Poland: Part 2, Vistula Ethnographic Park, Lipowiec Castle
The Lipowiec Castle ... the castle was erected at the end of the 13th century by the bishop John Muskata. Throughout five consecutive centuries the castle was the property of Krakow bishops. At first it served for defensive and protective purposes of a merchant route.
Until the end of the 16th century it had been a prison for people under servitude of Krakow bishops and became a reformatory house for clergymen in the following years. The exceptional character of the castle is emphasized by a 28 meter tall (around 68 feet) tower, which had been the core part of the castle.
Until the 19th century the roof and the interior of the castle had been destroyed by fire as many as three times. From 1850 the castle had been looted by nearby inhabitants and treasure hunters that eventually lead to the destruction of the castle.
In the 1960's conservation works were undertaken to secure the ruins. The castle has become a part of an open air Museum in Chrzanów. Now the castle serves as a venue for numerous events related to its history and medieval times throughout the whole year.

20 Things to do in Kraków, Poland Travel Guide video transcript:
We kicked off this trip to Poland with a visit to Krakow, a city people have been telling us to visit for years and now we know why. Krakow in the summertime was wonderful! We spent our time enjoying castle views from the river side, exploring neighbourhoods covered in street art, eating some of the best pierogie of our lives, and also discovering what we think may be the best ice cream. The following is our travel guide to some of the best things to do in Krakow!
Wawel Castle is Krakow's crowning jewel, and for centuries it was the residence of the kings of Poland. You can see a mix of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque architecture all in one place.
While in the city, we also had to walk the Royal Route, which was once the historic coronation path of Polish kings.
After visiting the basilica, we spent a bit of time walking the Main Square, which just so happens to be Europe's largest medieval town square.
And that’s it for our visit to Krakow! We hope this video gave you a few ideas of things to do around the city. If you have any other places to add to this list or any tips for fellow travellers visiting Krakow feel free to share those.
This is part of our Travel in Poland video series showcasing Polish food, Polish culture, Polish cuisine while visiting Kraków Polska.

STORYLINE:
Some 1,400 Afghan ethnographic and archaeological objects, preserved since 1999 in Switzerland were handed over to the National Museum of Afghanistan in Kabul on Friday.
For the past six years the Swiss town of Bubendorf, located near Basel, has been home to the Afghanistan Museum-in-Exile.
Under an agreement with UNESCO, the museum, established by the Foundation Bibliotheca Afghanica, a Swiss foundation created in 1975 as a centre of documentation on Afghanistan, has received more than 1,300 Afghan cultural objects from private donors and established a complete inventory by dedicated volunteer specialists.
Paul Bucherer Dietschi, Director of the Foundation Bibliotheca Afghanica, presented some of the highlights from the collection to journalists on Friday.
Amongst the objects handed over were a statue believed to represent Paritas, the fighting dog of Alexander the Great and part of the foundation stone of Ikhanum.
