[Announcer] The 18 holes at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee, were actually created in the Ice Age, it just took 10,000 years for them to be unearthed. This unique plot of land was discovered by the design team of Dr. Michael Hurdzan, Dana Fry, and Golf Digest Architecture Editor, Ron Whitten, back in the early 2000s. Once the design trio began their work of turning the former cornfield into a golf course, they took great pains to mow out natural fairways and greens:36 from the existing topography. Except for when they were digging bunkers, they only moved earth on a total of four holes. That's how naturally shaped this course is. The designers worked hard to make each hole look unique. When Erin Hills opened in 2006, it was widely acclaimed right away. With its rumpled blanket landscape, roller coaster fairways of dry fescue, flawless greens of bent grass, and tall native roughs that swayed in the ever-present breeze, Erin Hills was immediately pronounced one of the most natural courses in America. The United States Golf Association took note:14 even before it opened. The USGA held the 2008 Women's Public Links Championship here, and then in 2011, Kelly Kraft won the US Amateur Championship at Erin Hills. The USGA liked the layout so much, Erin Hills is where the greatest players in the world will play the 2017 US Open next June.:36 It will be the first time Wisconsin has hosted a US Open, and only the sixth time a public golf course has been given the honor. More bunkers have been added in preparation for the toughest test in golf, and a few greens have been relocated and others rebuilt, but the theme of the original design remains unchanged. Erin Hills is golf dictated by Mother Nature, rustic and rumbling, quirky in spots, with holes that look a lot harder than they actually play.

Erin Hills 2017 U. S. Open - Erin, Wisconsin
HARTFORD, WI - JUNE 18: Brooks Koepka of the United States kisses the winner's trophy after his victory at the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills on June 18, 2017 in Hartford, Wisconsin.
Brooks Koepka: The 27-year-old played the round of his life at the perfect time, firing a 67 to win by four shots. Koepka put the tournament away with three consecutive birdies on holes 14-16 and tied Rory McIlroy's U.S. Open scoring record. The cool customer even allowed himself a fist pump upon tapping in for the victory.
Despite scores foreign to a typical U.S. Open, there was the unmistakable buzz that accompanies the Sunday of a major championship. Justin Thomas had just made history with a Saturday 63 and a packed leader board promised an exciting final round. Unfortunately, it didn't play out that way. Golf fans saw a potential new star emerge, but the tournament's finish was a far cry from what we saw at the Masters in April. In any event, there was still plenty to talk about, so here's one final installment of birdies and (mostly) bogeys.

Pottery by Jean's Clay Studio - 2017 U.S. Open Golf Championship - Erin Hills
Over the past few years, the United States Golf Association has been finding local artisans near their championship sites to feature in their merchandise tent, offering attendees the opportunity to experience locally made products. In 2016, Jean's Clay Studio was commissioned by the USGA to create custom pottery to be sold at the 2017 U.S. Open Championship at Erin Hills golf course in Wisconsin on June 8 - 18, 2017.
Jean created these pieces with the unique landscape of Wisconsin's glaciated Kettle Moraine in mind. The sgraffito technique that Jean uses reflects the undulating hills and kettles that create the beautiful golf course. The process is very time intensive. This video gives a high speed glimpse into the entire process.
These exclusive items will be sold in the merchandise tent at Erin Hills, Wisconsin from June 8 - 18, 2017.

2019 Wisconsin Builders Foundation Golf Outing
On June 27, 2019, the Wisconsin Builders Association hosted our Wisconsin Builders Foundation Golf Outing at SentryWorld golf course in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
Established in 1947, the Wisconsin Builders Association is a professional trade association that has been Protecting the American Dream for over 70 years.
The Wisconsin Builders Foundation is the charitable arm of the WBA, committed to improving housing in Wisconsin by promoting the industry to qualified students and offering continued education to our members.
The golfers in attendance at the 2019 outing had a great time while assisting the Foundation's efforts to support future builders in the state of Wisconsin. Funds raised will go towards scholarships for students going into the building trades. With this help, we ensure that Wisconsin students receive the opportunities they need!
The Foundation’s president Greg Schaffer was excited to see so many folks at SentryWorld supporting the educational efforts of Wisconsin’s housing industry.
104 golfers were in attendance at the 2019 outing.
The backdrop for this event couldn’t have been more beautiful. SentryWorld is a picturesque course with holes that include a par three that sends tee shots over water to a peninsula green and hole 16 which features 33,000 vivid flowers surrounding its green. Between that and much more, SentryWorld has earned its reputation as a Midwestern golf destination.

