Sixteen Ethiopian football players, who were reported missing on Tuesday
(21/1), turned up at Rome's police headquarters on Wednesday (22/1) asking for political asylum.
The national soccer team members disappeared while on a stopover in Rome en route to an African Nations Cup game against Morocco. The team, which arrived in Rome from Ethiopia on Monday, was set to fly to Morocco early on Tuesday. However no one checked in at the airport.
Sixteen left their suburban hotel with luggage and passports in the early hours.
