US Marshals trying to find convicted killer who disappeared during his trial
U.S. Marshals are trying to find a convicted murderer who disappeared before the last day of his trial.
According to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, 25-year-old Rene Carrillo was free on bond while on trial for the murder of a man outside Club XTC.
Prosecutors said he got into a verbal argument with Jean Casiano-Torres inside the club in October 2017. The fight continued the parking lot, where surveillance video shows Carrillo pulling out a gun and shooting Casiano-Torres multiple times.
Carrillo appeared in court on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. But on Thursday, he was a no-show. Prosecutors learned that he cut off his ankle monitor Wednesday night and took off.
Despite his absence, jurors still convicted Carrillo. He was sentenced to life in prison.
“Carrillo killed a man he had no beef with. A person he had never met,” lead prosecutor Marissa Trevino said. “His actions show a lack of respect for life and an unwillingness to accept responsibility.”
“Although Carrillo decided to go on the run, it was important that he was held accountable. The jury did that with their verdict,” added Assistant DA Summer Elmazi.
“They were out about 15 minutes, and his punishment was assessed at 99 years in the Texas Department of Corrections Institutional Division with a fine of $10,000,” explained retired senior Judge Mike Snipes.
Carrillo's co-defendant was also out on bond. He wanted none of the marshals looking for him and turned himself in on Friday.
U.S. Marshals have issued a warrant for Carrillo, and they are actively searching for him. His last known location was in Terrell.
“We're gonna start re-interviewing family, friends and anybody that knows him. Anybody that’s associated with him,” said B.K. Nelson with the U.S. Marshals Task Force. “We're gonna be contacting them. Hopefully, they can talk him to coming back and facing what he has been sentenced with. And if he doesn't come back, we'll still be looking for him.”
Once he’s captured, Carrillo will immediately begin his life sentence. He’ll also face additional felony charges for fleeing and bail jumping.
Anyone who has information about Carrillo’s whereabouts should call 972-978-1765. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward.

LAPD Releases Bodycam Deadly Officer Involved Shooting (Graphic Content)

Authorities Wednesday identified a man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Watts after he allegedly opened fire on police.
Emilio Luis Robles, 47, of Los Angeles died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred after officers went to 113th Street near Wilmington Avenue about 11 p.m. April 30 on a call of a man with a gun, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Arriving officers were fired upon by the suspect, with the bullets striking the police vehicle, LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar said.
The officers returned fire and called for help, police said. More officers arrived and those officers also opened fire on the still armed man, Aguilar said.
The suspect had been hiding and lying near a parked car in a driveway, according to reports from the scene. No officers were injured.
8th Grade U.S. HISTORY STAAR REVIEW
For educational purposes.
I was trying really hard to keep it under 45 minutes. If it's too fast you can watch it at .75.
At .5 it sounds like an episode of drunk history.
Please note the following:
* Fundamental Orders of Connecticut was established in 1639 not 1863
* Fort Sumter was 1861 not 1865
If you see any other mistakes please let me know. Thanks and good luck on the test!
Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 30, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
House impeachment managers and President Trump’s lawyers have concluded their opening arguments in the Senate. The impeachment trial is now in the question period for both sides, when senators submit questions in writing to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. The chief justice will read questions out loud, alternating between the majority and minority for up to eight hours.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

Stop the Violence from Ferguson to Gaza: 90-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Arrested in St. Louis
- Just days after her 90th birthday, Holocaust survivor Hedy Epstein was arrested Monday in St. Louis when she was part of a protest outside Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's office. Epstein was born in Germany and left in 1939 on a Kindertransport to England. Her parents died in Auschwitz. Epstein is a co-founder of the St. Louis Palestine Solidarity Committee and St. Louis branch of Jewish Voice for Peace. In 2011, she was part of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, and was a passenger on the U.S.-flagged ship, The Audacity of Hope. Over the years she has made many solidarity trips to the West Bank. Epstein criticizes the police handling of protests in Ferguson. “It’s the same kind of violence that I’ve observed when I was in the Israeli-occupied Palestine,” Epstein says. “I know what it feels like to be discriminated against, to be oppressed, and I can’t stand idly by when I see there are problems.”

