Enoshima: Black Ice Cream & Japanese Caves - Tokyo Day Trip
A day trip from Tokyo to Enoshima, where I try crazy Japanese ice cream flavours, see a dragon and explore caves!
Enoshima is a seaside area about an hour from Tokyo by train, so it's an easy day trip if you're visiting Tokyo. It's next to Kamakura, which has lots of Japanese temples and shrines, and you can visit both in one day.
See my convenience store breakfast, and explore Enoshima Island: the Sea Candle, the escalator, crazy Japanese ice cream flavours (the one I tried was black!), shrines and temples, spotting hawks and Enoshima Iwaya Cave - where I meet a dragon!
SUBSCRIBE for more Tokyo videos - next we'll be going to Kamakura and visiting an amazing bamboo forest!

Enoshima Beach (16 July 2017) Fujisawa, Kanagawa japan
Enoshima is a small island off the Shōnan coast of Japan’s Kanagawa Prefecture. It’s known for the Enoshima Shrine, with statues honoring Benzaiten, the Buddhist goddess. It's also home to the Enospa hot springs and the 19th-century, English-style Samuel Cocking Garden with its Sea Candle lighthouse. The Iwaya Caves feature tidal pools and Buddhist statues. Popular mainland beaches overlook the island.
Story of the Enoshima Love Bell - Fujisawa, Japan
In Enoshima Island has a Love Bell with a legend involving Benten and the dragon, couples ring the bell together and write their names on locks that they leave attached to the fence, similar to the wooden prayer plates (ema) left at shrines.

Enoshima Island Tour | A Taste of Japan #7
A Taste of Japan returns with a full Enoshima Island tour! When my sister was visiting us in 2015, we went to Enoshima Island, and explored much of the island. We visited Enoshima Shrine, Enoshima Daishi, Enoshima Sea Candle, and the Iwaya Caves. The shopping area was wonderful, but busy. And the view was incredible. Enoshima is located on the southern part of Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture in Japan. It's next to the busiest beach in Japan, Enoshima Beach. The island is famous for its dried, flattened octopus, as well as the many cats that live on the island.

Day trip to Enoshima Island, Kanagawa, Japan - 4K, A&J Japan Travel
Enoshima Island (江の島) is an island in Japan, located on Sagami Bay just off the coast of Kanagawa (神奈川県) prefecture. It is a great and cheap day trip from Tokyo (if you take the right trains!). Enoshima boasts sunny beaches, rugged coastlines, history, stunning views, hiking, and even caves!
Sites we visited include:
Shonan Beach
Benten Shrine
Enoshima Shrine
Samuel Cocking Garden
Enoshima Sea Candle
Love Bell (Koibito no Oka)
Iwaya Caves
Southern Coast of Enoshima Island
Shonan Beach is a great place to relax or get involved in some water sports. Not a great place for picnicking, as Aj learned the hard way - a hawk took his sandwich! We later saw the signs warning about the hawks, but it was too late!
Benten Shrine: Benten is the Enoshima Island's patron goddess of good fortune, wealth, music, and knowledge. You can see the main shrine is free, though for 150 yen to see the Benten statue up close.
Visitors said that if spend money that you washed here, then the money will come back to you - double!
Enoshima Shrine: There are also three Shinto shrines devoted to Benzaiten, a Buddhist goddess.
Samuel Cocking Garden is a small garden near the Sea Candle observatory with a secret passage that runs below the garden.
Enoshima Sea Candle is a lighthouse observatory which has an enclosed observation deck as well as an open observation deck one floor above - it was ridiculously windy on the day we went, but worth it for the uninterrupted 360-degree views of Enoshima!
Love Bell (Koibito no Oka) is Enoshima's take on Paris's now defunct(?) love lock bridge. Couples can ring the bell and attach a lock to the fence - this will ensure they are together forever! It is a bit of a tourist trap, though very sweet and with gorgeous sweeping ocean views!
Iwaya Caves were carved out of the cliffs of Enoshima Island by tidal waves. There are two caves to see - the first is a larger and more impressive, while the second houses a wish-granting dragon. Get ready to crouch, as some of the ceilings are quite low!
The Southern Coast of Enoshima Island was the best part of the trip - the jagged rocky coast allowed you to walk out at your own peril with waves crashing violently against the rocks nearby. The sky at dusk was spectacular with fluffy clouds and rays of sunlight.
Tourists may want to take advantage of the Eno-Pass. For 1000 yen, it grants you access to Enoshima Escar (escalator making it much easier to get to the top!), Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden, Enoshima Sea Candle (lighthouse observation tower), and Iwaya caves.

