1920’s, constructing an escape tunnel to the Elwood canal. Newspapers under the floor coverings dated around 1921 fit with the fact that Taylor spent most of that year in hiding, evading an arrest warrant and taunting police with letters to the media.
HISTORY OF TRAMS, ELWOOD
TRAMS TO THE RESCUE”
Shops and services in Elwood received a huge boost on 5 May 1906 when Thomas Bent, Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Railways, opened Victoria’s first suburban electric tramway after years of lobbying by the Elwood Railway League. Bent used a loophole in the law to force a railway bill through Parliament to improve his land values in Brighton. The new ‘electric street railway’ ran from St Kilda Station via Grey, Barkly, Mitford, Broadway, Ormond and St Kilda Streets to Park Street near the Brighton Baths.

Mordialloc to Elwood in 4 minutes... Riding with St Kilda CC in a super fast hyper-lapse
A leap off the paths as we go to Beach Rd, a training area that runs down the length of the Bay from the inner East of Port Melbourne all the way to Sorento.
Although it has many names, we call it Beach Rd, and although it leaves the beach, it always returns back eventually. Known for rides like the Hell Ride through to Club Rides, used by Around the Bay with Bicycle Network and many triathlons.
We are blessed in Melbourne with this stretch of road, with less lights and long runs, this is a great road for training.
St Kilda Cycling Club have many rides during the week that calls this road home, as a member I recorded this on Thursday Pro Hours ride.
