RailFan Exchange: Parkville, Missouri -- Thu 22 Feb 07
I and my wife took our dog, Tima for a walk in English Landing Park in Parkville Missouri.
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks are on one side of the park, and the Missouri River is on the other. Across the river is the state of Kansas. Parkville is a very pretty town with Park University on the hill overlooking the town and park.
In one shot of a southbound coal train, you see the grand old victorian administration building of Park University lording over the scenery. The weather is starting to switch from winter to spring, and gorgeous days are ahead. The trains in this video are heading south towards the city, which is about 15 minutes away by car. They are heading into the railyard which is north of downtown across the river. One of the great advantages of Parkville is that it has a small town feel, yet is very close to downtown Kansas City. Prices for homes are up there as many people love to live in a quaint place like this that can get them out of the city without actually taking them on a long commute. I put in the beginning and end of the video timelapses of my day before and after we took our doggie for a walk.
