Jason Wooldridge Sculpture Artist
Born in 1975 Jason Wooldridge is a British artist now living in Esperance, Western Australia. Describing himself as a “Maker,’ Jason has been ‘making’ for as long as he can remember. Knowing from an early age that he would make a career in the Visual Arts, he studied at Epsom school of Art and Design before going on receive an BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design and Illustration at De Montfort University in 1996. Jason chose not to pursue a life as an illustrator, but began making and painting and selling work in South West London. To make ends meet he continued his studies to qualify a teacher of Art and Design and for many years juggled life as an artist and a Teacher. Persuaded by his wife to emigrate to Australia in 2009, Jason made the transition from Art teacher to Design and Technology teacher and was suddenly exposed to a whole new world of the workshop and quickly learnt a whole new skillset. Before long he was making forged and fabricated steel sculptures, often combing the steel with timber elements. Over that last 10 years Jason’s sculpture has developed, and his style subtly changed. Mainly concentrating on the animal kingdom with the occasional foray into human subjects, his work reflects carefully observed gesture and poise.
Jason’s strong design skills and training in the client brief driven world of Graphic Design and Illustration has meant that he has been successful in the public art arena, completing some large scale works such as the ‘Whale tail’ in Esperance in 2015.
Jason still teaches part-time while devoting some of working week to his passion for ‘Making’. He has gallery representation locally in Esperance and also in Margaret River and Singapore. Two small children and a small farmlet means time is precious, but he finds time to exhibit locally and has consistently won prizes at the Esperance Art Biennial for both his painting and sculpture.
Pam Piovezan & Roberto Souza dancing Forró in Esperance
This beautiful whale tail sculpture is located in Esperance and represents the surrounding area of outstanding natural beauty where the ocean is very important. Indeed, it is one of the most beautiful regions we have visited here in Australia. Oh, and they do get whales here in the winter time too.
We got inspired by all this beauty on our last road trip. Then, we danced!

150 whales stranded in Western Australia
A rescue operation began on Friday after 150 whales became stranded in Hamelin Bay, 315 km south of Perth in Western Australia. The mammals are believed to be short-finned pilot whales. The stranded animals were first spotted by a commercial fisherman early on Friday, but, by the end of the day, only 15 whales were still alive.
