Erdinger Weißbräu Brewery Tour
The Privatbrauerei Erdinger Weißbräu Werner Brombach GmbH (also known as Erdinger Weißbräu) is a brewery in Erding, Germany. Its best-known products are its namesake Weißbiers (wheat beer).
Erdinger calls itself the world's largest wheat beer brewery. It is widely available and popular across Germany and the European Union. Erdinger was founded in 1886 by Johann Kienle. Erdinger beer is the best-known culinary product of the city. However the brewery did not receive its current name until 1949 from its owner Franz Brombach, who had acquired the brewery 14 years earlier. The current owner is Franz Brombach's son, Werner Brombach (from 1975).
Currently, there are nine varieties available:
Weißbier - a golden cloudy beer (alc 5.3%, white/cream label, pictured)
Dunkel- a dark brown type (alc 5.6%, black label)
Kristallklar (crystal clear) - a filtered Weißbier (alc 5.3%, silver label)
Pikantus (picaanthus) - a dark weizenbock beer (alc 7.3%)
Leicht (light) - a light beer (alc 2.9%)
Schneeweiße (snow-white) - a seasonal beer brewed from November to February (alc 5.6%)
Erdinger Champ - a wheat beer that can be drunk straight from the bottle (alc 4.7%)
Alkoholfrei (alcohol free) - an alcohol free version (alc 0.4%, blue label)
Festbier (festive beer) - a seasonal brew for Erding's Herbstfestes (autumn festival, also known as Volksfest)
In 2004, as part of their Oktoberfest celebration Bier Market in Toronto, Ontario was the first Canadian location to offer Erdinger. Erdinger has since become available in LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) stores throughout the province.

Commercial Description - Straight from Erding, Germany, Erdinger is now one of the biggest Germany weissbiers on the market. It is exported across the globe and they produce several high quality beers. One of them just happens to be this one you’re reading about right now. Out on its own as one of the best weissbiers around, Erdinger uses only the finest raw ingredients to guarantee its unmistakable taste. It uses a fine yeast and is bottle fermented for three to four weeks after adhering to the Bavarian purity laws.
Erdinger Pikantus has an unusually high ABV at 7.3% and it is a weissebeer doppelbock, making it a strong and dark wheat beer, highly complex and desirable. You can describe the aroma as a symphony with the dark malts seeping honey, caramel and cloves. It has a dark colour and creamy head with hints of nutmeg and fine nougat on the palate with the intense flavours being followed by a soft and delicate finish. This full bodied beverage make it ideal to accompany any meal and if you’re feeling adventurous can even be used as a base for BBQ sauces and marinades. Or just consume on its own as an aperitif for those who like their beer outside of sauces.

A new era of flexibility & energy-economy - Erdinger Weißbräu
The Erdinger Weissbräu wheat beer brewery has been modernising its bottling operations – and has accordingly invested in some new lines from Krones. For the market leader in Germany’s wheat beer segment, this means one of the biggest ever investment projects in the firm’s entire history.
The new lines are not only replacements for their ageing predecessors – Erdinger Weissbräu also sees them as heralding a new era in terms of versatile flexibility and energy-economy.

In this episode of DJs BrewTube I review Erdinger Weissbrau Oktoberfest. Erdinger Weissbrau Oktoberfest is a Hefeweizen that is meant to be a tasty classic example of the style and it clocks in at 5.0% ABV. Erdinger Weissbrau describes their Oktoberfest as follows:
Erdinger's Oktoberfest Weißbier or Festweiße (they are the same beer with different labels) is a stronger than usual Weizen, not a Marzen.
This all sounds quite nice, so lets see if Erdinger Weissbrau Oktoberfest lives up to the prose. Written review and report card follows:
Erdinger Weissbrau Oktoberfest REVIEW:
A: Erdinger Weissbrau Oktoberfest pours a cloudy golden straw color, frothy 3 finger white head with great retention and glass lacing.
S: Banana, clove, mild citrus - floral hops and very distinct wheat aroma. No alcohol is detectable in the the nose.
T: Follows the nose to a, T. Banana, clove, mild citrus - floral hops and wheat malt. Just like a Hefeweizen should taste. Very reminiscent of Banana Bread. No alcohol is detectable in the the taste.
M: Very smooth carbonation, thin mouth feel, very easy to pour down you neck super fast.
O: Erdinger Weissbrau Oktoberfest is a highly drinkable and sessionable beer that has a decent amount of flavor for what it is. Though it is not my favorite Hefeweizen, it is very well made and true to the style. Though its not my favorite, I would gladly drink it again.
Serving type: 11.2 oz Bottle
