타이완섬의 남부 지방에 있는 타이난 항구. 이곳을 통해 타이완 섬이 최초로 발견된 역사적인 곳이다. 1662년 명나라 말기에 정성공이 이 지역에 먼저 들어온 네덜란드 상인들을 쫓아내고, 타이완을 중국 역사에 편입시켰다. 현재는 네덜란드인들이 건설한 성곽 외벽과 조금 남아 당시의 흔적을 더듬어 보는 수밖에 없었다. 당시 네덜란드군을 무찌른 민족 영웅 정성공의 동상 주위로 많은 아이들이 견학하고 있었다. 정성공이 누군지는 알고 있을까? 이 지역에서는 아이들도 타이완의 탄생 역사를 확실하게 아는 듯하다. 박물관 내부로 들어서자 정성공과 네덜란드인코예트의 흉상이 나란히 있다. 타이완을 최초로 점령한 네덜란드 군인, 코예트와 그들을 쫓아내고 명나라에 편입시킨 정성공. 이방인인 두 사람이 타이완을 개척한 당시의 무기와 선박이 모형으로 진열돼 있었다. 안평고보와 함께 억재금성은 타이난의 역사를 간직한 유적이다. 이곳은 청나라 말기 일본의 침략에 저항하기 위해 만든 유럽식 성곽이다. 지금은 성곽 일부만 복원된 대포만 있다. 타이난시에 남아있는 유적이 생각보다 적었지만 타이완의 발상지에서 초기 역사를 알게 되니 타이완이 가깝고 새롭게 다가왔다.

아리산 입구다. 해발 2200미터가 되는 곳에 아리산역이 있다. 고산지대에 기차역이 있다니 놀랍다. 원래는 산 밑부터 정상까지 72킬로미터에 이르는 고산삼림열차가 다녔는데 마침 철로 보수기간이라 아리산역부터 부분운행을 하고 있다. 전에는 목재를 실어 나르던 철도였는데 이제는 관광용으로 전환해 운행한다. 내가 도착한 곳은 신목역. 이름 때문인지 사방이 울창한 삼림으로 이루어져 있어 신령스런 숲의 기운이 느껴졌다. 아름드리나무들 가운데 특히 눈에 띄는 거목들이 보인다. 나무 종류는 홍회목인데, 수령이 1,100년에 굵기가 7미터가 넘는다니 놀라웠다. 일제 강점기 때 한 일본인이 삼천년이 넘는 홍회목을 발견하고서 그 나무에 대한 존칭으로 신목이라고 불렀다고 한다. 그 후 낙뢰로 인해 그 나무는 고사되어, 사진을 찍는 장소가 됐지만 숲은 아직도 건강하게 살아있다. 신목지역을 벗어나면 자매 담이라는 연못지역, 도교 사원인 수진궁 등이 나타나 아리산의 다양한 모습을 보여준다. 숲 속에서 갖가지 형태의 괴목들은 그 세월만큼 많은 얘기를 던져 주고 있는 것 같다.

Taiwan city was also called Imperial Castle, Chihkan Fort or Anping Fort. Built in 1624 by the Dutch and completed in 1634. Its first name was Orlande City and later it was re-named as Fort Zeelandia. Because Chinese people called the Dutch the Red-hair. Therefore they called this Fort as Castle for the Red Hair. After WWⅡ, it has been called Anping Fort until now.
During the period of occupied by the Dutch, this Fort was the capital for the politics and economy. From Ming Dynasty to Cing Dynasty, Anping Fort was no longer important and the government demolished the bricks for other usage.
During the period of Japanese occupation, in order to build the dormitory for the Customs, Anping Fort had been totally destroyed. They built a square ladder-style platform at original location. In the center of the platform, they built a western-style house. That is what we know Anping Fort now.
Over three hundred years passed, today the oldest fort of Taiwan has left us remains of the semi-circular forts, remains of the city wall, watchtower, exhibition and the park for the heritage wall for us.
When the Dutch occupied Taiwan, they had built a stockade in the Anping area. In the following year, they built a castle called Orlande in the same place. In 1627, they changed the name of the castle into Provintia. In later years, the Dutch continued to expand the scale of the castle, and it was the CBD of Taiwan during the Dutch colonization. When Jheng, Cheng-gong defeated the Dutch and recovered Taiwan in 1662, he lived in Provintia and changed Taiwan into Pinganchen and the place of Chihkan into Chengtian Prefecture. The name of Taiwan City has since appeared in history.
When the Ching Government took over Taiwan during the Kangsi Reign, they moved the political center of Taiwan to Fucheng, and Taiwan City gradually lost its military value. When Shen, Bao-jhen built Eternal Golden Castle, he had demolished part of the wall of Taiwan City as materials for the former. During the Japanese Colonization, all Dutch architectures inside the fort were damaged, and the remains we see today at the museum have been restored for many times. After the restoration of Taiwan, the city renamed as the Anping Fort. N ow, we can only see the remains of the city telling us the story of Provintia some three hundred years ago.

