Surfing in Bavaria? English Garden in Munich
Hello Hoppers! As odd as it may sound, there is surfing in Bavaria, in the English Garden in Munich, along with many other activities. I took a quick stroll through the park, which is one of the world's largest, and found a whole bunch of people surfing in the Eisbach River. It was soooo cool! Hope you like it. Thanks Eisbach River Surfers for showing us how it's done.

5 Amazing Places At The ENGLISH GARDEN / ENGLISCHER GARTEN In MUNICH!
If you are visiting Munich, don't forget to visit these 5 amazing places at the English Gardens! Relaxing, interesting as well as cultural!
Introduction:
Hey everybody and welcome back to another episode of Triple P with me Surya Sridhar. Guys its a beautiful Sunday out here. Very warm, bustling and lots of people out, and I’ve decided to visit one of the biggest and most interesting parks in all of Europe - the Englischer Garten. So let’s get started!
Number 1: Eisbach Surfing
Who said that you have to go to the beach to surf? Head on over to the Eisbach where you can witness skilled German surfers riding half-meter artificial waves in the middle of this large city! This local oddity started in the 1970’s and ever since has lead to yearly surfing competitions. Munich has also been named the river surfing capital of the world as its the birthplace of this unusual sport!
Number 2: Chinese Tower & Beer Garden
The Chinesicher Turm is a pagoda-style, all-wooden tower with five storeys, and was built in the 1970’s. It is especially important for 3 reasons: 1. It hosts the Kocherlball that takes place in July - a fancy early morning dance to commemorate the servants and cooks from the 19th century. 2. It is a huge attraction for Christmas as is beautifully lit up and 3. Every weekend it hosts brass-band performers on the first floor who play traditional music for the crowds enjoying the most famous beer garden. It accommodates 7000 people and offers delicious traditional foods and drinks such as grilled fish and chicken, roasted pork knuckles, pretzel, sausages, baked goods, Hofbräu Beer and so forth.
Number 3: Dancing at the Temple of Diana
Right in the centre of this beautiful Hofgarten premise, lies the beautiful Temple of Diana. The pavilion was designed in 1615 and includes eight arches leading to footpaths that serves to divide the garden into eight individual sections. Surprisingly it has become the meeting point of dancers and musicians during the warm summer nights. Everyone is invited and guess what - it is free! If you are interested in Salsa then come on Wednesday and Sundays, for Tango on Fridays and Swing on Sundays!
Number 4: Kleinhesseloher Lake
For the next stop, you can either reach this beautiful lake by foot or you can take the fun manual rickshaw there. Spend half an hour boating around by yourself or with a group, soaking up the crystal clear waters and the warm sunshine. You may be enticed to jump into the lake to swim around for a while, or if that isn't your cup of tea, perhaps you may want to buy a packet of bread to feed the ducks and swans that happily interact with the visitors.
Number 5: Schönfeldwiese Area
After enjoying the lake, you may want to take a horse drawn carriage ride to this area to enjoy the greenery. Buy yourself a cold ice-cream and lie down in the shade, read a book, have a picnic or if you are feeling more energized instead, play a game of frisbee or football. This place is also perfect for kids who can enjoy not only the playground, but also a fun musical carousel ride!
Bikinis and Beers in English Garden Germany!!!
Lazy Summer in Munich is the best! All I did was chill, go to the English Garden which is considered as their beach already because they don't have it in Munich and what's cool is that it's right in the center of the city where you can enjoy a good beer, do some tanning and meet new people!

The #English #Garden is a large public park in the centre of #Munich, Bavaria, stretching from the city centre to the northeastern city limits. It was created in 1789 by Sir Benjamin Thompson (1753–1814), later Count Rumford (Reichsgraf von Rumford), for Prince Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria. Thompson's successors, Reinhard von Werneck (1757–1842) and Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell (1750–1823), advisers on the project from its beginning, both extended and improved the park.
With an area of 3.7 km2 (1.4 sq mi) (370 ha or 910 acres), the Englischer Garten is one of world's largest urban public parks. The name refers to its English garden form of informal landscape, a style popular in England from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century and particularly associated with Capability Brown.

In one of the artificial streams flowing through the English Garden, Munich, there is a standing wave produced by the water pumping mechanism. Surfers line up along the bank taking turns entering the water with their boards. After a minute or so, successful surfers will voluntarily drop out returning to the end of the line allowing the next person in line an opportunity.

English Garden in Munich, Germany
The Englischer Garten is a large public park in the centre of Munich, Bavaria, stretching from the city centre to the northeastern city limits. It was created in 1789 by Sir Benjamin Thompson, later Count Rumford, for Prince Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria. Thompson's successors, Reinhard von Werneck and Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell, advisers on the project from its beginning, both extended and improved the park.

Germany is one of the greenest countries on the European continent thanks to its mild climate with moderate rainfall. Even in urban areas, Germans try to preserve natural landscapes, and parks are a good example of this approach. In any German city, large or small, there are lovely parks with green lawns and mirror ponds. The most famous of the German parks is Munich’s Englischer Garten (English Garden), it is well-known far beyond Munich and Germany. The word English in the park’s name refers to the style of park design and layout. In most European parks, the French style dominates; this style is characterized by a geometrically regular layout with neat flower beds and alleys. On the other hand, the English park style makes the most of natural landscapes. Englischer Garten in Munich is of the latter type, which reflects in its name.
Walk in the Garden
Living in Munich, we often come to the park, just for a stroll to relax in nature close to the city center. Sometimes we also stop for beer in one of the Biergartens (beer gardens) under the canopy of chestnut trees. I will try to describe a generalized walk through the park drawn from many visits. We begin our walk from the Haus der Kunst (House of the Arts). The nearest U-Bahn stations are Lehel or Odeonsplatz, depending on where you are coming from. When facing the somewhat gloomy building of the Haus der Kunst, the entrance to the park is to the right, though it is not marked in any way. There is always a small crowd of people here watching a very interesting attraction. The Eisbach stream rapids form a so-called standing wave at this location, which is suitable for surfing. Surfers from around the world like this place, and every day from dawn to dusk they show their skills and give free performances to numerous spectators. We have seen this spectacle many times, and yet again and again admire this unusual show. Having enjoyed this entertainment for a little, let us go further into the park. It is better to walk along a small river, rather a creek or stream, which is called Schwabinger Bach. It flows through the entire park to its northern part. There are lovely green meadows on the river banks, where Munich residents like to have picnics and grills (barbeque). Many simply relax and sunbathe if the weather complies. One can do it in a nudist area, for example, on the Schönfeldwiese meadow on the west bank of the stream. Anyone interested can stay here; as for the rest of you, let’s continue on to more park’s attractions.
Monopteros, Chinese Pagoda and Biergartens
We are now coming to a small green hill to the right from the stream. On the hilltop there is a round colonnade structure which looks like a miniature antique temple or simply an exquisite gazebo. Its architecture is clearly of the Greek style. This is the Monopteros rotunda, built almost two hundred years ago. In addition to the columns it has a distinctive dome decorated inside with colorful frescos. It is worth going inside to admire these murals. This pretty structure looks very inviting on the background of green meadows and hills, so it seems suitable to shoot a couple of photos here.
Another five minutes’ walk deeper into the park from the Monopteros, and a pastoral idyll of peace and birdsongs is replaced by Bavarian folk music and the roar of thousands of voices. We are approaching the main attraction of Englischer Garten, namely, Chinese Pagoda and a huge biergarten around it. The wooden structure, which is only stylized as a pagoda, is more than two hundred years old. It burnt during World War II and was later rebuilt.
