As we walked through Mahon, the capital of the Balearic Island of Menorca, on June 19, 2014, the bells of the Santa Maria church in the city centre began to ring out. The bells tolled loud and long to mark the ascension of King Felipe VI to the throne of Spain.

Palace of the Counts of Puerto Hermoso
A private Palace which is unfortunately not open to visits, whose presence in the town gives it a stately feel to it.
The Catholic Kings gave Don Diego Romero 100 fanegas (a measurement of land) in 1484 on which he proceeded to build his home (Casa Grande). His grandson was to be the founder of the town known as Pizarra. This stately house was the place chosen to hold the Conference of Pizara in 1922, where the President of the country Don Antonio Maura, Sr de la Cierva and the Marquis of Cortina, along with many other famous and influencial people met to discuss the end of the hostilities in Morocco
