Exploring Unawatuna I Surfing In Sri Lanka I Solo Backpacking in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is beautiful island country and is perfect for solo backpacking. I went on backpacking trip across Sri Lanka in the month of March 2019. I explored Sri Lanka quite a bit, covered a pretty large ground from Colombo to Galle to Ella and going all the way upto Sigiriya, in this series I will be sharing everything with you.
This is Part 3 of Exploring Sri Lanka Series and in this episode we are exploring Unawatuna.
Unawatuna is famous for beaches and people come here particularly for learning surfing. Other water sports such as scuba diving, snorkelling etc are also popular and cheap here.
Watch PART 1 at:
Watch Part 2 at
Some Basic information
How many days you need to explore Unawatuna?
1 to 2 days
Accommodation
I stayed at the Hideaway Hostel in Unawatuna and I loved it, it is a simple place and very good one to meet new people and the people there are super helpful, they even gave us free rides to beaches and bus stop and of course the pancakes were too good.
Budget
If you are budget traveller you can explore Unawatuna within 3500 INR or 40$ a day including accommodation, food, activities and transportation.
Things you must carry with you
1. Cosmetics and sunscreen
Things are mostly imported in Sri Lanka and therefore are pretty expensive there. It is better to take them with you from your home country.
2. Tampons/Menstrual Cups
3. Raincoat
I hope you enjoy the video

SRI LANKA'S BEAUTIFUL BEACHES ft the world's BIGGEST animal! Sri Lanka Travel Vlog
Hey everyone, thank you for watching!
In this weeks vlog we continued our trip around the pristine beaches of Sri Lanka, exploring 4 of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful beaches: Mirissa, Unawatuna, Jungle beach and Mihiripenna; with golden white sands and perfectly blue water all of these beaches are a must see on the Sri Lankan south coast. We were also lucky enough to see the WORLD’S BIGGEST ANIMAL in Mirissa - seeing the Blue Whale in all its glory was a breathtaking moment and one that should definitely not be missed! For good measure we even managed to cram in some culture, exploring the ruins of Galle fort before becoming completely relaxed experiencing a traditional Sri Lankan Ayurvedic massage.
Thank you all for watching we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Please like, share, comment and hit the subscribe button!

Can't believe this is Sri Lanka | Unawatuna & Galle
Our Sri Lanka Tour has come to an end as we see some of the best beaches in the country down in Unawatuna beach.
In the morning we just had to go out and swim in the warm Indian Ocean as we headed out on a snorkel trip to Jungle Beach.
Afterwards we went into the main town to try out some local Sri Lanka fusion food at Skinny Toms deli where we tried shakshuka hoppers and eggs benedict hoppers.
In the afternoon we headed to Galle to the see the famous lighthouse of Sri Lanka before making our way back to Colombo to end our time in this INCREDIBLE country!
Seriously guys...add Sri Lanka to the bucket list!

10 Best Places to Visit in Sri Lanka - Travel Video
Sri Lanka may be a small island in the Indian Ocean but that’s the only thing small about it. The country, formerly known as Ceylon, boasts an ancient civilization, golden sandy beaches with their swaying coconut palms, mountains, and tea plantations. While visiting the island, you’ll see colonial architecture from the days when the Portuguese, Dutch and English ruled. You’ll also see lots of elephants, some of which participate in local festivals and, if you’re lucky, perhaps a leopard or two at a wildlife sanctuary. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Sri Lanka:

We Found Paradise in Mirissa, Sri Lanka⎮Cinematic Travel Vlog
hi beautiful friends! In today's vlog, I continue my adventure through Sri Lanka from the inland, to the coastal towns of Hikkaduwa, Mirissa and Galle. We got to spend some time at the beach, witness incredible and breathtaking sunsets, walk through a UNESCO Heritage Site, go on a bike ride through a local village, visit a school, play with children, visit the Dog Care Clinic, and so much more. It feels surreal that it all happened in a few days, and I'm so grateful for these experiences. Aside from catching a viral infection, it didn't take away from the unforgettable memories. I hope this video inspires you to visit Sri Lanka, and do things that bring you lots of JOY. You are worthy. Sending lots of love xxx

10 Best Beaches in Sri Lanka - East/South/West Coast (Tropical Escape #2)
In this episode I show you the best beaches in Sri Lanka from the west coast over the south coast to the lesser know east coast - along the way we sample some street food and checkout the wildlife.

