Parallel Parking - The Right Distances
Parallel Parking - The Right Distances
Here's a video on how to judge your distances when parking in parallel (curb parking).

And “Parallel Parking: Aligning Yourself Properly” here:
Note: Laws, rules and requirements may be different where you are doing your exam. Always follow laws/rules/requirements that apply to where you are driving if they differ from the ones shown here. Also, the size of vehicles vary a lot, so you might have to make some adjustments depending on the size of your vehicle and the vehicle you're parking next to. Always do your verifications to make sure you're not getting too close to the other vehicles, people that might be passing by or any other obstacles before each maneuver. In this video I give as a reference the distance of someone standing between the two cars. It is only intended as an imaginary distance. Do not try this with someone in real life, it can be dangerous.
90 degrees Parking - How to Correct Yourself
In a previous video ( I showed you how to park backing up 90 degrees (bay parking). Now if everything goes perfectly, meaning you started with the right distances, all the other cars are well aligned in their lines, everything will be alright. But sometimes things just do go as smoothly as we’d like them to go. So here’s how to correct the situation when parking 90 degrees backwards.
For any info:

If you're too close to the car on the right, turn the wheel to the left to get a wider angle. Remember, you always turn the wheel to the side you want to go, be it going forward or backing up. So in this case, since we want to distance ourselves from the car on the right, we want to go to the left, so we turn the wheel to the left. The closer you are to the car on the right, the more you want to turn your wheel. Then, when you have enough distance from the car on the right, check your side mirror to get a good indication of the distance. Now this is one of those cases where looking in the mirrors will help you a lot more than looking behind with your head turned. You’ll have a lot better idea of the distance between your car and the other one by looking in the mirror as opposed to looking back with your head turned. Then, when you have a safe distance, which should be at least two feet, turn the wheel completely to the right to reposition the car, and back up until you’re straight.
If you're too close to the car to the left, there's not much you can do with the steering wheel since it's already turned completely to the right. The only option left, is to go forward. So what you'll need to do in this case, is to advance like if you were going to park in the parking spot in front of you. Turn the wheel completely to the left and align your car between the lines in front. In most parking lots, the Lines are aligned, so you know that if your car is well aligned between the lines of the parking spot in front, if you back up really straight, you'll also be all aligned in your parking. So now what you have to do is hold your wheel mostly straight and back up as straight as possible, correcting a bit if needed. If the parking spot in front of you is not empty, turn the wheel completely to the right, advance a bit, then turn it to the left and again, advance as much as you can, and repeat these steps as much as needed until the car is straight, then hold the wheel straight and back up until you fit in the spot.
Hope you liked this video, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask them in the comments. Thanks for watching.

Couple Tries to Stop Cruise Ship From Leaving Port
A couple frantically tried to stop a cruise ship that was leaving without them in the Bahamas after they turned up 45 minutes late to board the vessel. The couple was on a Royal Caribbean ship on Feb. 15 when they actually missed the boat. The unidentified man and woman were supposed to get back to the ship by 3:30 p.m., which is the last call for passengers, but when they showed up at the dock late the door was already closed. Video captured the pair looking dejected at the ship leaves them behind.

How to Do A 2-Point Reverse Turn OR Back Around a Corner
A 2-Point Reverse Turn--backing around a corner--is a required manoeuvre for a road test - watch the video. Get Your ROAD TEST CHECKLIST: SUBSCRIBE TODAY! ►
Of the slow-speed manoeuvres required for the purposes of a driver's license road test, the 2-point reverse turn is one of the easier requirements. Essentially, you are turning the vehicle around simply by backing around a corner. And the manoeuvre is similar to the set-up for the parallel parking setup:
How to Parallel Park | Pass a Road Test -
When the driving examiner indicates that you will execute a 2-point reverse turn, you mirror, signal, and shoulder check and move over to the side of the road past where you are going to turn around. Immediately upon attaining the side of the road, put the vehicle into reverse to activate the reverse lights. When stopping on the side of the road, you should be able to see the cross street through the rear passenger window of the vehicle.
Leave your signal on, do a 360° scan and turn the wheel all the way to the left and proceed to back around the corner. When the vehicle is around the corner, look forward and bring the steering wheel back to straight. Steering wheels on passenger vehicles move 11/2 to 2 turns in either direction. On most passenger vehicles, it is 1½ turns; therefore, if you bring the steering wheel back 1½ turns, and when the logo is upright, the wheels will be straight.
Bring the vehicle to a stop and signal to the left. Do a 360° scan. When the way is clear you can proceed in the opposite direction. Those are the step-by-step procedures for a 2-Point Reverse Turn, which is a required skill for a road test.
Good luck on your road test!

