About Judy Carvalhal - Galapagos & Ecuador Travel Expert - Owner of Enchanted Expeditions in Quito
Judy Carvalhal is the Founder and CEO of Enchanted Expeditions, a company that helped to pioneer the modern tourist industry in the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador. With deeply set international roots, Judy brings a unique global perspective to the travel business. She grew up in Guyana and French Guiana, and was educated at Canada’s prestigious Queen’s University before travelling to South America to become one of the first female parks naturalists in Galapagos. Judy’s love for travel and nature is driven by her curiosity about the culture, eco-system and wildlife of the places she visits. This passion fuels her as an entrepreneur, conservationist and an expert in her field. She inspires her guests to explore the world, create amazing travel experiences, have fun and be adventurous. She also ensures that part of their experience includes learning about the importance of conservation. She believes that without tourism, there is no conservation.
One of Judy’s favorite places to explore is Ecuador and Galapagos and she uses her knowledge to curate one of a kind itineraries that take her guests “off the beaten track” and offers them authentic travel experiences. Judy is committed to ensuring that Enchanted Expedition’s guests learn about the history, culture and eco-systems that make this part of South America such an incredible place to visit. Judy knows that when people explore and learn about the exotic and beautiful places of Ecuador and Galapagos, they will appreciate its splendor and understand how vital it is to save and preserve these precious eco-systems that are under such duress.
Judy’s education in ecology and evolutionary biology combined with her experience working as a naturalist guide in the Galapagos Islands, inspired her to champion sustainable tourism before it was recognized by the media and tourism industry. She and her partners, were trailblazers -- conducting research and creating dialogue and policies to ensure that their company championed “responsible tourism” and “environmentally friendly” practices.
After raising four children in Galapagos and Ecuador, Judy is more passionate than ever to ensure that this precious part of the world is protected. Judy’s deep and heartfelt commitment to protect and preserve both the wildlife and culture of Ecuador has built a loyal team that shares these values.
The Enchanted global family of travel brands offer 40 years of experience operating tours to the Galapagos Islands, Mainland Ecuador and beyond and includes:
· Enchanted Expeditions, a destination management company, based in Quito, Ecuador
· Enchanted Adventures based in Victoria, BC (Canadian division),
· Two Yachts in the Galapagos Islands; the Beluga Motor Yacht and the Cachalote Explorer,
· Enchanted Galapagos Lodge on Santa Cruz Island.
Two of Judy’s four children are now part of the Enchanted family business, and they share her passion for travel, nature, adventure, and her belief in conservation and sustainable practices. When Judy isn’t travelling the world to lead tours, and scout out new destinations, she spends her time between her homes and family in Ecuador and Canada. Judy is often asked how she stays grounded while traveling the world for business and pleasure and her answer is always the same, “Home is wherever I am, and where ever my family is.”
What to see on Santa Cruz Island in Galápagos & Galápagos Island hopping tours
If you're considering booking a boat cruise in the Galápagos Islands, you will start & end your trip on the island of Santa Cruz. We recommend planning to stay on Santa Cruz Island for at least a few days, so you can relax after your action packed boat cruise adventure, and explore & enjoy the island before you have to get on a plane to travel home. Or if you have dreamed of visiting Galápagos, but you're not sure if a liveaboard boat cruise is right for you, you can consider Galápagos land based tours, or island hopping tours, where you can visit one island, or several islands to experience the people, culture & wildlife while supporting the local economy.
On Santa Cruz Island for example, you can;
*Visit the world famous Darwin Research Station to learn about this history of the islands, and see giant tortoises (including many baby tortoises!)
*Visit the many beautiful beaches where you can walk, swim, snorkel or kayak to see the incredible wildlife - including the world famous Tortuga Bay Beach
*Go on hikes or ride bicycles to explore the island & its wildlife (some hiking sites require guides)
*Visit local farms & learn about local ecosystems
*Explore the charming town & waterfront harbour - where you can see sea lions, a variety of birds, sharks & golden rays
*See the local fisherman's market, & eat delicious fresh seafood at local restaurants
*Talk to locals to learn more about the people who support the cruise industry, and what it's like to live in the islands
You can also visit San Cristobal, Isabela & Floreana Islands. There is so much to see and do!

