Walthamstow - Britain’s Best Walking Neighbourhood nominee
Walthamstow has been nominated for the Ramblers Britain’s Best Walking Neighbourhood Award. Check out the shortlist of ten neighbourhoods and vote at ramblers.org.uk/votewalthamstow
Walthamstow Village is one of four residential areas in Walthamstow Town Centre to receive funding from Transport for London to make the area better for people who want to walk and cycle. Through the mini-Holland initiative conditions for pedestrians have been improved so people feel safe enough to make journeys on foot.
By installing new crossings, widening pavements, planting trees and creating new public spaces pedestrians are being prioritised and walking is now a popular choice.
An unexpected gem in Walthamstow is the Walthamstow Wetlands. This 211 hectare site is teeming with wildlife, offering visitors the chance to get up close to nature.

Walthamstow (an ode to)
We bought a house in Walthamstow about 4 years ago and its certainly been eventful. We thought we'd write a little song about our experiences here. All the incidents did really happen, plus a few more. Don't get us wrong, we're not hatin' on Walthamstow, just having a laugh. This is a homage to anyone trying to get by in London. Keep yer chin up, just think, you could live in Walthamstow!

A walk through Walthamstow Street Market, London, 31st August 2012
This is a walk through the longest street market in Europe, with loads of fruit and vegetable stalls, a good selection of Asian and Caribbean products, fabric, flowers.
There is also a thriving high street with many multinational stores sitting alongside specialist ethnic shops either side of the market stalls.
