Enchanted Forest, Salem, Oregon
A video tour of Enchanted Forest, located near Turner, Oregon, just south of Salem. This 20-acre amusement park was created by Roger Tofte and opened in 1971. The park includes Storybook Lane, a wild west town, an old English village, and features a wooden log flume ride, a bobsled ride, and a haunted house, all in a charming wooded atmosphere.
Filmed for the Oregon Historical Society by James Norman (Jim Norman), May 2015. Shot in 4K with a Gopro 4 and a Zhiyun 3-axis gimbal. Music by Kevin Mcleod.
Ice Mountain Bobsled - Enchanted Forest (including POV)
This is Ice Mountain Bobsled at Enchanted Forest in Oregon. It was originally a kind of alpine slide but was converted into a more traditional roller coaster in 1985. The video features off-ride and rear car on-ride POV footage. Front car POV on separate video. Totally unique attraction.

Big Timber Log Ride front seat on-ride HD POV Enchanted Forest
This unique E&F Miler Industries water coaster - yes it is considered a coaster as well as a log flume - was built in 1996 & is one of the only non-kiddie coasters the company built that is still in operation. There is another log flume/roller coaster built by the company in operation, although it has a completely different design. Do you know what it is & where it is located?

Urban Exploring The Enchanted Forest Abandoned Amusement Park Ruins 5/27/2017
This is a video I put together urban exploring the ruins of The Enchanted Forest Amusement Park in Ellicott City, Maryland. When I was a child I went to the park when it was open. It opened in 1955 and closed in 1994. Some buildings and statues were eventually moved to a newer location at Clark's Elioak Farm a few miles down the road. Remember everyone! Please seek permission to visit this property. I have found out this area is private property and a No Trespassing area.
The Enchanted Forest officially opened on August 15, 1955, following a preview party the afternoon before — one month after Disneyland Park's opening. Appealing mostly to families with small children, the park had a nursery rhyme theme. The park featured fairy tale buildings and characters, but no mechanical rides originally. Track rides were added later, including the Alice in Wonderland ride with teacup-shaped cars, a Cinderella's castle ride with mice for the cars, the Little Toot boat that took children to Mount Vesuvius for giant slides, and the Jungleland Safari which was driven by open Land Rover-type vehicles. Children's birthday parties were often held in the picnic areas among the attractions; many local teenagers worked as ticket-takers at the park. Unlike many other attractions of the time, the Enchanted Forest was integrated from the day it opened.
Admission cost one dollar for adults and fifty cents for children. The park expanded from 20 acres to 52 acres. At its peak, the Enchanted Forest welcomed 300,000 children per summer season. After its original owners, the Harrison family, sold the park for $4.5 million to JHP Development in 1988, the park closed for the first time in 1989. After turning more than half the land (primarily the parking lots) into the Safeway-anchored Enchanted Forest Shopping Center in 1992, JHP Development reopened the park for the 1994 summer season, predominantly for children's birthday parties.
The park was permanently shuttered from 1995 to 2005, when active preservation began. Much of the theme park sat undisturbed yet neglected behind a chain-link fence. On June 30, 1998, the post office opened the Enchanted Forest branch onsite. In 1999, the Friends of the Enchanted Forest was formed with the goal of reopening the park and then in 2003 the Enchanted Forest Preservation Society was formed with the long-term goal of reviving the Enchanted Forest. Their work focused on preventing the artifacts from being lost forever.
The owner of the land, Kimco Realty Group, agreed in 2004 to allow most of the fairy tale structures and figures to be moved to nearby Clark's Elioak Farm for display and preservation. Moving and restoration began in 2005. Contributions were still being welcomed in 2011, although many of the exhibits had been restored and returned to service at the farm. In 2013, the Howard County Department of Planning and Zoning approved Kimco to build a bank next to the castle site and wetlands by rerouting the stream that ran around the base. In 2015, Martha Clark announced the concrete block Castle would be relocated to Elioak, while the Cinderella Castle and the Gingerbread House would be demolished.

