Not your average cafe ~ XCHC ~ Christchurch NZ
Exchange Christchurch (or XCHC) is a place for creative practitioners to create, showcase, and share their creative work. We don't curate, just support. People need places that allow and enable them to express themselves alongside a like-minded and supportive community. Here, anything goes, and it changes every day.
As a not-for-profit, all of our revenue goes back into supporting the creative community to develop their work and make our city the most diverse, and creative it can be.
Thanks to Watch This Space, Street Wise, The Rad Collective, and everyone who's been involved in getting this started.. it's only the beginning.
Everybody Eats | Everybody Helps ~ Feeding street whānau @ Exchange Christchurch (XCHC)
Inspired by the Everybody Eats movement in Auckland, we decided to partner with local charity Street Wise and host a potluck to give everyone in our community to gather and connect over food and participate in breaking down stigmas of mental health, homelessness and addiction.
We organized free haircuts & coffee, a street art exhibition, 3 guest speakers, bikes to give away, and so much more. Think things like this should be normal? Contribute to our cause so we can continue to do it:

And in keeping with the spirit of Exchange, we are prototyping our café and bar fit out using digital fabrication technologies which one of our tenants, Fab Lab Xchc will be producing along side industrial designer and design lead for this project, Justin Hughes.

Is having a strong, independent media an essential part of a functioning democracy?
What is the role of the 'Fourth Estate' in today's world? Are the media doing a good job of keeping citizens informed?
In recent years the media landscape has been dramatically altered by the explosion of digital publishing, radical shifts in where advertising dollars are spent, and a funding freeze on public broadcasting, amongst other things. There is a growing sense that balanced public interest media and journalism may be at risk.
ActionStation and the Coalition for Better Broadcasting have joined forces with a diverse group of six industry experts to run a crowdfunded public inquiry into the current state, and future prospects, of public interest broadcasting and media in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The panelists will travel the country holding collaborative workshops with the public and other media experts before compiling a report on the state of public broadcasting and media, with a short list of recommendations for how it can be improved, to present to the Government before Budget Day on May 25th.
