360 video: Arch of Peace, Milan, Italy
Arch of Peace is a 25 metres high neoclassical triumphal arch, located in the centre of Milan. It marks one of the city's historical gates, Porta Sempione.
Although the Arch only stands here since the 19th century, the area of the Porta has a much longer history. The gateway was already in use during the times of the ancient Romans, when it served to control the surrounding areas through its strategic position.
The Arch itself has a rich history, too. It was erected to celebrate peace, which is also symbolically depicted by one of the statues at its top, driving a carriage pulled by six horses.
However, while it was originally commissioned by Napoleon as a celebration of his victories, the works on the Arch only drew to a close under orders of emperor Franz Josef I. of Austria, Napoleon's adversary and one of the men ultimately responsible for his defeat.
The nearest train station is Milano Domodossola and the nearest metro station, which is about a 12-minute walk away, is Lanza (line 2).

VENICE, MYSTERIOUS 3rd century BYZANTINE SCULPTURE in ST MARK'S BASILICA ⛪ (ITALY)
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's view the very curious 'The Portrait of the Four Tetrarchs' which is a porphyry sculpture group of four Roman emperors dating from around 300 AD. Since the Middle Ages it has been fixed to a corner of the façade of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy. It probably originally formed part of the decorations of the Philadelphion in Constantinople, and was removed to Venice in 1204 or soon after.
Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs.
Italy, a European country with a long Mediterranean coastline, has left a powerful mark on Western culture and cuisine. Its capital, Rome, is home to the Vatican as well as landmark art and ancient ruins. Other major cities include Florence, with Renaissance masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s David and Brunelleschi's Duomo; Venice, the city of canals; and Milan, Italy’s fashion capital.

Basilica San Lorenzo Maggiore – Columns & Exterior – Milan | Audio Guide | MyWoWo (Travel App)
The Basilica of San Lorenzo is one of the oldest monuments in Milan!
If you've done a bit of shopping in the boutiques of Via Torino, you must have been impressed by the imposing Roman colonnade that suddenly appears when you turn left onto Corso di Porta Ticinese. These are the Columns of San Lorenzo, the most important archaeological remains from ancient Milan, Mediolanum, which remind us that the Palace of the Roman Emperor stood right near here many centuries ago.
These sixteen elegant white marble columns are about eight meters tall and were transported here around the fourth century AD, perhaps from an even older pagan temple. The columns gave access to a vast rectangular colonnade that led to the Basilica of San Lorenzo. Porta Ticinese, one of the city's six major gates, is near the columns; this area is also one of the favorite meeting points for Milanese youth thanks to the various trendy bars in its surroundings.

