The Yerebuni Fortress is a 2,800-yr-old fortress dug up in the 1950s. According to pieces of wall engravements, this fortress was built in 781 B.C. Surrounding the fortress are picturesque views of the Mt. Ararat, Mt. Aragats, Mt. Ara and the Caucasus Region of Armenia. It is a beautiful escape from the rush of the city of Yerevan. It takes around 1 hour 30 minutes to walk and if you opt to take the taxi it takes around 12 minutes. If you walk you will be rewarded with a more in depth view of the local life of Yerevan. One of the best rewards we got was to witness lavash making for free (video coming soon! ).

Here I present a series of photographs of Yerevan, the capital and largest city of Armenia.
Yerevan is also one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. The history of Yerevan dates back to the 8th century BC, with the founding of the fortress of Erebuni in 782 BC by king Argishti I at the western extreme of the Ararat plain. During the centuries long Persian rule over Eastern Armenia that lasted from the early 16th century up to 1828, Yerevan was the centre of Persia's Erivan khanate administrative division from 1736.
In 1828, teh city became part of Imperial Russia alongside the rest of Eastern Armenia as a result of the Russo-Persian War between 1826 and 1828. The city expanded rapidly during the 20th century as Armenia became part of the Soviet Union. In a few decades, Yerevan was transformed from a provincial town within the Russian Empire, to Armenia's principal cultural, artistic, and industrial centre, as well as becoming the seat of national government........
Following the dismantling of the USSR, Yerevan became the capital of the Republic of Armenia on 21 September 1991.

Hromkla _ Armenian Fortress - Cilician ARMENIA
Hromkla , Հռոմկլա (Hromkla) in Armenian.
Its strategic location was already known to the Assyrians, although the present structure is largely Byzantine and Armenian in origin, with extensive rebuilding following the Mamluk conquest. After the Byzantine withdrawal from the region in the later eleventh century, it was held by Armenian princes until it was absorbed into the Frankish county of Edessa in the years following the First Crusade, and when it was known as 'Ranculat'. From 1151 until 1292 Hromkla served as the seat of the supreme head (catholicos) of the Armenian church.[1] In 1292 it was captured by the Mamluks of Egypt following a protracted siege, when it was officially renamed 'Qal'at al-Muslimin', a name which, however, seems not to have stuck.
The fortress, now situated across a peninsula created by the reservoir of Birecik Dam and within the administrative boundaries of Şanlıurfa's Halfeti district, is currently accessible by boat either from the neighboring site of Zeugma or from the town of Halfeti. As of September 2011, it was not possible to land at the site; there seems to be extensive (re)building under way inside the fortress and on the external walls.[citation needed] Much of the surrounding work of the fortress, along with local villages and farmland, has been flooded; it is not clear how much of the entrance way up from the western side remains undamaged by the rising waters

Yerevan,Erivan:
Yerevan (sometimes spelled Erivan is the capital and largest city of Armenia as well as one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. Situated along the Hrazdan River, Yerevan is the administrative, cultural, and industrial center of the country. It has been the capital since 1918, the thirteenth in the history of Armenia, and the seventh located in or around the Ararat plain.
The history of Yerevan dates back to the 8th century BC, with the founding of the fortress of Erebuni in 782 BC by king Argishti I at the western extreme of the Ararat plain. Erebuni was designed as a great administrative and religious centre, a fully royal capital. By the late ancient Armenian Kingdom, new capital cities were established and Yerevan declined in importance. Under Iranian and Russian rule, it was the center of the Erivan Khanate from 1736 to 1828 and the Erivan Governorate from 1850 to 1917, respectively. After World War I, Yerevan became the capital of the First Republic of Armenia as thousands of survivors of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire arrived in the area. The city expanded rapidly during the 20th century as Armenia became part of the Soviet Union. In a few decades, Yerevan was transformed from a provincial town within the Russian Empire to Armenia's principal cultural, artistic, and industrial center, as well as becoming the seat of national government.
With the growth of the economy of the country, Yerevan has been undergoing major transformation as many parts of the city have been the recipient of new construction since the early 2000s, and retail outlets as much as restaurants, shops, and street cafés, which were rare during Soviet times, have multiplied. As of 2011, the population of Yerevan was 1,060,138, just over 35% of the Republic of Armenia's total population. According to the official estimate of 2016, the current population of the city is 1,073,700. Yerevan was named the 2012 World Book Capital by UNESCO. Yerevan is an associate member of Eurocities.
Of the notable landmarks of Yerevan, Erebuni Fortress is considered to be the birthplace of the city, the Katoghike Tsiranavor church is the oldest surviving church of Yerevan and Saint Gregory Cathedral is the largest Armenian cathedral in the world, Tsitsernakaberd is the official memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, and several opera houses, theatres, museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions. Yerevan Opera Theatre is the main spectacle hall of the Armenian capital, the National Gallery of Armenia is the largest art museum in the Republic of Armenia and shares a building with the History Museum of Armenia, and the Matenadaran repository contains one of the largest depositories of ancient books and manuscripts in the world. The neoclassical Republic Square is the center of the city and the monumental Cascade steps lead from the city center to Victory Park, home of a Luna Park and the statue Mother Armenia overlooking Yerevan.Wikipedia
