Malta is an archipelago in the central Mediterranean (in its eastern basin), some 80 km (50 mi) south of the Italian island of Sicily across the Malta Channel. Only the three largest islands – Malta (Malta), Gozo (Għawdex) and Comino (Kemmuna) – are inhabited. The smaller islands (see below) are uninhabited. The islands of the archipelago lie on the Malta plateau, a shallow shelf formed from the high points of a land bridge between Sicily and North Africa that became isolated as sea levels rose after the last Ice Age.[141] The archipelago is therefore situated in the zone between the Eurasian and African tectonic plates.[142][143] Malta was considered an island of North Africa for centuries.[144]
Numerous bays along the indented coastline of the islands provide good harbours. The landscape consists of low hills with terraced fields. The highest point in Malta is Ta' Dmejrek, at 253 m (830 ft), near Dingli. Although there are some small rivers at times of high rainfall, there are no permanent rivers or lakes on Malta. However, some watercourses have fresh water running all year round at Baħrija near Ras ir-Raħeb, at l-Imtaħleb and San Martin, and at Lunzjata Valley in Gozo.
Phytogeographically, Malta belongs to the Liguro-Tyrrhenian province of the Mediterranean Region within the Boreal Kingdom. According to the WWF, the territory of Malta belongs to the ecoregion of Mediterranean Forests, Woodlands and Scrub.[145]

My Choice - Joe Grech: Sahha Malta (Goodbye Malta) In HD Format 16:9
Sahha Malta in 16:9 high definition format.
Sahha Malta - a beautiful song by Malta's famous singer, Joe Borg. The singer bids goodbye to Malta telling her he's leaving with tears in his eyes and how he would love to take with him the beautiful sea and sun and stating he'd love to return to enjoy her beauty.
Most photos of Malta were taken by Choy Hong (Jasmine) Grech.
Joe Grech, a Maltese singer, was born in Cospicua, Malta on 9 February 1934. He married Josephine née' Buttigieg on 24 September 1961. They have a daughter Marcelle, also a versatile singer. At a very early stage in his life, Joe started to play the trumpet with the Zejtun Band Club. His real love was however singing.
He was the first singer to win the first Malta Song Festival in 1960, a festival which was organized by the Zghazagh Haddiema Nsara, the local section of the Young Christian Workers. The festival was held at the Radio City Opera House in Hamrun, Malta. Ten songs were presented in the semi final of Thursday 3 November and another ten songs on the semi-final of Friday 4 November. Out of these twenty songs, ten made it to the final night of Saturday 5 November 1960. The Winning Song was Joe Grech's own composition Vola Uccellino.
In 1965 the Impresa Valente chose Joe Grech to represent Malta in the Italian Festival of Martina Franca. Another Maltese singer, Tony Agius, also participated in this festival. In those days, it was very rare for a Maltese singer to participate in an Italian festival, let alone win a trophy as the Best Foreign Singer of this Italian festival. The then Italian High Commissioner of Italy for Malta, Signor Antonio Spada, presented a trophy to Joe Grech.
In 1967 Joe, managed to establish himself as one of Malta's most popular pop singers. His 45 rpm entitled Il- Kaccatur, The Hunter, started selling a lot.
In the early seventies, Joe successfully toured the London, Scottish and Irish circuits. He also had many successful tours in Canada, America, Italy and Australia. It was during one of these tours in the early seventies that Joe Grech, under the management of Joe Stafrace, recorded a Long Playing Album Sahha Malta With Joe Grech. The orchestra on this LP was composed mostly of members of the Sydney Opera House orchestra, under the direction of Joe Paparone. Joe performed at the Royal Ballroom of Melbourne, and on the 12 March 1977, Joe gave a spectacular show at the Sydney Opera House.

Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane Valletta Malta Aviation museum spitfire
We were in Valetta, Malta. This was a cruise stop, on the MSC Meraviglia - a beautiful ship! Today, we hired a taxi to bring us around. We found this little gem of a museum, where you could go up close and personal with two of the most famous World War II aircraft that defended the British skies during the Battle of Britain. They are the Spitfire and the Hawker Hurricane. Very awesome!!
We sail on the MSC Meraviglia, the flagship of the MSC fleet! When launched in July 2017, the MSC Merviglia (at 172,000 GT) was the fourth largest cruise ship in the world, only behind the 3 Oasis-class vessels owned by Royal Caribbean). Meraviglia, in Italain, connotes a feeling of wonder, astonishment and amazement. The ship has Galleria Meraviglia, a 300ft central promenande filled with boutiques, restaurants, and also used for entertainment. It comes with a 5,200 sq feet LED dome - an atmospheric digital sky that animates the Galleria Meraviglia with inspiring sunrises, sunsets, mosiacs, shows and starry night skies. On this 7N cruise out of Genoa, we sailed in the Yacht Club Royal Suite 15008. A truly luxurious experience! #MSCMeraviglia

In 1989, Mediterranean Shipping Company bought Flotta Lauro and renamed it StarLauro Cruises.[2] In 1994, the Achille Laurocaught fire and sank. In 1995, the company name was changed to MSC Cruises.[2]

In 2015, MSC Cruises had four new ships on order from STX France and Fincantieri, with options for three more. The first two ships are due to be delivered in May 2017 (MSC Meraviglia) and November 2017 (MSC Seaside). There are four more diesel-powered ships on order for delivery in 2020s.[citation needed]
