A Strong History of Service
Around 100 years ago, a group of people in New Zealand started taking Clydesdale horses pretty seriously. Today, this magnificent breed is still alive and well, enjoying a variety of roles from traditional farmwork through to pleasure riding.
This short video was made to commemorate a century of service to, and from, this mighty breed.

Anglicans convulsing over LGBT Erewhon and Darwin
Anglicans convulsing over LGBT Erewhon and Darwin | Through the Year with John Wesley
Samuel Butler came to New Zealand 1859-63 to make his fortune. He left England after failing to please his father in a number of career options. His father was an Anglican clergyman who wanted Samuel in the Church. But as a young curate he came to have huge doubts over what he called the efficacy of infant baptism. One doubt led to another and soon he threw in the towel. Samuel Butler also hankered to be an artist, but his father wanted none of that. Eventually the rift between them grew very deep, and both seemed capable of holding a life-time grudge. New Zealand was the solution. Rev Butler arranged to give his son a large sum when he had established himself. £4,000 was to purchase a high country sheep station in South Canterbury at the headwaters of the great braided river called Rangitata. Butler named his station Mesopotamia, and high up in the foothills of the Southern Alps he spun many dreams.

Through the Year with John Wesley explores many different features of the Methodist Church, especially in its New Zealand context.

We can rightly be amazed at how much the founder of the Methodist Church Rev John Wesley achieved with his reading and writing.
Wesley, in his 1765 address to the clergy laid out an informal curriculum for clergy training. And it included three key elements we may not have expected: Science, Nature and Geometry.
Wesley lived through massive social changes, all part of the industrial, scientific and societal revolutions of the period. His books, tracts, sermons, surveys, letters and journals are part and parcel of this huge literary outpouring.
Had he done nothing else, this dapper, small framed 18th century English clergyman is beyond compare for literary output, particularly his Journal.
There is nothing quite like Wesley's journals. They detail a rich social history along with a theological and practical response to the issues Wesley saw on his incredible road trips. Clocking up over a quarter of a million miles on horseback, the reach of Wesley's vision is nowhere more apparent than in his detailed journals.

Colliers International are proud to offer Mt White Station for sale for the first time since 1924. This highly regarded high country station totals in excess of 40,000 hectares and enjoys a 31 kilometre frontage to the upper reaches of the Waimakariri River and is bounded by Arthurs Pass National Park to the west and the Puketeraki and Dampier Ranges to the east and north. 1995 - Rob and Joe in Mount Somers, New Zealand
Mount Somers, Southern Island New Zealand, approx March 1995. We stayed at Rutland, owned by Robert Schikker after we had worked for a while at Inverary Station, owned by John and Anne Chapman.
Brian, one of John's 2 shepards got to know us a litter better and decided to hang out with us a bit. So one day he asked us to get some cattle. Luckily not by foot, but by horseriding!
There was also a nasty goat who needed to be shot.
Good fun for Joe and me!
Boundary Creek Hut via Mystery Lake, Hakatere (Ashburton lakes), Geraldine/Ashburton, Canterbury, NZ
A Trail-er of a track found in Hakatere Conservation park near the Ashburton lakes in Canterbury New Zealand.
The track is an alpine walk that is well marked and pretty well maintained, it climbs to about 1280m from Potts river carpark near Erewhon station and the filming set for Edoras (from lord of the rings) while going past a Lake and then descending back to the hut over a saddle. As its a alpine environment the weather is unpredictable.
The video and Natural audio in this video belong to Trail-ers while the music can be found on Youtube music and is titled Hanging out.
Meat hunt for Tahr. May 2016
The Boyd family, Trista and the Waddell family head up the Clyde river for 3 nights to camp and hunt Tahr for the freezer. Tom shot his 1st and 2nd Tahr and Tim shot one from just under 600yrd range. The river was as low as we have ever seen and it blew NW for two of the three nights. Tahr numbers are also the lowest we've seen up here on the Public land, possibly its being hammered by heli-hunters as were saw two choppers dropping hunters at the huts in the days we were there.
