Exploring Budapest by night!
We spend the afternoon exploring more of the city and finding wifi to plan our trip to Munich, then eat dinner at a place rated #1 on tripadvisor and are not disappointed. We went to the LIberty Statue and were treated to an amazing view of the Danube and the cities of Buda and Pest. At our last stop of the night at the Ruin Bar we learned what an incredibly small world it is!

More than hundred people were playing music and singing at the gate of Erzsébetváros, part of Budapest. The VII. district of FIDESZ - Hungarian Civic Party made „flash mob” into an event at the reconstructed, beautiful Madách Square with the assistance of great city performers. With people and tourists from the street, five hundred souls were listening, singing, performing parts of the famous hungarian opera Bánk Bán by Ferenc Erkel; Bánk's Aria: Like an exiled, wandering... We will go through the party district and give you some insights about it's history, development, and it's spice...
We will go to Füge Udvar, Ellátókert, Retox Bar, Ellátóház (The Hive), Corvin Club, Anker't and Instant / Fogas.
We will guide you through them during daylight, and also during the night, when they are filled with people from around the globe, as well as local Hungarians.
But what are ruin bars, and how do they contribute to the Budapest Nightlife scene?
Ruin bars are something we only have in here, they are special to Budapest.
There are a bunch of ruined but really neat Monarchy era buildings that instead of being renovated were made into high quality pubs and bars keeping their run down atmosphere. They are usually furnished with vintage communist era stuff, and are hit with some absurd hipster aesthetic. You can find them all over the 7th district (the party area).
A bit of history: At the beginning of year 2000 some houses became totally abandoned for economic reasons. Some investors bought them to renovate or demolish them. But the owners wanted to utilize the time between the purchase and the restoration. So they rented the properties for a short period. Some renters thought that it's a good idea to make temporary bars from these houses. They didn’t want to invest in expensive furniture for that short time, so as they saw the beauty of the retro, second-hand stuff, they tried to make some kind of nice atmosphere from old chairs, tables, cars, bathtubs, etc. what they could get for free from clearances.
The outcome was extraordinary!
First they were packed with local hipsters, but soon they became very popular for tourists. This is why we made this video, to spread the word where we party every night!

We’re starting our day on the BUDA side of the city, eating Hungarian GOULASH (940 HUF) for breakfast with local Hungarian beer at Ildyiko Konyhaja. Next, we walk across the famous chain bridge to get to the PEST side of the city. We make our way to Retro Lángos Bufé a street food stall that serves LÁNGOS (900 HUF), and we ordered it with loads of cream cheese, more cheese and onions. So delicious! We walk to visit the Central Market Hall, which is the largest market in all of Budapest. We browse local Hungarian specialties like the red-hot paprika and canned goose liver. We also head upstairs to sample CHICKEN PAPRIKASH (2000 HUF) and stuffed cabbage rolls (2000 HUF).
After a big lunch we head back toward the other side of the city, visiting the historical castle district and fisherman’s bastion that overlooks the Danube River. After some exploring, we are ready for dessert at the ancient cafe Ruszwurm Confectionary since 1827 for their famous chocolate cake and cream cake (650 HUF each) and coffee (750 HUF).
