Leicestershire is a landlocked county in the English Midlands. The county borders Nottinghamshire to the north, Lincolnshire to the north-east, Rutland to the east, Northamptonshire to the south-east, Warwickshire to the south-west, Staffordshire to the west, and Derbyshire to the north-west. The border with most of Warwickshire is Watling Street
Leicestershire was recorded in the Domesday Book in four wapentakes: Guthlaxton, Framland, Goscote and Gartree. These later became hundreds, with the division of Goscote into West Goscote and East Goscote, and the addition of Sparkenhoe hundred. In 1087, the first recorded use of the name was as Laegrecastrescir.

Leicestershire's external boundaries have changed little since the Domesday Survey. The Measham-Donisthorpe exclave of Derbyshire has been exchanged for the Netherseal area, and the urban expansion of Market Harborough has caused Little Bowden, previously in Northamptonshire to be annexed.
In 1974, the Local Government Act 1972 abolished the county borough status of Leicester city and the county status of neighbouring Rutland, converting both to administrative districts of Leicestershire. These actions were reversed on 1 April 1997, when Rutland and the City of Leicester became unitary authorities. Rutland became a distinct Ceremonial County once again, although it continues to be policed by Leicestershire Constabulary.
The symbol of the county council, Leicestershire County Cricket Club and Leicester City FC, is the fox. Leicestershire is considered to be the birthplace of fox hunting as it is known today. Hugo Meynell, who lived in Quorn, is known as the father of fox hunting. Melton Mowbray and Market Harborough have associations with fox hunting, as has neighbouring Rutland.

'I'd be dead in two days without a knife'
There are more knife crimes on the streets of England and Wales than at any time for almost a decade and, more than ever, young people are likely to be involved.
The Home Secretary Sajid Javid has introduced new measures to help children understand that by joining a gang and carrying a knife they are putting their lives at risk.
These knife crime prevention orders allow police to place restrictions on teenagers they suspect of carrying weapons.
Sky's home editor Jason Farrell spoke to one gang who told him why they carry knives and what it would take for them to leave a life of crime.

Escape to the Country - East Midlands - 2018 - 2019
Escape to the Country - East Midlands ...
The East Midlands is one of nine official regions of England at the first level of NUTS for statistical purposes. The eastern part of the Midlands, it consists of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire (except North and North East Lincolnshire), Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland.
The region has an area of 15,627 km2 (6,034 sq mi), and was home to over 4.5 million people in 2011. There are five principal urban centres, Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Northampton and Nottingham; and a number of next tier centres including Boston, Chesterfield, Corby, Grantham, Hinckley, Kettering, Loughborough, Mansfield, Newark and Wellingborough. The region's relative proximity to London and its connectivity on the national motorway and trunk road networks help the East Midlands thrive as an economic hub. The region's principal airport is East Midlands Airport located between Derby, Loughborough and Nottingham.
Regional financial funding decisions for the East Midlands are taken by East Midlands Councils, based in Melton Mowbray. East Midlands Councils is not an elected body; it is made up of representatives of local government in the region.
The East Midlands Development Agency was headquartered next to the BBC's East Midlands office in Nottingham, and made financial decisions regarding economic development in the region.
However, since the Conservative-Lib Dem coalition government launched their austerity programme following the 2010 general election, regional bodies such as those held by the Regional Development Agencies have been devolved to smaller groups now on a County level. As a region today, there is no overriding body with significant financial or planning powers for the East Midlands.

Shocking CCTV: Gang members attack foreign student
Subscribe to ITN News:
The Metropolitan Police have released shocking CCTV footage of a gang violently attacking a foreign student allegedly because he was not a local. The detailed footage shows five Asian men setting upon 22-year-old Francesco Hounye, who had only arrived in the UK three days earlier. They smashed a bottle into his face and then chased after him to continue their assault, repeatedly kicking and punching him. Mr Hounye was taken to the Royal London Hospital and had 23 stitches to his face. He now suffers from permanent scarring and says he is scared to go out in London alone.
Detective Constable Ben Mott, said: We believe the suspects picked a fight with the victim as he was obviously not from the local area and they took exception to the fact that he was a bit different. Report by Sarah Kerr.

See a cyclist escaped a knife attack | Real Violence For Knowledge
CATEGORY: Knife Violence | Analyzed Content | Explicit content 3 (scale 1-5) - Rated NC-17
See a Cyclist escaped a knife attack. Probably a gang-related attack.
I am not sure the victim is hit because the victim is not yet found.
Some patterns:
» Chooses not to accelerate or change direction, etc. Using his bike as a dynamic shield/barrier/weapon (as a bridge) for his escape on foot. Mostly, when you cannot ‘outrun’ him on a bicycle you probably will not outrun him on foot. We do not know why he chooses this tactic. Maybe too late to accelerate, problems with the narrow passage or with the bike itself, etc.
» He throws his bike in a very straight way, which was lightly deflected and evaded by the attacker.
» Some actions of the victim as prevention being stabbed, working his way through the backdoor and then escaped.
This was a typical hit-run attack which was in favor of the victim.

A cyclist escaped a knife wielding man in the middle of a city centre by throwing his bike at him.
Shocking footage of the incident was captured in Leicester, where 22-year old Cecil Samba was caught on CCTV approaching the cyclist, who has not yet been identified.
Samba had travelled from London to Leicester to meet his girlfriend when he lashed out at the cyclist.

Cecil Samba (right of van) can be seen walking around a white van to get to the cyclist, brandishing a knife in one hand
There then seems to be some confrontation between the two as the cyclist (left) stops on the pavement
Samba (right) launched at the cyclist with a knife in the middle of the day in Leicester city centre
At about 3.30pm on 22 March he was seen holding the knife and pointing it at the cyclist, who defended himself by launching his bike at Samba.
A PCSO who was in the area and close to Braunstone Gate radioed for assistance but the victim left the scene before emergency services arrived minutes later.
Leicester Crown Court sentenced Samba to four years imprisonment for grievous bodily harm with intent.
Samba then continues to slash at the cyclist, who throws his bike at Samba to try and defend himself

He also received six months imprisonment for possession of a bladed article. The sentences are set to run concurrently, Leicester Mercury reported.
Samba, of Conisborough Crescent in Lewisham, London, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing in June to attempted wounding with intent and threatening a person with a blade in a public place.
Investigating officer PC Suhaib Khalid said: 'This is yet another example of the damage that can be done when a decision is made to carry a knife.

It has many names — Black Mamba, Bliss, Bombay Blue, Fake Weed, Genie, K2, Moon Rocks, Skunk, Yucatan Fire, and Zohai — but whatever you call it, Spice is not nice. A synthetic drug made from shredded herbs and laboratory-made chemicals intended to mimic the effects of THC, Spice was originally marketed almost a decade ago as a stronger, cheaper, and legal alternative to cannabis. The reality is that it’s incredibly dangerous and in no way comparable to the healing plant.
Now known to cause a physical and mental shutdown in users, Spice holds appeal for people looking to completely escape reality. In the UK, it has become popular among the homeless and prison inmates, whom it transforms into zombie-like versions of themselves. To explore the Spice crisis in working-class Manchester, MJ News correspondent Adam Capper hit the streets and spoke to professionals seeking to stem the tide of addiction as well as users who’ve experienced the devastating effects of the drug firsthand.