Palace of Saint George, Genoa, Liguria, Italy, Europe
Palazzo San Giorgio, Palazzo delle Compere or St George, is a historic building of the most important and popular of Genoa. Currently it houses the headquarters of the Port Authority of Genoa. The building, including in the district of Molo, consists of two distinct parts: an older part, a typical example of medieval civil architecture, with the prospect facing the porch of Sottoripa, and a renaissance, facing the sea, in which prospectus, overlooking via the Merchandise, the short street that connects Piazza Loading and Piazza Cavour, near the old port, opens the portal of the main entrance. Initially called the palace of the sea, because it directly overlooking the docks, with the sea that lapped at the foundation, was built and designed by Friar Oliverio, architect and monaco Cistercian, around the middle of the thirteenth century as the town hall; It became the seat of the customs and in the fifteenth century it passed to the Banco di San Giorgio, from which it took its name. Expanded in the sixteenth century, it was completely restored in the second half of the work of Alfredo d'Andrade after a period of decline; from 1903 it houses the offices of the Port of Genoa. The building is today in a double aspect to the porch of the Ripa the thirteenth century building, in red brick and stone base, and the sixteenth-wing reaching out to the harbor, with the painted plaster. The part to the east, facing the facades of Sottoripa, is medieval, dating from 1260, which today we see in its restructuring nineteenth century; gray stone promontory square on the ground floor and exposed brick on the upper floors, crowned by Ghibelline battlements, the base has a portico consisting of five pointed arches supported by four columns and a pillar at each end. The facade, lightened by three lights and four, is devoid of ornaments: There was a time a fresco, made in the late fifteenth century by Carlo Braccesco, said Carlo del Mantegna, depicting St. George and the dragon. Of this painting, still well preserved in the eighteenth century, there were still traces of the first nineteenth century restorations, as evidenced by several authors of the time. Through the central arch of the portico opens the entrance, which was one of the building until 1912, when the new entrance was opened on the sea. Above the portal is a mask with a figure of a lion, and two other small lion heads you see on the edges at the sides of the porch; these small sculptures, Gothic but with influences of ancient Greece, were from the palace representative of the Venetians in Constantinople, called the Pantocrator, that the Genoese had obtained by the Byzantine emperor Michael VIII Palaeologus for their help against the Empire Latin Eastern and decided in the Treaty of Nymphaeum. Next to the entrance there is the plaque celebrating the foundation of the building. Via della Merchandise overlooking the wing century, with its facade entirely covered with frescoes by Raimondo Sirotti that follow those made at the beginning of the twentieth century by Ludovico Pogliaghi, which in turn had rebuilt, reinterpreting them, the original of Tavarone. The painted decoration of the facade plays a marble cladding with rusticated ground floor and pilasters that divide the table into three sections. At the center of the facade, above the imposing marble portal access, is the figure polychrome depicting St. George on horseback slaying the dragon, recurring image in many portals of the buildings of the old town: the saint in the Middle Ages was in fact considered the symbol of the Republic. The subject was freely interpreted by Sirotti in 1990, having disappeared all traces of the original seventeenth century. On either side, from left to right, are painted six statues, bronze color, inside false niches, depicting some historical figures of the Republic: the chronicler Caffaro, the Prince Andrea Doria, the Doge Simone Boccanegra (according to some the painting would represent rather the founder of the palace, Guglielmo Boccanegra), the leader crusader William Embriaco said hammer head, the navigator Christopher Columbus and finally admiral Benedetto Zaccaria. Complete the decoration figures of Janus and Neptune, also in faux bronze, and the emblem of the Conservative of the Sea, the body entrusted with the government of the port at the time of the Republic of Genoa. The facade culminates with the clock tower. From the entrance located in the Merchandise, in the statement to the sea, through a wide staircase leads to the sixteenth-century hall Compere, on the first floor; the living room is surrounded by niches in the walls with statues of the benefactors of the Tour.

Places to see in ( Piacenza - Italy ) Palazzo Farnese
Places to see in ( Piacenza - Italy ) Palazzo Farnese
Palazzo Farnese is a palace in Piacenza, northern Italy. This large partly constructed palace is located on the banks of the River Po in the city of Piacenza in Northern Italy. In 1556, Ottavio Farnese, Duke of Castro and of Parma, also became Duke of Piacenza and initially set up his court there. Ottavio decided on a residence in the city possibly because he could feel more secure due to the presence of a Spanish garrison.
The palace was commissioned by Ottavio's wife, Margaret of Austria, daughter of Emperor Charles V. The new edifice was erected over a former fortress built by the Visconti in 1352, part of which can still be seen. An initial design was made by Francesco Paciotto, from Urbino, and in 1558, the architect Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola, better known as Vignola, was brought in to revise the designs. Vignola had already been commissioned to design the Villa Farnese at Caprarola (Latium) for Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, the older brother of the Duke.
Vignola had to take Piacotto's design into account but significantly revised the design which was presented to the patrons in 1561. The drawings are for a vast palace on a scale paralleled only by the Vatican Palace in Italy; the rectangular plan is circa 111 metres by 88 metres.[1] The building works were entrusted to Giovanni Bernardo Della Valle, Giovanni Lavezzari and Bernardo Panizzari (Caramosino). The actual construction, however, made up only less than a half of Vignola's original project and lacked many of the planned architectural features; missing elements include part of the exterior surrounding walls, the main façade modelled on the ancient triumphal arch and with a large tower, and a theater in the large inner courtyard. The expenditure of such a large palace plus the political machinations of the Piacentine nobility may have caused Ottavio not to complete the building and instead move his court from Piacenza to Parma. The construction of this partly built palace was completed in 1602, under Duke Ranuccio I.
After the death of the last Farnese duke in 1731, the palace fell into disrepair. Restoration began only in the early 20th century and today the Palazzo Farnese at Piacenza houses an important series of museums and exhibitions. The Ducal Chapel (Cappella Ducale or Cappella Grande) was used by the family for its religious rites. It is a hall on a square plan, turned into an octagon by the introduction of four apses at the corners. The sides have the same length as the chapel's height up to the hemispherical dome. The chapel is decorated with lilies from the Farnese coat of arms and Mannerist masks portraying angels. Other symbols referring to the Ducal family such as the unicorn, starfish, dolphins and turtles, appear in the large frieze.
( Piacenza - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Piacenza . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Piacenza - Italy