Enoshima Beach and Island // Impressions of Japan
Enoshima, the Island in the Bay, is a small island off the shore of Kanagawa Prefecture. Despite its small appearance, it is full of temples, shrines, caves, and peculiar cats. Enoshima Island is connected to the mainland by a 600 meter long bridge that can be crossed by car, other vehicles, and by foot. On a clear day, Mount Fuji can be seen in the distance.
江の島ブログ Enoshima: Seaside day trip from Tokyo ????⛵????????????
Come with me as we take a day trip away from Tokyo!!
Located just over an away from the Japanese capital. You can find yourself in the seaside area of Enoshima by taking the Enoden from either JR Kamakura Station or JR Fujisawa Station.
This is a perfect day trip (or side trip from Kamakura) for those who want to enjoy the sea and beach under the beautiful blue skies whilst enjoying a cold beer and some local specialities such as Shirasudon and Shirasu ice cream!!
Finally to end the day as you're heading back to Kamakura. Stop off at Kamakurakokomae Station for some very photographic opportunities of the Enoden train against the ocean horizon and the sunset over Enoshima. (This railway crossing is also a popular spot for fans of the hit 90's manga Slam Dunk!!)

Food recommendation:
I highly recommend Uomitei for the Shirasu don and grilled squid. The restaurant is located just before the steps down to the Iwaya Caves. And a helpful tip for those who want to enjoy their meal on the outside decking whilst admiring the sea views. By the entrance of the store will be a book asking for your name, number of people and whether you want to sit inside or outside. Once you've done this wait till you're called and you will be directed to the outside seating area.

A bikini is usually a women's abbreviated two-piece swimsuit with a bra top for the chest and underwear cut below the navel. The basic design is simple: two triangles of fabric on top cover the woman's breasts and two triangles of fabric on the bottom cover the groin in front and the buttocks in back. The size of a bikini bottom can range from full pelvic coverage to a revealing thong or G-string design. The name for the bikini design was coined in 1946 by Parisian engineer Louis Réard, the designer of the bikini. He named the swimsuit after Bikini Atoll, where testing on the nuclear bomb was taking place. Fashion designer Jacques Heim, also from Paris, re-released a similar design earlier that same year, the Atome. Due to its controversial and revealing design, the bikini was slow to be adopted. In many countries it was banned from beaches and public places. While still considered risqué, the bikini gradually became a part of popular culture when film stars—Brigitte Bardot, Raquel Welch, Ursula Andress and others—began wearing them on public beaches and in film. The bikini design became common in most Western countries by the mid-1960s as beachwear, swimwear and underwear. By the late 20th century it had become common as sportswear in sports such as beach volleyball and bodybuilding. Variations of the term are used to describe stylistic variations for promotional purposes and industry classifications, including monokini, microkini, tankini, trikini, pubikini, and skirtini. A man's brief swimsuit may also be referred to as a bikini. Similarly, a variety of men's and women's underwear types are described as bikini underwear. The bikini has gradually grown to gain wide acceptance in Western society. By the early 2000s, bikinis had become a US$811 million business annually, and boosted spin-off services such as bikini waxing and sun tanning.
