Ironbridge Gorge Museums
Ironbridge is a village on the River Severn, at the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge, in Shropshire, England.
The area around Ironbridge is described by those promoting it as a tourist destination as the Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. This description is based on the idea that Abraham Darby perfected the technique of smelting iron with coke, in Coalbrookdale, allowing much cheaper production of iron. However, the industrial revolution did not begin in one place, but in many.
In 1986 Ironbridge became part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site (which covers the wider Ironbridge Gorge area) and has become a major tourist attraction within Shropshire.

Ironbridge Gorge (UNESCO/NHK)
Ironbridge is known throughout the world as the symbol of the Industrial Revolution. Blists Hill Victorian Town, Ironbridge
The Ironbridge Gorge Museums in Shropshire, hosts Blists Hill Victorian Town as one of it's main attractions.
This delightful recreation of a 1900's town falls into the same 'Living Museum' genre as you will find in 'The Black Country Living Museum' in the West Midlands and 'Beamish Living Museum' in County Durham.
These 'Living' museums provide not only accurate recreation of streets, shops, industry etc but also 'In character' guides dressed in their period clothes and uniforms who will welcome you into their domain and happily discuss and demonstrate the skills of our past;
A recommended family day out