Sri Lanka is a year-round holiday destination with two monsoon seasons and is home to some incredible beaches on both sides of the island. If you want to go to the south and west coast of Sri Lanka the best time to visit is from December to April. For the east coast the time between April and August is best.
We start our journey in Beruwala and Bentota, this very long sand beach is without any doubt one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka and only a 2h drive from the capital. The next stops are the beaches of Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna close to Galle.
Further down south you can find Mirissa, a relaxed little town which is a popular starting point for whale watching, too. Afterwards it’s time to spot some wildlife in the Yala National Park which has also a beach...but swimming is not allowed, so we’ll go for a leopard safari instead.
The east coast of Sri Lanka is still fairly unknown, therefore I decided to show you this part of the island more in-depth starting with Arugam Bay, a popular surf spot. Pasikudah is a longer drive to the north which is totally worth it - the locals even state it is the most beautiful beach in Sri Lanka!
Our last stop is Trincomalee in the north east of the country with its wide beaches of Uppuveli and Nilaveli. A short boat ride off the main land you should visit Pigeon island which has not only a beautiful beach but an incredible maritime life…so make sure to bring some snorkeling gear!
This part of the trip was executed within 2weeks by using buses, trains, cars and a domestic flight (Trincomalee-Colombo) - following I list all the places I visited & Things to do on the coast of Sri Lanka:
- Beruwala
- Bentota
- Hikkaduwa
- Unawatuna
- Mirissa
- Yala & Yala National Park
- Arugam Bay
- Batticaloa & Kattankudy
- Kumana National Park
- Kudumbigala sanctuary
- Pasikuda
- Trincomalee
- Uppuveli
- Nilaveli
- Pigeon Island

VEGAN SRI LANKA ????Elephant Sanctuary | Unawatuna
Today we're exploring #srilanka !
___
Sri Lanka is a beautiful country. Filled with kind and helpful people, diversity for days, family values that run deep, and a penchant for spice, you’d be hard pressed to find a more well-rounded, friendly nation than Sri Lanka. However, up until fairly recently, it was a far away place I knew next to nothing about.
So, how did I end up visiting this little island paradise?
????How I Ended Up in Sri Lanka
A little back story…
Over six months ago I got an email from a friend of mine, Aurelia D’Andrea, of Vegan Epicure Travel, asking if I wanted to be her co-host for a vegan women’s retreat in Sri Lanka. I was over the moon excited. “Yes!” was my exuberant reply, and the planning began.
Sadly, as most of you know, there were some terrible attacks that happened in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in April of this year… which resulted in a tough decision: the retreat had to be cancelled. Understandably so, people were reticent. (But just to assuage any fears you may have, the U.S. government calls Sri Lanka a “Level Two Travel Advisory,” which says tourists should “exercise caution” but keep in mind that France, Mexico, and the United Kingdom, are also “Level Two Travel Advisory.”)
Anyway, Aurelia and I decided to still meet up in Sri Lanka as planned, retreat or not, and do some location scouting and visiting! Aurelia is an ol’ pro when it comes to Sri Lanka (and travel in general) and she showed Arnold and me the ropes, introduced us to lovely people, and took us on adventures! Aurelia may be one of the most travel-savvy people I know, and we were so lucky to have her insight and ideas for our future travel destination as well.
????Eating Vegan in Sri Lanka #vegansrilanka
Fortunately, not only is Sri Lankan food easily veganized, but also the people are so kind and accommodating that we had no problems getting a good vegan meal. In all of my travels, I’ve found that the telltale sign that you’re going to successfully get vegan food is a willing waiter. (Because, let’s be honest, vegan food is everywhere… just hold the animal products.)
You’ll get a glimpse into the yummy dishes that we had in today’s video below. You’ll notice that we ate traditional Sri Lankan food, but also found more westerns delights like smoothie bowls and other exotic dishes like pad thai.
????Animals in Sri Lanka #elephantsanctuary
One of the wonderful parts of Sri Lanka is the wildlife. We saw a host of animals in their natural habitats, from chipmunks to peacocks, elephants and even a crocodile!
This video is a bit long because we packed in so many adventures. I hope you enjoy. If you do, it always means the world to me when you leave a comment telling me so in the comments below. ????
