P2V-7 NEPTUNE Military plane- Navy antisubmarine/Air Force Night Attack- Erickson Aircraft Coll.
P2V-7 NEPTUNE- NARRATIVE from the company website:
The Lockheed P2V-7 Neptune was the last and most sophisticated derivative of the P2V models built for the U.S. Navy for a primary mission of anti-submarine warfare and a secondary mission of mining. First flown in 1954, it was the only production model of the Neptune to have underwing jet pods and to utilize the “Jezebel” and “Julie” submarine detection gear. 216 were produced and saw considerable service in Vietnam; used by the Navy for surveillance missions and by the Air Force for night attack. The P2V-7 followed the P2V-1 which was introduced originally to satisfy the Navy’s need for a greater range, load carrying ability and performance than that provided by flying boats. The P2V-1 was first flown in 1946 and various models of P2Vs were in service for nearly 30 years. They were the mainstay of the Navy’s land-based patrol squadrons until replaced by the Lockheed P-3 Orion. The last ASW Neptune, a P2V-7, made its final flight in February 1970 with Rear Admiral Davies, pilot of the “Truculent Turtle, as its co-pilot.
SPECIFIC HISTORY
The museum’s P2V-7 Anti-Submarine Patrol bomber is a true veteran of the Cold War and was one of the last of its type to serve in the United States Navy. It was accepted by the USN in October 1961 and over the next 16 years patrolled the Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific, and Mediterranean Oceans looking for and tracking submarines before being retired in 1977. It still retains much of its original radar and other submarine detection equipment.

Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress “Madras Maiden - Erickson Aircraft Collection
The Erickson Aircraft Collection’s B-17G Bomber was manufactured by Lockheed-Vega and delivered to the U.S.A.A.F. on October 16, 1944. It was modified to be a “Pathfinder” B-17, equipped with the latest ground scanning H2X radar for nighttime bombing. From 1944-1959 he aircraft spent its entire military career as a research and development aircraft before being dropped from the U.S.A.F. inventory in May 1959. In 1961, Albany Building Corporation purchased the B-17 and used it for hauling freight, before selling it in 1963 to Dothan Aviation Corp. where it was used as an agriculture sprayer. In 1979, Doc Hospers of Fort Worth, Texas purchased the airplane and restored it to flying condition. The airplane was then sold to Jerry Yagen at the Military Aviation Museum in 2009. In 2013, N3701G was sold to the Erickson Collection, an aviation museum in Madras Oregon. Restored to her combat configuration and painted in the colors of the 381st Bomb Group, and sporting the Madras Maiden nose-art. Of the B-17 “Pathfinders” that were built, it is the only one left in existence.

Madras, Oregon
Madras ( ) is a city in Jefferson County, Oregon, United States. Originally called The Basin after the circular valley the city is in, it is unclear whether Madras was named in 1903 for the cotton fabric called Madras that originated in the city of Madras (now Chennai) in Tamil Nadu, India, or from the name of the city itself. The population was 6,046 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County.
The original plat for Madras was filed on July 18, 1902, by Scandinavian immigrant John A. Palmehm, for whom the town was originally named Palmain. The name was rejected by the U.S. Postal Service over its similarity to a post office named Parmen, and the name Madras was adopted, inspired by the cloth fabric of the same name, itself named for the city of Madras (now Chennai) in India.
Madras was incorporated as a city in 1911. An Army Air Corps base was built nearby during World War II. This airfield now serves as [the Madras Municipal Airport]. Homesteads approximately north of the city on Agency Plains were based on dryland wheat.
In 2003, a Scotts Company large field trial of GMO bentgrass near Madras resulted in pollen spreading the transgene, which is Roundup resistant, over an area of .
Because the grower could not remove all genetically engineered plants, the U.S. Department of Agriculture fined the grower $500,000 for non-compliance with regulations in 2007.
The centerline of the path of totality of the Solar eclipse of August 21, 2017, ran very close to Madras. Because the city is located in a high desert environment and has consistently clear skies in August, it was considered a prime eclipse viewing location. All of the hotel and motel rooms in the area had been reserved for several years. The town had prepared for an influx of about 100,000 visitors for the eclipse.

Field Burn September 14, 2010.mov
Around noon on September 14th, the Corvallis Fire Department (with help from Philomath FD) conducted a practice burn in the Mary's River Grasslands Park. This burn offers the Fire Dept. an opportunity to hone their skills and also helps suppress unwanted invasive vegetation in the park. (The open space areas of the park were used for many years as Rye grass production and the city is reestablishing the land as a more natural riparian wetland environment)

Lockheed P-2 Neptune
The Lockheed P-2 Neptune was a Maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft. It was developed for the US Navy by Lockheed to replace the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura and PV-2 Harpoon, and being replaced in turn with the Lockheed P-3 Orion. Designed as a land-based aircraft, the Neptune never made a carrier landing, although a small number of aircraft were converted and deployed as carrier launched stop-gap nuclear bombers which would have to ditch or recover at land bases. The type was successful in export and saw service with several armed forces.
