Emerald Lake, Yukon, Canada, 9-16-2012
Emerald Lake is a lake in the southern Yukon, notable for its intense green color. It is located on the South Klondike Highway at kilometer 117.5 (mile 73.5), measured from Skagway, Alaska. The color derives from light reflecting off white deposits of marl, a mixture of clay and calcium carbonate, at the bottom of the shallow waters.
The high concentration of calcium carbonate in the water here comes from limestone gravels eroded from the nearby mountains and deposited here 14,000 years ago by the glaciers of the last ice age. Glacial erosion was likewise responsible for scooping out the shallow lakebed. (from Wikipedia.)

This was the farthest North that we'd go on our voyage. Small lake to the West of the Klondike Highway. From here, we'd turn around and go back into Carcross.

When you are a film maker living in the Yukon, you just have to have a drone, the landscapes are just too amazing!
Don't worry, there will be more mouse videos, just wanted to try my hand at editing my first set of drone footage.....

In this part we continue to fish Snafu, then we proceed to drive into Whitehorse and check out town, before heading up to little fox to catch come grayling and small lakers. We catch a number of fish, Large pike, some nice grayling, and some small Lakers. We drove in from Alaska and hit the lakes. Great times to be had in the Yukon!
If you are driving through I suggest throwing a canoe on top and fishing some of the great lakes the yukon has to offer and if you are not from the Yukon a season long license is only $35. Great opportunities with a canoe at some lakes and a great way to pass some time. Canadian Campgrounds are reasonable and the Yukon does an amazing job at making sure they are well kept! Kudos to the YUKON for their quality outdoor experiences. If you don't want to stay at a campground Queens land camping is free and it saves space for other campers! This is a beautiful land

We continue to pound the pike in this part. Fishing in clear water is amazing. It is awesome seeing pike laying on the bottom in the sticks of a beaver dam.
I fished here for a few days with my kids and met up with a buddy and met someone else I took out as well. The older gentleman is from Germany and I met him and his wife and took him out for a ride and some trolling. He had a blast and sure enough I was at the lake again at the same time this year and they were there again! The Yukon is an amazing place! This is my family vacation fishing with the kids and meeting up with my brother and nephew. Remember barbless on many or most Yukon waters. We caught some whitefish and grayling on the way and when we got to Snafu just pike. Some giants. My nephew caught most of the giant pike. We had a blast. Check out the second Vid to see the trip and the fishing. Yukon territory Canada fishing canadian pike fishing.
My nephew and I went out and he caught pike after pike. These are some of the larger ones. These were caught over the course of 3 days and the day him and I went out in the canoe the fish were hungry for his lure. Remember go Barbless and catch and release. I went out this year and the weather was Cold and the fish were sluggish. I would say one of every 6-8 had a broken gill and had been caught before. They can survive pike better than Lake trout, but just be careful, they are a precious resource. giant pike fishing Polarized glasses were a definite plus and I think are a must on any fishing trip.
Canada's Yukon
We rented a car and traveled from Skagway, Alaska via the Klondike Highway up through the Yukon and had a fantastic day! Highlights were visiting the Carcross Desert and Caribou Crossing, where we had the chance to meet the huskies training for dogsledding races.
