A Tour of Ethiopia's Amazing Landscapes
Ethiopia is a tourist destination like no other. You feel like you’re one of the first ones there. Like you are traveling back in time. Everything is unique and things are done very differently that one might ask, “Am I still on Earth?” Lol.
Don’t take Ethiopia lightly because its profound history will make you question about yourself too. And after you’ve been there, you will not return the same person.

'Green highlands, barren deserts, impassable lowlands, sparkling waterfalls, glistening lakes, bustling towns. We can’t describe Ethiopia with one word, unless we reach for ‘diversity’.
‘Ethiopia’ takes you on a journey off the beaten track through Northern lands of the country. It offers you a glimpse into the life of Amharic people living in the highlands, a chance to take part in important religious celebrations of Meskel, and a visit through a myriad of majestic Ethiopian landscapes, varying from the hottest desolate reds of Danakil Depression, to tremendous Blue Nile Falls, to the colourful mixture of cultures that you can find in the country’s capital, Addis Ababa.
Although the film is our personal tribute to this unique and vast country, it was impossible to include all that Ethiopia comprises of. We have yet to visit the South, East and West of Ethiopia. For more information about the places featured in the film, head to the article on our website:

We are of course aware that Ethiopia consists of Muslim population, and other religions, but unfortunately we didn't have enough time and funds to represent the whole cultural, religious and natural landscape of Ethiopia.
In our description and in our understanding the word 'diverse' applies mainly to Ethiopian geography ('Green highlands, barren deserts, impassable lowlands, sparkling waterfalls, glistening lakes, bustling towns. We can’t describe Ethiopia with one word, unless we reach for ‘diversity’ '), and in our opinion Ethiopia is very diverse in that sense, especially in comparison to the countries we come from.'

Abyssinia (Ethiopia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Abyssinia in Ethiopia.
Abyssinia is a mysterious country located in the mountains of Africa which today is known as Ethiopia, the cradle of early Christianity and a unique land of biblical stories and myths. Historic Aksum, in northern Ethiopia, was once the capital of a powerful kingdom. On the site of two previous religious buildings, its ancient cathedral was rebuilt in 1665. Thrones constructed of stone have witnessed the coronation of various monarchs whose Ethiopian Orthodox faith, from the fifth century, spread far and wide. From the Eastern Roman Empire, fleeing missionaries known as Monophysites introduced the ancient Christian faith which taught that Christ had only one divine nature. Eventually the concept of a division of faith came into being and Ethiopian Christianity developed independently and Aksum became a sacred city. Aksum is also referred to as ‘Ethiopian Rome’ and is the capital of the oldest Christian kingdom in the world, the largest outside the Roman Empire. In the north, the large water basins of May Shum are known as The Baths Of The Queen Of Saba. They date back to Aksumitic times and have been frequently renovated. A huge cistern supplies much of the population with water and on a hill above the town are the underground grave chambers of King Kaleb and Gebre Masqal. Although little remains of the former capital of the Aksumitic kingdom, Ethiopia's holiest site, it continues to be a place of mystique and legend. Dawit The Third, a son of Emperor Iyasu, had his palace built in the north of Fasil Ghebbi, protected by a nine hundred metre long wall. The large ballroom was known as Singer Hall because within it contests were held that featured wandering minstrels, and Dawit played the harp. Today, the lion cages are empty but Hailie Selassie, the last emperor of Ethiopia, possessed one as a symbol of his origin as having been from the Tribe of Judah. Without a doubt, Gondar will forever evoke a special kind of nostalgia and a rich sense of history.

It is even rumoured to be the legendary home of the Queen of Sheba and the lost Ark of the Covenant. It was once a vast empire stretching into what is now Somalia, Eritrea and Djibouti, ruled by emperors claiming direct descent from King Solomon. And don’t forget the otherworldly beauty of the Danakil Depression which, created at the point where three tectonic plates collide, is Africa’s lowest point and one of the world’s hottest environments, making it a treasure trove for scientific research.

Antoinette RootsDawtah ~ My Pilgrimage to Lalibela, Ethiopia 2018
International Artist & Spiritual Minister Antoinette RootsDawtah reflects on her trip to Ethiopia to participate in U Day 2018 and to reminisce on her amazing pilgrimage to Lalibela to visit the historical churches that she had only dreamed of experiencing.
The Church of St. George (featured in this video) is one of eleven rock-hewn monolithic churches in Lalibela, a city in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Originally named Roha (Warwar), the historical and religious site was named Lalibela after the King Gebre Mesqel Lalibela of the Zagwe dynasty, who commissioned its construction. He is regarded as a saint by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
The church was carved from a type of volcanic tuff. This is the sole architectural material that was used in the structure. It has been dated to the late 12th or early 13th century AD, and thought to have been constructed during the reign of King Gebre Mesqel Lalibela, of the late Zagwe dynasty. It is among the best known and last built of the eleven churches in the Lalibela area, and has been referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Lalibela, King of Ethiopia, sought to recreate Jerusalem, and structured the churches' landscape and religious sites in such a way as to achieve such a feat.
The churches at Lalibela are clustered in two major groups, one representing the earthly Jerusalem, and the other representing the heavenly Jerusalem. Located directly between them is a trench representing the River Jordan. The dimensions of the trench are 25 meters by 25 meters by 30 meters, and there is a small baptismal pool outside the church, which stands in an artificial trench.
According to Ethiopian cultural history, Bete Giyorgis was built after King Gebre Mesqel Lalibela of the Zagwe dynasty had a vision in which he was instructed to construct the church; Saint George and God have both been referred to as the ones who gave him the instructions.
Lalibela is a pilgrimage site for members of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and other devoted Followers of Christ from around the world.
Much love and gratitude to our Big Brother Ben Bowler for providing the opportunity to make this dream a Reality!!!!!

Ethiopia Tours Video
Ethiopia Tours Video - Wade through incense into a medieval world hewn from stone in Lalibela, and watch the line between past and present blur while taking part in striking Christian ceremonies that haven't changed in 1000 years. Ethiopia's storied and sovereign history has left its wide-ranging and fertile highlands laden with historical treasures, ranging from the ancient tombs and obelisks of Aksum to 17th-century castles and burnt-out Russian tanks. Many are more than a peek into the nation's past; they are a giant two-footed leap. Ethiopia's landscapes are no less dramatic, and range from the Simien Mountains National Park and Bale Mountains National Park, which proffer tremendous trekking and innumerable interactions with dozens of animals and birds seen nowhere else on earth, to the Danakil Depression in Northern Ethiopia, an enchanting and unforgivingly hostile environment offering extreme adventure. The remote lowlands in the sultry southwest are also home to untold adventures and house some of Africa's most fascinating tribes.
Testing, awe-inspiring and heartbreaking -- a journey you'll never forget. You don't explore Ethiopia for a relaxing getaway, you venture here to be moved. And moved you shall be.
Although it's anything but desert wasteland or a perpetual home of famine and war, Ethiopia is monetarily poor and travel here is tough, both physically and mentally. However, those willing to take some doses of displeasure with Ethiopia's bounty of treasure will be pleasantly rewarded.
