Include in your luggage an extra dose of adventure is essential for those who follow toward rustic island of honey. For starters, access to paradise is by boat, from Pontal do Paraná - Trapiche SHIPPING - or Paranagua.
Once on land, get ready to find the streets of sand dotted with simple brick houses where cars are not allowed. The walks are governed by the tide or in the middle of trails, and at night, lanterns are essential - there is no lighting on the island.
Get around the island: Trails lead to perfect backdrop for contemplating nature -
The idyllic setting occupies an area of 27.5 square miles and is only 35 kilometers of beaches.
Most are wild, bordered by the Atlantic and unique - Fortaleza is practically deserted, while Enchanted is the point from the hustle and Praia Grande offers the best waves for surfing.
The class is spread between the two towns - Nova Brasilia and Charmed - which house campsites, lodgings and restaurants homemade seafood.
Speaking of infrastructure, the island has limited access and receive up to five thousand people a day. It is a way to prevent degradation and maintain simplicity.
Time passes slowly in Ilha do Mel, which encourages long walks towards the postcards. Based on Nova Brasilia, one of the most beautiful and famous trails lead to Fort Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, built in the 18th century on the sands of the beach of Fortaleza.
The walk by the sea is one hour (the Fort of Brasilia - 6 km) and worth the effort - coming in the building, climb to the top to enjoy the historic cannons and beautiful panoramic view (take repellent, it is up to the Fortress! ).
Across the island, face the stairway leading to the Lighthouse of the Shells, also with a confusing look.
If you are camping or hostels in Brasilia, stretch the walk - walking or by boat every hour - to the beach out of the enchanted. There, a cave fuels the imagination of the islanders with legends of mermaids. Forró and reggae dictate bars in the pace of Charmed and Nova Brasilia during the weekends and every day in high season.
Walking is the number one sport of Ilha do Mel, because that car does not enter the area. There are good reasons to practice the activity, like visiting the Fortress of Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, which requires about an hour on the trail, from Nova Brasilia. Another option is to tackle the four miles away aboard a bike.
Also fans will play in the surf beaches.
The script of the good peaks, waves are perfect in Praia Grande, on the Lighthouse Parallel with formations that reach three feet tall also includes the Lighthouse Beach and Outside. (Brasilia) and the Mar de Fora in Charmed.

So after going through Morretes, Paranaguá, Pontal Do Sol.. we finally reached Ilha do Mel - we chose to stay away from Nova Brasília in the start and chose the other side to chill and walk around before we headed to the more crowded side with the Jazz Festival going on...
The island itself is one of the most magical ones i have ever been too.. as you enter the island.. it has these path ways of sand with greenry and lots of restaurants and pousadas and interesting houses all around you.
There is no road or car on this island - and its either a walk through the island or a boat around it.
After chilling on the quieter side.. we went to Nova Brasilia.. which was different and had its own charm.. we made friends here and enjoyed the music and our walks around the island.
Hats off this is one of the best small walkable island i have been too.. i have actually been to Grab Island in Malaysia - where there were no cars.. but that island was a floating island.. and less green.. in case of ilha do mel - no much i could compare it with.. really a magical experience.

Navegamos até a praia da encantada, que estava balançando muito. A aventura começou ao colocar o bote na água. Seguimos até a gruta onde quase não conseguimos sair de lá de dentro!
Depois voltamos ao Prosperus e fomos velejando só com a genoa até a parte de trás da Ilha do Mel, que estava calma. Descemos até uma prainha que tinha areia movediça!

Ilha do Mel - Honey Island ( Parana - Brazil )
Ilha do Mel (Honey island) is located 115 km from Curitiba. The island is a State Nature Reserve and most of it follows strong rules regarding buildings and access. There are no roads nor cars and the access is made by regular boats leaving from Pontal do Sul (30 minutes boat-ride) and Paranaguá (90 minutes boat-ride).
The island is quite a paradise in southern Brazil and surely a beloved place to enjoy the beach and the nature of the Atlantic Rain Forest.
VISITING ILHA DO MEL, BRAZIL
One of the first outings we had after arriving in Curitiba was to an island called Ilha do Mel, located about 95km away. We left early in the morning and it took us about 2 hours to drive as the scenic route takes you on a number of windy roads through the mountains.
Upon arrival at the departure area, we were taken in a mini-bus to purchase our tickets and then catch the 30 minute ferry over to the island. Naturally, the ferry takes you to the first part of the island which is called Brasilia (named after the Brazilian capital city). Then, if you want to visit the second part of the island, Encantadas (which I liked the most), you can take a short ride in a water taxi. From there, the ferry can take you back to mainland.
Ilha do Mel is pretty chilled out. You've got rugged beaches, caves, and lot's of greenery. If you want to stay the night, there are plenty of pousadas located all around the island as well as a number of places to eat and drink. There's even a church for hippies!

They tell the Caigangues of Parná that a long time ago, on the beach of the Conchas, to the south of the Ilha do Mel, in the cave of the Encantadas, lived beautiful women who danced and sang at sunrise and at dusk. Their chanting was intoxicating, dormant, and dangerous to any mortal. If a fisherman listened to them, he would surely lose the course of his vessel, going to hit the rocks and sink.
They called them mermaids.

Brasil - Ilha do mel & floripa part one
Santa Catarina is a state in the south region of Brasil. It is the 7th smalles state in total area and the 11th most populous. Economic in the region is good and you might enjoy your time in hotels, restaurant and all other services.
Our destianations there was mainly Florianopolis (nice city / half island with plenty to offer) and Ilha do mel (part of Parana state) where you can enjoy time with almost no noise from civilisation.