Roger Tofte began construction on Enchanted Forest in 1964 while working for the Oregon State Highway. Tofte used the money he made from repairing watches in his spare time to finance the park. As I fixed a watch, I would go down and buy a bag of cement, Tofte says.
It was kind of a hobby at first, so it took a lot of the pressure off, Tofte says. The theme park started out as a mom and pop business with Tofte's wife, Mavis Bjorke, handling the business side of it while Tofte worked on the art and construction. It has progressed into a family business now; their four children are still involved with the park and Tofte says that his grandkids work there as well. They're glad to be part of it, Tofte says.
History of Oregon Amusement Parks
Oregon had the largest amusement park in the nation and still has one of the longest operating parks in the nation. This fast paced and entertaining film covers information on amusement rides from the Oregon State Fair, Jantzen Beach, Oaks Amusement Park, Pixieland, Enchanted Forest and more.
Haunted House - Enchanted Forest, Oregon (HD)
Enchanted Forest is a unique and rather quirky theme park in Turner, Oregon. It pretends to be a park for children, but the themed rides and attractions are actually quite sinister and grown-up in nature. Take a walk through their Haunted House.

[UPDATE! January 12th, 2013: I put another $5 in the tunnel, whoever took the last one didn't email me...grrr]
[UPDATE! December 8th, 2012: I put another $5 in the tunnel, but I put this one waaay in the back this time. FYI, the homeless man still lives in the first tunnel...do not disturb him!]
[UPDATE! September 29th, 2012: I was filming the moon and stars from 2:00am - 5:30am. At exactly 3:33am all the coyotes starting howling, the most horrible noise you ever want to hear in the forest when you're alone. Lesson learned: never go alone!]
[UPDATE! July 7th, 2012: As we walked by McNally Tunnel again, the man was still living inside. Please be careful everyone when crossing the tunnel. This time, we didn't say anything to the man and he didn't say anything to us, so just LEAVE HIM ALONE!]
[UPDATE! June 30th, 2012: As we came up to the McNally Tunnel (5:08) my friend looked inside and saw a man living in there. My friend said, There's a hobo in the tunnel, he repeated it again, then we heard a loud bellow of a man's voice yell I'm not a hobo!. We ran as fast as we could and crossed the river, the man came out of the cave and yelled Say that to my face you little punk!. Be very careful when you come across this tunnel and please, don't call him a hobo.]
[UPDATE! April 7th, 2012: I put another $5 in the tunnel, happy hunting!]
[UPDATE! March 12th, 2012: The treasure has been found! =) Late night Temple City High School adventurers Rudy, Nasser, Joseph, Angel, Kim and Angela made the journey into the tunnel and came out winners. Congratulations!]
[UPDATE! March 3rd, 2012: The treasure was no where to be found, it may have washed away = so I put another treasure, this time I wedged it between some rocks, however the plastic bag is still visible =) happy hunting!]

A Day At The Enchanted Forest, Jul 9, 2016
My small snapchat story of visting the Enchanted Forest (
It's a truly unique theme park, located just south of Salem Oregon along I5.
Practically hand built by the Tofte family, still owned and run by them. I highly recommend visiting it. Although, not in winter since it's closed then.
The Ice Mountain roller coaster is small, but it is awesome. The interactive Challenge of Mordor ride is one of the most amazing rides I've been on. All the different sections (Fantasy, Western, Haunted, Medieval) are adorable. Especially the tunnels, though some parts can be a tight squeeze since they are built for kids. Two fun slides also.
So if you are in the area, do go. :)

Saving the Enchanted Forest
When I was a child I used to go to The Enchanted Forest, which was a a theme park full of characters based on various nursery rhymes and fairy tales. The movie begins with my childhood recollection of that theme park then it segues into what happened after it closed in the 1990's, when the former parking lot was turned into what is now the Enchanted Forest Shopping Center while the attractions were allowed to rot.
But then things turned around when a local farm known as Clark's Elioak Farm was allowed to remove the rotting attractions and they were all restored to its original state. I have footage of what the attractions look like now along with additional footage of the 60th anniversary of the day that the Enchanted Forest opened its doors for the first time. I also shot some more footage when I returned to Clark's Elioak Farm after it introduced dinosaurs to the mix of nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and farm animals.
This film was originally shown at Artomatic 2015 in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Is it really enchanted or is it all hype?
