Helicopter Prison Break in Canada Caught on Video
A video has emerged of two inmates Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau and Danny Provencal escaping a Canadian prison via helicopter. The footage was allegedly filmed by prison guards in Quebec in 2013 and came to light during the unrelated trial of Hudon-Barbeau. Two accomplices hired the helicopter before hijacking it and forcing the pilot by gunpoint to fly to the St. Jerome detention centre. Nik Zecevic and Kanika Lal discuss the daring escape further on the Lip News.

Travel Photography in Drumheller, Alberta
Check out all the photos from this trip over at my photography blog
This week I had the chance to get out of the house a bit and explore a part of Alberta, Canada that I haven't had the chance to shoot travel photography in before and that's the town of Drumheller. Now, the town of Drumheller itself isn't much to write home about. However, the surrounding areas are fantastic for travel photography and there is a nice variety of things to see and photograph.
Just outside of Drumheller, Canada you have all these amazing scenes to shoot. You have places like Horsethief Canyon, the Hoodoos, and of course those amazing Canadian Prairies. You also have the famous Tyrrell museum which is full of dinosaur bones and artifacts.
This trip lasted three days and we shot as many keeper images as we would somewhere in much more popular in Alberta. The cool thing about shooting photography in Drumheller is the variety. And it was that variety that made this trip such an awesome success.
This trip was also sponsored in part by Enterprise Rent-a-Car so a massive shout out to them for making that happen, and helping me pursue my passion.

Sindy Rodriguez spent more than two years behind bars for a crime she didn’t commit. If it weren’t for her steadfast attitude and the help of persistent strangers, Rodriguez would still be locked up.

Canadian Prison Riot Leaked Video
A Court of Queen's Bench judge has released a video of a 2010 riot at the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre that caused more than $350,000 in damage.
The video shows inmates throwing toilets through windows, a fire erupting and guards dressed in riot gear. It was introduced as evidence during the trial of three of the five men charged in connection with the incident.
Luke Alexander Banks, 24, was sentenced last Wednesday to 21 months consecutive to the sentence he's currently serving and Michael MacKinnon, 31, was given 15 months in jail after they were both found guilty of mischief causing damage over $5,000. Charles Wayne Ross, 28, was acquitted.
Justice Hugh McLellan released the video, which runs about three minutes, at the end of the two-day trial.
On January 9 2010, 16 inmates at the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre barricaded themselves inside a unit.
Furniture, sinks, toilets, lights, wiring and walls were all damaged and the jail was locked down for more than nine hours.
Saint John police and firefighters were on standby during the disturbance.
No one was injured.
A warrant has been issued for Terrence Keleher, who didn't show up for the trial last week.
Kayne Crothers, 27, was previously given an 18-month conditional sentence to be served in the community on house arrest due to health issues. About 153 inmates were housed at the jail on Old Black River Road during the riot.

Violated behind bars
Sexual assault allegations by inmates in Alberta correctional facilities have historically been very rare, a spokeswoman with Alberta Justice and Solicitor General said in an email. Official statistics for the federal correctional system also suggest sexual assaults are relatively uncommon within prison walls

Inside Canada's prisons
This outstanding CBC News Big Picture Special provides a thorough, straightforward portrait of how Canada deals with people who break the law: from the special handling unit where the most dangerous are held to a minimum security facility that some say is too soft; from a man who's never been in prison before to those who will spend the rest of their lives in custody; from the corrections officers who work the cell blocks to the woman who manages the entire system. Eight short documentaries make up this special and are interspersed with a forum of correctional staff, government officials and inmates who comment on and discuss the documentary content. The eight documentaries are:
1) Prison System Overview
2) First Timers
3) Women Beyond Bars
4) Guards — Correctional Officers
5) How Lifers Do The Time
6) Minimal Prisons
7) Biker Gang Members of Le Claire Institution

Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park Winter | Journey Alberta
I explore Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park in the winter! My goal for the day is to see the sunset from the viewpoint near the parking lot, but before the sunset I do the short hike along the Tiger Lily Loop. One of my favourite things about this park is that both times I've been here I've basically had the whole park to myself. It's the perfect little escape seeing as it's in between Calgary and Cochrane!
