1918 Lee Enfield No. 1 Mk III 303 British
This is my Lee Enfield made by BSA.
You'll probably notice my rear hand guard popping up. When I bought this rifle it was in a plastic crap-tastic stock. I'm missing a few parts including the clip on the guard.
Also, my safety some times pops back a little when the rifle fires. It's completely safe. It just adds a step to cycling sometimes.

Parker Hale 1853 ENFIELD 3 band Arrives, Made in the UK
Parker Hale 1853 ENFIELD 3 band Arrives, Made in the UK.
Although this is a modern day reproduction 1853 Enfield 3-band rifled-musket, it's one of the better reproductions. With a serial number of 64XX, this reproduction 1853 Enfield 3-band rifled-musket was made in the 1980's and 100% United Kingdom manufacture , made by Parker Hale. This Parker Hale 1853 Enfield 3-band rifled-musket, despite being 30 years old is in a pristine, unfired states without any blemishes, scratches or rust. It came in the original box and with the original owner's manual.
This rifle, like the originals (upon which it was cloned by Parker Hale), has the progressive depth rifling and 1:48 twist.
Other rifles may have the 1:48 twist, but not the progressive depth rifling.
The rifling is deeper at the breech, then chokes down as it nears the muzzle. A hollow-based Minie' bullet, upon firing, flares its skirt out to engage the rifling. As the bullet moves down the bore, it encounters progressively tighter rifling to grip the bullet firmly.
This progressive depth rifling, heavy barrel and relatively fast twist (the longer 1853 Enfield has 1:72 twist) accounts for the 1858's accuracy, especially at long range.
Today, British shooters compete with Enfields out to 600-800 yards, shooting at targets 6X8 feet. Most winners will have placed their shots within an 18-24-inch circle at these ranges.

C&Arsenal has a fantastic series on the SMLE and long Lee-Enfield Rifles. These guns saw just as many fields of combat as the Mauser series of rifles. The british used these for more than half a century. Let us know what you think in the comments below!

FOR SALE: 1916 Lee Enfield No 1 Mark iii BSA 303 British - Field Test
This is a demo shooting the old BSA 303 British No. 1 Mrk iii. I only shot 8 rounds at 50 yards with open sights, having not sighted in the rifle. This is a very fun rifle to shoot, and I highly recommend it to anyone on a budget.
Lee Enfield: full disassembly & assembly
The Lee–Enfield is a bolt-action, magazine-fed, repeating rifle that served as the main firearm used by the military forces of the British Empire and Commonwealth during the first half of the 20th century. It was the British Army's standard rifle from its official adoption in 1895 until 1957. It is often referred to as the SMLE, which is short for the common Short Magazine Lee-Enfield variant.
A redesign of the Lee–Metford (adopted by the British Army in 1888), the Lee–Enfield superseded the earlier Martini–Henry, Martini–Enfield, and Lee–Metford rifles. It featured a ten-round box magazine which was loaded with the .303 British cartridge manually from the top, either one round at a time or by means of five-round chargers. The Lee–Enfield was the standard issue weapon to rifle companies of the British Army and other Commonwealth nations in both the First and Second World Wars (these Commonwealth nations included Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India and South Africa, among others). Although officially replaced in the UK with the L1A1 SLR in 1957, it remained in widespread British service until the early/mid-1960s and the 7.62 mm L42 sniper variant remained in service until the 1990s. As a standard-issue infantry rifle, it is still found in service in the armed forces of some Commonwealth nations, notably with the Bangladesh Police, which makes it the second longest-serving military bolt-action rifle still in official service, after the Mosin–Nagant. The Canadian Rangers unit still use Enfield rifles, with plans to replace the weapons sometime in 2017–2018 with the new Sako-designed Colt C-19. Total production of all Lee–Enfields is estimated at over 17 million rifles.