Heritage & History of Milan # 9: San Cristoforo sul Naviglio
Good morning, my friends, here is another video about Milan. It is the English edition of a video of Andrea Rui (the Italian one can be seen on Andrea’s YouTube channel).
In antiquity, on the bank of the Lombra river, south east of Mediolanum, rose a temple dedicated to Hercules. The mythological hero had a few traits in common with the figure of Saint Christopher. It was therefore no coincidence that the church, which in the XIIth century replaced the temple, was dedicated to the saint.
According to a Christian legend, a giant named Offero became Christian. Following the guidance of a hermit, he used to carry travellers across an impetuous river. One night, he was awoken by the voice of a child, who begged to be carried across the river. The giant began to cross the rushing waters, but the load on his shoulders became heavier and heavier. When he looked up, the giant saw that a golden halo surrounded the boy's head: he was carrying the Christ and the weight of the world on his shoulders. Jesus baptized him with the name of Christopher, meaning the bearer of the Christ. He became the symbol of the christian, who bears witness of his faith with unshakable determination through the storms of life.
This is only the beginning of a the story of a very nice little church in Milano, of course. Enjoy!

If you come here, find a different spot that you can not go out and urge you to come. The garden on the prospective beach was the site of Roman emperor Caesar's summer home. The chair where the emperor sits now is the free traveler's part. The view of the coast from the balcony of the villa is an unforgettable experience. You can take a walk on foot to the coast by using narrow narrow roads between coastal cliffs. I felt unlimited freedom here. I have never seen any of these islands. Asiana or any other place. It is kind to tourists and very nice to visit. The life here is relaxing and quiet. Food in a small town is fresh and delicious

Places to see in ( Verona - Italy ) Palazzo Giardino Giusti
Places to see in ( Verona - Italy ) Palazzo Giardino Giusti
The Giusti Palace and Garden are located in the east of Verona, Italy, a short distance from Piazza Isolo and near the city centre. The palace was built in the sixteenth century. The garden is considered one of the finest examples of an Italian garden. The palace is a 16th-century Mannerist structure with a tower added in 1701.
The Italian Renaissance gardens were planted in 1580 and are regarded as some of the most beautiful Renaissance gardens in Europe, a splendid park of terraces climbing upon the hill. They include a parterre and hedge maze, and expansive vistas of the surrounding landscape from the terrace gardens.
First, only two square parterres right and left hand of the cypress way were designed, and a maze behind the right one, as figured in Nürnbergische Hesperides in 1714. Some years later, four additional flower parterres were laid out left hand, as to be seen at a map in the Verona State Archives. The booklet, Il paradiso de' Fiori by Francesco Pona (1622) informs about the plants used in this time in Giardino Giusti as does also some planting sketches by Pona included in the new edition of this book, Milano 2006.
The actual unifying layout of the garden parterres dates from early 20th century. The maze was reconstructed after 1945. The Giusti family, owner of the palace since the 16th century, was entitled by the Austro-Hungarian Emperor to change its original surname to Giusti del Giardino because of the importance of the gardens.
