Discover the spring-fed limestone ponds at the Ewens Ponds Conservation Park by snorkelling along the shallow channels or scuba diving into the ponds.
The channels connect three basin-shaped ponds which are approximately 10 metres deep. The clarity of the water enables plants to grow underwater to a depth of about six metres. Some of these plants are not found growing fully submerged underwater anywhere else in the world.

2018 KIAS outdoor ed class went to Ewens ponds for the day to snorkel down the ponds. Reef to Ridge from Mount Gambier ran the tour. It was an awesome snorkel and would recommend for anyone!

Ewens Ponds is a series of three water-filled limestone sinkholes on Eight Mile Creek 25 kilometres (16 mi) south of Mount Gambier and 8.4 kilometres (5.2 mi) east of Port Macdonnell, South Australia. The ponds are popular with recreational divers due to underwater visibility of up to 80 metres (260 ft).[verification needed] It has a large fish population including the endangered golden pygmy perch. Ewens Ponds has been part of the Ewens Ponds Conservation Park since 1976.

This is a delicate environment. This footage shows one of us accidentally touching the bottom, and you can see the level of disturbance it has caused. We have elected to show this to demonstrate to people how fragile these environments are - please stay well clear of the bottom at all times. Don't touch anything! We have always tried our hardest to be careful yet we still made a mistake unfortunately. Please learn from our mistakes!
The Port Adelaide Freediving Club does not endorse diving at this site in a way that contradicts the current restrictions, and we support the conservation measures being taken at Ewen's Ponds.

Our South Australia Spearfishing and Freediving Trip 2018
We planned a small trip to South Australia from Victoria.
Ibi, Thomas, Trung, Jun, Jon and Calvin had an awesome 3 day trip. We visited Port Macdonnell, Mount Gambier and Ewens Ponds.
Weather was not ideal for diving in the ocean, but we still had a great weekend away.

A dive showing the underwater growth found in one of the sites where the fresh underground water that we cave dive in bubbles up and flows down 8 Mile Creek to the ocean. All life in this pond is unique and protected. Recently the creek has had a outbreak of algae due to fertilizer finding its way into the creek.

South Australia's Ewens Ponds may be chilly, but these limestone sink holes make for excellent diving.
Ewens Ponds is a group of three water-filled sink holes, just south of Mt Gambier on South Australia's Limestone Coast.
The ponds, along Eight Mile Creek, are connected by shallow channels that you can swim through to enter each pond.
On average, they're no more than 10m deep, so it makes for some great shallow diving, albeit cold. The water temperature hover between 10-15°C, so bring your wetsuit!
The freshwater ponds are part of the Ewens Ponds Conservation Park and are clear enough to see the likes of resident pygmy perch, freshwater crayfish andshort-finned eels.
The sunlight can reach to 6m below the water surface, giving energy for the many plants, which give the impresion of diving through an underwtaer garden.

Port MacDonnell Short Film
My latest project is a short film titled Port MacDonnell. This clip consists of various aerial footage of the breathtaking coastline, and showcases the beauty of the beach town. Port MacDonnell is located Southeast from Adelaide, and the regional town is Australia's Southern Rock Lobster capital - which attracts large amounts of tourists from all over the world.

Port MacDonnell Offshore Sealife
Dolphins, birds, seals, and bait-fish offshore at Port Macdonnell, South Australia. Kayak fishing can open up some amazing experiences.
Looking for Southern Blue-fin Tuna, we spotted a bust-up (birds) about 16ks offshore. Closing in on the bust-up we were greeted by a dolphin escort. Disappointed to find the bust-up devoid of tuna, but made the most of the experience and got some footage while we were at it.
