Snowdrop Trail in Evenley Wood Garden - February
We enjoyed a walk and got the camera out to explore the 5 different snowdrops on the snowdrop trail at Evenley Wood Garden near Brackley, with hot chocolates at the Pavilion cafe afterwards. The cyclamen were also out although the crocuses and daffodils will be a few weeks yet.

Our visit was in June this year (2015) and we spent a good 5 hours there. Fully recommended to anyone that visits the Norfolk Broads and wants to leave their boat for a pleasurable and leisurely stroll in beautiful, quiet surroundings.

How to Install Artificial Grass DIY guide
Watch Firstforturf Artificial Grass installation here:
youtube.com/watch?v=ri353wkhlng
A step by step guide on how to install artificial grass brought to you by Firstforturf, the number one supplier of artificial grass in the UK. This video shows a typical installation process for artificial grass on an existing clay based soil. Synthetic Grass installation process was carried out by installers of Synthetic Grass Solutions Ltd in Scotland (sgsgrass.co.uk). Due to the wet nature of soil within this particular garden the team installed drainage channels and soak-aways to help elevate drainage issues. The video demonstrates the basic steps to completing an artificial grass lawn. 1) Remove existing grass and sub soil 2) Cover area with anti weed membrane 3) On Sub base lay approximately 50 – 70mm of type 1 stone and compact using whacker plate 4) Lay approximately 25mm of sharp sand/red granite sand & screed surface to ensure level surface 5) Edge the perimeter using tantalised timber battens or block edging 6) Compact sand using wacker plate and screed once more 7) Cut grass and unroll into position 8) To complete join fold back the joining edges and trim 9) Create a “dry” join by positioning the two pieces of artificial grass together 10) Once happy with the positioning of grass, fold back the joining edges and unroll the joining tape 11) Apply Aqua bond Adhesive along the length of the joining tape 12) Carefully work your way down the seam, joining the two pieces together 13) Carefully cut the grass in against the surrounding area 14) Attach grass to frame using galvanised screws 15) Evenly spread and brush kiln dried sand into grass

360 Birds and Gardens - Winter 2020
Techie stuff:
I was able to get this result at a manageable filesize. Thanks to everyone who helped and advised! :) It's originally filmed at 5k at 200mbps using the new H265 format, or HVEC and the logo on the ground is rendered in about 3.5 hours at 200mbps using the Insta360 Studio. I then used Premier Pro to edit out passing vehicles, slowing down to 70%, and amplifying the audio while maintaining the pitch. It was rendered again using the same H265 codec at 60Mbps. The result is a 2.1Gb file with acceptable quality.
Bird and Garden stuff:
Lots of northern cardinal activity! There's also nuthatches, woodpeckers, blue jays, wrens, white-throated sparrows, dark-eyed juncos, chickadees, tufted titmice, and probably some others. The garden is not all that interesting right now, but I'll take it for it being all perennial. We'll see how it does! After using a 360 camera, I see that I'll be touching up the front of the house. The feeders and perches will be moved closer together for the next video. I'll be sure to wait to shoot video in the afternoon next time so the area is evenly lit and see how it turns out.
Bompas & Parr creates world's first non-melting ice lolly
Food design studio Bompas & Parr has invented the world's first non-melting ice lolly, inspired by a frozen composite material pioneered during the second world war.
While the ice lolly does eventually melt, unlike a conventional lolly, the invention is capable of staying intact for an hour in 24 degree heat.
According to the London-based studio, the long-lasting lollies were designed with global warming in mind, driven by the increasing desire for frozen treats to keep us cool as temperatures rise.
Bompas & Parr adapted an old recipe for super-strength ice, which was developed by English inventor Geoffrey Pyke during the second world war to help the armed forces.
The composite material was made from a combination of sawdust and wood pulp evenly dispersed in water, and then frozen. The resulting substance is remarkably strong.

How To Compost In A Small Space
Reserve the One Top:
Here is what you'll need!
What Can I Compost?
Greens vs browns (nitrogen-rich and carbon-rich)
-
-
Want 4xs more of browns as you have greens (especially if you want your compost to be quick proportions are extremely important)
A list of 100 things you can compost broken down by room
DIY indoor bin
Facts
Scraps can be stored in the fridge/freezer in a plastic bag or a food scrap pail
Can use an old coffee container or 4-5 gallon bucket from your local hardware store
To keep flies/gnats out line with newspaper
Composting in small areas
Can take anywhere from 20 days to 3 months if done correctly
When we throw away organic matter like food waste it decomposes anaerobically (w/o oxygen) → creates methane, a greenhouse gas that is 20-35 times more potent than carbon dioxide at warming our planet! (I can picture a cute but sad earth heating up animation here)
According to the EPA landfills are the United States; third largest source of methane emissions.
Finished compost is great for the soil and increases its fertility adding macronutrients and micronutrients.
Anything that was once live or made from a living thing can be composted as long as all items are natural components.
The smaller you chop/shred items for your compost pile the the faster and more evenly they will decompose.
mix/aerate weekly
Don’t compost
Meat or meat waste like bones, fat, gristle, skin
Fish or fish waste
Dairy products like cheese, butter, cottage cheese, yogurt, cream cheese, sour cream
Grease, oils, fats
^^create an imbalance of the nutrient rich foods and vegetation waste and breakdown slowly. They also attract rodents and other scavenging animals
Meat attracts maggots
And your bin will smell like shit.

Floristry Tutorial | Ivy & White Roses Urn Design
You can help Astar's Place by supporting me on Patreon!
Design request for the entrance to a church plus door way. This design has been requested by Stephanie from England who is getting married shortly and she wants open type topiary placed on rust coloured urns to be placed on either side of the Church doors then used as the entrance of her reception.
I found similar shaped and sized urns in a rust colour, along with metal-work orbs which will work really well for this concept.
I’m using artificial ivy along with white roses and gyp to follow through with the story.
Basically, you wrap the wire orb with ivy, and fix in place with either wire or cable ties, then tie or wire little bundles of roses and gyp evenly down amongst ivy.
Super easy to createand so grand looking!