EPA and Army Propose New Waters of the United States Definition
NOTE: For captions for the first few minutes of the event please click the CC button to turn them on. Open captions begin at 2:24.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Army are proposing a clear, understandable, and implementable definition of “waters of the United States” that clarifies federal authority under the Clean Water Act. Unlike the Obama administration's 2015 definition of “waters of the United States,” the proposal contains a straightforward definition that would result in significant cost savings, protect the nation’s navigable waters, help sustain economic growth, and reduce barriers to business development.

The Constitution, the Articles, and Federalism: Crash Course US History #8
In which John Green teaches you about the United States Constitution. During and after the American Revolutionary War, the government of the new country operated under the Articles of Confederation. While these Articles got the young nation through its war with England, they weren't of much use when it came to running a country. So, the founding fathers decided try their hand at nation-building, and they created the Constitution of the United States, which you may remember as the one that says We The People at the top. John will tell you how the convention came together, some of the compromises that had to be made to pass this thing, and why it's very lucky that the framers installed a somewhat reasonable process for making changes to the thing. You'll learn about Shays' Rebellion, the Federalist Papers, the elite vs rabble dynamic of the houses of congress, and start to find out just what an anti-federalist is.

Mississippi State Penitentiary aka Parchman Farm (Crime Documentary)
Mississippi State Penitentiary (MSP), also known as Parchman Farm, is a prison farm, the oldest prison, and the only maximum security prison for men in the state of Mississippi.
Begun with four stockades in 1901, the Mississippi Department of Corrections facility was constructed largely by state prisoners. It is located on about 28 square miles (73 km2) in unincorporated Sunflower County, in the Mississippi Delta region.
It has beds for 4,840 inmates. Inmates work on the prison farm and in manufacturing workshops. It holds male offenders classified at all custody levels—A and B custody (minimum and medium security) and C and D custody (maximum security). It also houses the male death row—all male offenders sentenced to death in Mississippi are held in MSP's Unit 29—and the state execution chamber.
The superintendent of Mississippi State Penitentiary is Marshall Turner. There are two wardens, three deputy wardens, and two associate wardens.
Female prisoners are not usually assigned to MSP; Central Mississippi Correctional Facility, also the location of the female death row, is the only state prison in Mississippi designated as a place for female prisoners.
Located on fertile Mississippi Delta land, Parchman served as a working farm. Inmate labor was used for many tasks from raising cotton and other farm food products, to building railroads and extracting turpentine gum from pine trees. Parchman, then as now, was in prime cotton-growing country. Inmates labored there in the fields raising cotton, soybeans and other cash crops, and produced livestock, swine, poultry, and milk. Inmates spent much of their time working with crops except the period from mid-November to mid-February because the weather was too cold for farm work. Donald Cabana, who previously served as a superintendent and an executioner at Parchman, said that the labor situation was an advantage to the prison because inmates were occupied with it. Cabana added that idleness was an issue facing many other prisons.
Throughout MSP's history, most prisoners have worked in the fields. Historically, prisoners worked for ten hours per day, six days per week. In previous eras prisoners lived in long, single-story buildings made of bricks and lumber produced on-site; the inmate housing units were often called cages. Prison officials selected prisoners they deemed trustworthy and made them into armed guards; the prisoners were named trusty guards and trusty shooters. Most male inmates did farm labor; others worked in the brickyard, cotton gin, prison hospital, and sawmill. Women worked in the sewing room, making clothes, bed sheets, and mattresses. They also canned vegetables and ran the laundry. On Sundays, prisoners attended religious services and participated in baseball games, with teams formed on the basis of the camps.
Throughout its history, Parchman Farm had a reputation of being one of the toughest prisons in the United States. This reputation antedated the 1960s arrival of the Freedom Riders. Cabana said, A life sentence in Parchman is an eternity.
Historically most male prisoners wore ring arounds, consisting of trousers and shirts with horizontal black and white stripes. Female prisoners wore up and downs, which were baggy dresses with vertical stripes. Trustee shooters wore vertical stripes.

Female prisoners at the Parchman Post Office, c. 1930
In the 1930s, most of the crops planted at Parchman were cotton. The facility's brickyard, factories, gin, and machine shop gained the State of Mississippi profits. For most of the day, the female prisoners sewed utilitarian cloth goods, including bedding, curtains, and uniforms for the institution. When sewing labor was not available, women chopped cotton.
