Dornoch to Embo
The little village of Embo lies just a few miles north of Dornoch on the road to Loch Fleet. There has been a settlement at this location since at least the Bronze Age - a fine example of a burial cairn can be seen in the centre of the village at the entrance to the caravan park.
Embo was formerly a fishing village, as can be seen from the lanes and rows of little cottages that run in parallel down to the beach. However, nowadays the village is a centre for tourism with families attracted by the long, clean, sandy beaches.

THE PERFECT STORM Grannies heilan hame Parkdean Embo Scotland power of the sea
Apologies for the dodgy vocals, (full of cold). Anyway, I couldn't wait so here it is:
On Dec 16th 2012 the 'perfect storm' hit the east of Scotland. High tides caused damage from Shetland down to North Berwick. A highly unusual combination of tidal forces, strong winds, south easterly gales and low pressure brought conditions not experienced in decades. Communities describing it as ''the worst storm in living memory''. Suitably inspired, I wrote this song about the event and coupled it with the photos I took to create this video which I hope captures the mood, power and feel of the day.
Guitar is a Yamaha APX - 5A. I used a cut capo.
General interest is I suppose is Folk Music, Guitar vocalist original composition
Lyrics:
STORM COME, AND WASH ALL THE SAND AWAY
WIND COME, AND BLOW ALL MY DREAMS AWAY
AND ALL WILL SAY, THAT HERE TODAY,
BORE WITNESS TO THE POWER OF THE SEA.
WAVE SONG, CALLS VILLAGERS TO THE SEA
HEARTS TORN, THE DAMAGE AND THE DEBRIS
AND SOME DRAWN NEAR, TO SHED A TEAR,
FOR ALL THAT'S LEFT OF EMBO PIER
CHILDREN, ASK QUESTIONS OF THE OLD
SEARCHING, THE ANSWERS TO UNFOLD
BUT STORIES OLD, HAVE NEER BEEN TOLD
THE WONDER AND THE POWER OF THE SEA
AND YOU MIGHT BE, INSPIRED LIKE ME
TO SING ABOUT THE POWER OF THE SEA
Love and Blessings.

In the air, on the beach and under the sea at Embo for flounder
Longer than my usual this is a sunny September morning on the beach at Embo on Sutherland's east coast.
There were plenty of flounders about but all on the wee side but still an enjoyable session.
All the fish came to home frozen mackerel.
The rod I use for close in work is the 4.2m Colmic Teknika XT coupled, in the case with a Mitchell Avocast 8000.
The video features footage from a Parrot Anafi drone, the Xiaomi Yi action cam and the Spydro underwater camera.
The timings from the video files allowed me to match the underwater footage with what I was seeing on the rod tip.

Places to see in ( Dornoch - UK )
Places to see in ( Dornoch - UK )
Dornoch is a town and seaside resort, and former Royal burgh in the Highlands of Scotland. It lies on the north shore of the Dornoch Firth, near to where it opens into the Moray Firth to the east. The town is within the Highland local government council area, and within the county of Sutherland.
The name 'Dornoch' is derived from the Gaelic for 'pebbly place', suggesting that the area contained pebbles the size of a fist (dorn) which could therefore be used as weapons. Dornoch has the thirteenth-century Dornoch Cathedral, the Old Town Jail, and the previous Bishop's Palace which is now the well-known hotel, Dornoch Castle and a notable golf course, the Royal Dornoch Golf Club, named the 5th best golf course outside the United States in 2005 by Golf Digest magazine.
It is also notable as the last place a witch was burnt in Scotland. Her name was Janet Horne; she was tried and condemned to death in 1727. There is a stone, the Witch's Stone, commemorating her death, inscribed with the year 1722. The golf course designer Donald Ross began his career as a greenkeeper on the Royal Dornoch links. The golf course is next to the award-winning blue flag beach.
Dornoch used to be connected to the main railway network at The Mound via a light railway. The railway was opened on 2 June 1902. Stations on the line were Dornoch, Embo, Skelbo, Cambusavie Halt and The Mound Junction. The stations were shut on 13 June 1960. Dornoch was a parliamentary burgh, combined with Dingwall, Kirkwall, Tain and Wick in the Northern Burghs constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1708 to 1801 and of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1918. Cromarty was added to the list in 1832.