台灣城又稱王城、赤崁城、安平城。原為荷蘭人於1624年所建，1634年（明崇禎七年）完成，初名奧倫治城，後改名熱蘭遮城，早期漢人稱荷蘭人為紅毛，所以把這座巍峨的城稱為「紅毛城」。台灣光復後，稱為「安平古堡」，沿用至今。
荷蘭時期，台灣城是統治台灣的政治及經濟中心，明鄭至清朝時期，鑑於台灣城已失去軍事價值，大量拆除城磚加以運用。
日據時期，為了建造安平海關宿舍，台灣城殘蹟被夷為平地，並在其上重建方形臺階式的磚砌高臺。臺的中央蓋起拱劵式的洋樓建築，這便是後人熟知的安平古堡。
經過三百多年的變遷，這座台灣地區最古老的城堡，今天呈現在世人面前的有：城壁遺跡、磚砌平台、陳列館、瞭望台和古壁史蹟公園。
城壁遺跡：外城南壁在今台南市永漢民藝館旁，高三丈餘，城壁是用糯米汁、糖水、蚵灰殼和成泥，以紅磚砌成。紅磚色深者，是荷據時代由印尼、爪哇運來的；色淺較紅者，是後來明鄭時代增建時，自福建廈門運來的。城壁的上端仍留有剪刀形的壁鎖凹痕，是鎖樑柱用的，防地震；方形的洞口則是清軍築營房時挖的，用來放柱子。

ETERNAL GOLDEN CASTLE (ERKUNSHEN FORTRESS)
As Shen, Bao-heng had put a tablet read Yizaijincheng (Eternal Golden Castle) on the entrance of the fortress, people thus called it Eternal Golden Castle.
Built during the Guangsui Reign in Ching Dynasty due to the Mudanshe Incident, Shen, Bao-heng was assigned to take charge of the defensive affairs of Taiwan. When Shen arrived in Anping, he immediately surveyed the geographic condition of the area. Erkunshen Fortress Then, he decided to build a big fortress there to safeguard Fucheng. So, he hired the French architect Bordeaux to design a fortress for defending against Japanese invasion from the sea. The first Western style fortress was completed in 1876. Shen thus wrote eight characters read Yizaijincheng and Wanliudichu which turned out to be the tablets on the fortress. The fortress had since become the protector of Taiwan.
During the office of Shen, the fortress remained unused. Yet, just before Taiwan was ceded to Japan, cannons on the fortress had fired twice to defend invasions of foreign races.The Eternal Golden Castle is also Taiwan's first fortress equipped with British Armstrong cannons.

Introduce
A combined Dutch military and commercial force captured modern day Anping in 1624, and built Fort Zeelandia(熱蘭遮城) as its defensive stronghold, which was completed in 1634. In 1662, Koxinga successfully took the Dutch fort back, and changed the name to Anping. The inner fort became the seat of government for Taiwan, and so it was known by Taiwanese as King's Fort. During the Qing Dynasty, excessive silting of the Taijiang shore gradually reduced the fort's importance, and it was neglected after being damaged by Qing soldiers who took building materials for the building of Eternal Golden Castle. The fort was rebuilt after the Japanese Colonial Period, and renamed Anping Old Fort (安平古堡) after World War II. Today the only remnant of the Dutch period is the southern brick wall outside the front gate of the Old Fort, covered in the tangled roots of old banyan trees, evidence of the nearly 400 years of Taijiang's history. In 1975, as part of the Tainan City Government's sightseeing year project, Anping Old Fort was repaired and its grounds extended. A pointed roof was also added to the observation tower, and the wall was painted white; that is the Anping Old Fort that we see today.