The Galapagos Islands Ecuador are outstanding and accessible
A First Class Cruise:
We spent two weeks on a first class cruise in the Galapagos. We visited eleven islands with multiple stops on several islands. It was a trip of a lifetime.
The ‘only place on earth’ birds were great:
Blue-Footed Booby, Red-Footed Booby, Nasca Booby, magnificent frigatebird, penguins, Albatross, flightless cormorant, several species of mockingbirds, Galapagoas Dove, Lava Heron, Great blue heron, Flamingos and ten or more different species of Finches, hawks and more. It was difficult to keep track. The ‘Birders were in heaven.
Spectacular sea life:
As much as enjoyed the birds the sea life was much more to my liking. Playful sea lions, dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, and a hundred different kinds of fish. I liked the puffer fish, Angel, hawkfish, yellowtail surgeonfish, marble ray, white-tip reef shark, Blue-Chin Parrotfish, and a purple and yellow fish I cannot remember. - Ah, King Angelfish and so many more.
Iguanas and Tortoises
On land we had the land and marine iguanas, and of course the tortoises. These are not your everyday tortoises. These are your huge 400 lbs tortoises. We found tortoises on five different islands (Santa Cruz, Fernandina, Floreana, Espanola, and San Cristobal) and they were different species. There are ten remaining species, but I don’t think I saw them all. Many of these species are unique to the Galapagos. It is what makes it unique.

San Cristobal Island Through My Eyes in The Galapagos, Ecuador
San Cristobal Island is my favourite island in the Galapagos. I was here for 2 months living on a reserve and also by the pier.
The Galapagos archipelago is part of Ecuador.
The capital of San Cristobal Island is Puerto Baquerzio Moreno, it's also the sea lion capital of the Galapagos, if not the world.
There are a few beaches that are walking distance from town: Playa Loberia, Playa Mann, Playa de Oro, and Playa Carola.
Darwin's Bay, officially known as Cerro Tijeretas, is about a 30-minute walk from town. It's my favorite place to snorkel. You can swim with sea turtles, marina iguanas and sea lions.
In the northern tip of San Cristobal Island is Punta Pitt, where you can find red and blue-footed boobies nesting. You have to take tour here.
Watching the sunset from Playa Loberia or Playa Mann is always epic.
The Galapagos Islands is the greatest place on Earth. If you ever have a chance, travel here.
Coral I & Coral II
Coral I or Coral II cruises to the Galapagos Islands combine the versatility and intimacy of a yacht with the comfort and space of a small ship. The sister ships cruise the same itinerary side-by-side, offering the chance for larger groups to experience the Galapagos while maintaining a very intimate feel.

Galapagos Islands National Geographic Expeditions | (Ecuador) Our Awesome Planet Vlog (Part I)
In Part 1, Todd and Tuliyani head out to the Galapagos with National Geographic on one of their ships, the Endeavor II. The first few days are filled with activities and getting to know what the Galapagos can offer. They visit the islands of San Cristobal, Española, Floreana, and Santa Cruz.
Welcome to the Galapagos, an archipelago full of unique biota and rare animals. These islands are a part of Ecuador and located about 1000 km outside of South America. Darwin made the Galapagos famous when he stepped foot onto its shores and developed his theory of natural selection, changing the way we understand evolution.
On the Islands of the Galapagos live several fearless animals who have never known any predators. To preserve their innocence, it is important to save the environment that the animals live in and the best way to do so is to educate the world about such a rare location.
Watch as Todd and Tuliyani experience the Galapagos aboard the National Geographic Endeavor II and witness animals behave like they’ve never seen before.
It’s an eventful first few days that leaves them at awe that such a place exists: marine iguanas that blend in with the rocks, sea lion pups that are just as playful as dogs and mockingbirds that steal whatever they can get.

Santa Cruz II by Metropolitan Touring - Galapagos Cruise Ship
Discover the Galapagos Islands in the utmost safety, comfort and exclusivity on our most modern cruise ship yet: the Santa Cruz II. We invite you to join us, the pioneers of Galapagos tours, on an unforgettable experience to traverse the Enchanted Isles.
The Santa Cruz II is a multiple-guided ship. What does that mean? It means that, unlike smaller ships that make up the majority of Galapagos Islands cruise ships, our vessel has multiple guides on board, allowing guests to go on excursions with smaller-sized groups. This offers further divisions based on interests, language and activity level. The Santa Cruz's larger size also allows for a higher level of exclusivity because, according to the Galapagos National Park rules, each site has a limit on the number of people, not the number of vessels.

Galapagos - Expedition on the Isabela II
We embarked for 5 days/4 nights on this beautiful and luxury expedition yacht from Monday 20th to Friday 24th. We had such a blast! Snorkelling, taking strolls on several islands, watching so much wildlife every day, giant tortoises, turtles, iguanas, blue footed boobies, frigates, pelicans, flamingo (1!), sea lions, fur seals, penguins, hundreds of different fishes, sharks (!), several kind of rays, and so many other creatures living on these astonishing islands and the marine reserve around them. The crew and staff members were incredibly friendly. As a short example: can you imagine the captain waiting on the deck for his passengers and greeting them back from their excursion? Very unique, loved every minute on Isabela II.