Join the Smart Driver's Mastermind Group:
Hi there smart drivers, welcome back.
Rick with Smart Drive Test talking to you today about parallel parking between cones. I had a comment from nikelnichol. I also had a comment from Nicolas Mazer and both of those smart drivers wanted me to do a video on how to park between cones for the purposes of passing a road test. About a year ago, I also had requests from WorstNightmare666 who also wanted me to do this.
And I should have done this a lot earlier.
So I do apologize for the delay in getting this video up for you. So that's what we're gonna work on today. Now the first thing you're gonna need is you're going to need those 36 inch tall, 1 meter tall pylons. Sometimes called delineators. And you could pick those up at a rental shop for about $10 for four of them for the day So they're inexpensive.
Now parallel parking between cones for the purposes of passing a road test. If you haven't seen the parallel park video already about parking behind a single vehicle or between two vehicles, definitely have a look at that. I'll put the card up in the corner for you and have a look at that video.
Now parallel parking between cones tends to be a little bit easier because you got better reference points. And we're gonna go over that now. The first thing you need to do, is you need to set up the cones. You want to set up the cones, as you can see here in the video, approximately a foot wider than the width of your vehicle. You want to put the cone 12 inches or 20 centimeters on either side of the car; on the passenger side and the driver's side.
And for the length of the vehicle you want to put the cones one and a half vehicle lengths. So simply park your vehicle where you want it to end up when you finish your parallel park and place the cones at the front and then approximately another half a length behind the vehicle. Put the cones behind the vehicle at approximately the same distance on the driver side and the passenger side. As you get better and better and more comfortable with parallel parking, you can move the cones in and narrow the space that you're going to park into.
But for most of these driving centers, the cones are going to be one and a half vehicle length distance between the front and the back. And the reason for that is because any tighter than that and it's just too difficult for new drivers to be able to do that. So that's how you set up the cones. It's not a specific feet and inches or a specific measurement for setting the cones up. Just put them around your vehicle and make them relative.
And as I said, as you get better and better and you're working on this aspect of preparation for your road test, just move the cones in a closer and essentially that's all it is. So what we're gonna do here is we're gonna hook up the cameras--the other camera--so you can see everything going on here, and we're gonna do a couple of parallel parks. And I'll go through it step-by-step and give you instructions on how to do this.
Good luck on your road test.

Cable Car ride up Whistlers Mountain near Jasper Canada
We took a trip from Jasper town to the Whistlers mount cable car which takes you almost too it's peak. You feel like you are on the top of the world!
The air is thin up there and progress to high viewing points is difficult but the views are spectacular and worth the effort. The ride cost 32 Canadian bucks and if you are travelling up from Jasper the mini bus cost a further six. Well worth the money if you are lucky like us and get a clear day. Don't think it would be worthwhile if the weather was misty or cloudy. Take water with you if you decide to climb higher.

How To Adjust Your Car Mirrors To Eliminate Blind Spots SAE
Adjusting their vehicle's mirrors is something all drivers do as a normal routine. But according to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and Car and Driver Magazine, it's also something that most of us are probably doing wrong! I read an article published in Car and Driver about a paper written by the SAE, in which the SAE laid out the best way to adjust your mirrors in order to eliminate dangerous blind spots. It opened my eyes and made me change how I was doing it, so I wanted to share that with you. I've also included a link below to the original article where this information came from and I recommend that you read it for yourself. Thanks for watching!