Best Golf in Wisconsin: Whistling Straits, Sand Valley, Mammoth Dunes, Blackwolf Run, Erin Hills
Part II of my 2018 Epic Dream Golf Series is the Great State of Wisconsin. When you think of great golf destinations, Myrtle Beach, Pinehurst, Bandon and Pebble come to mind. Your list should include and needs to include Wisconsin. Wisconsin is filled with amazing golf course courses and experiences suited for a wide range of golfers on the road. I was able to play 6 of Wisconsin’s best public courses ranging from Amazing newcomers to well establish golf gems. I based my lodging in downtown Milwaukee, but all course would be great destinations to base your golf trip, that said to have a truly epic golf experience you will want to venture off whatever property you choose to play one or two of the others.
My First course was Whistling Strait – Straits Course. Easily the best course in the state and one of the best courses in the World. The Straits course is a testament to the genius and vision of Pete Dye. Pete Dye created an amazing seaside dunes experience on Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan feels like the Atlantic when playing Whistling Straits. You hear wave crashing and there is no end to the water you see. All of the par threes are on the Lake as well a many more holes but as you look out across the course you will look in awe at the magnificence of this course. The course is filled with bunkers and fescue and you always have a sense of danger with your tee shot. The majority of the course has room, but an errant shot will bring tall grass and loose bunkers into play.
On Day 2, I ventured out to Sand Valley Golf Resort. Sand Valley is the youngest addition to the high caliber golf world of Wisconsin, but it has it all. Owned and Developed by the same family that brought us Bandon Dunes, Sand Valley is a must for Buddies Golf Trips. Sand Valley gets everything right for the serious golfer down to the smallest detail. My first course was Sand Valley, a true Coore and Crenshaw design, skill and strategy are required to score well. Coore and Crenshaw are my favorite modern course designers, by far, they truly get the art and strategy of course design. Sand is abundant everywhere on Sand Valley but with generous fairways and no rough you do not have to concern yourself with living in bunkers. The concern and your focus will be on if you landed in the best location to attack the flag and hold the green. The green complexes are well thought out and will require some of your best approach shots. My second course for the day is Mammoth Dunes. Mammoth Dunes is the friendlier of the two 18 holes with Massive fairways and huge greens it is inviting to a wide range of golfers. My round was rained out on the 6th hole but Mammoth is epic in scale and a course you will enjoy especially if you play after Sand Valley. Once the Clouds broke and the rain stopped I ran over to the Sandbox. The Sandbox is a 17 hole par 3 short course that is perfect for a golf trip warm up or just a casual golf bonus. You will only need a few wedges and a putter and maybe one 9 or 8 iron for this course. The first thing you will notice is that this course is not a pushover, you have to bring your best short game and putting to score. The next thing you will notice is that everywhere around you people are laughing and having a great time. I joined up with a great group of guys and had a great time trying shots, talking golf and even laughing with other groups as they passed by. Similar to Bandon, Cabot and Streamsong, Sand Valley is great for the serious passionate golfer. Tom Doak was just announced to be building the third 18 at Sand Valley and I can not wait to go back and experience.
Day 3 - I played Blackwolf Run – River and Whistling Straits – Irish. Blackwolf Run is the only course I played on this trip that routed felt similar to a parkland style course. Blackwolf Run is beautiful and utilizes the land it is on perfectly. The Sheboygan River and various lakes and pond make this one of the best looking course I have played. Another Pete Dye Course, you will enjoy the lush forest, rolling hills and elevation changes throughout the course. The Irish course is easily overshadowed by The Straits course but is a must play. The Irish Course has many of the same features and design qualities of the Straits course but it is lacking Lake Michigan.
Day 4, I played Erin Hills, who Hosted the recent US Open in 2017. I personally thought this course was going to be the weak link in the group and that all of its accolades came from the US Open. The pictures you see online, the US Open Coverage and even my video do not do this course justice. Erin Hill is specular, grand, fun and engaging. My Second favorite course on this dream trip, Erin Hills engages you with every shot and especially your tee shot.
Wisconsin is a can’t miss.
