Kaliningrad is the capital of the Russian province of the same name, sandwiched between Poland and Lithuania along the Baltic Coast. Dubbed Königsberg during centuries of Prussian rule, the city was largely reconstructed after WWII.
Traces of its German heritage can be seen in the surviving Brandenburg Gate and the Riverside Fishing Village, a dining and shopping destination with re-created medieval-style buildings.

I had the opportunity to visit Kaliningrad for a long weekend, and my word what a place! It's notoriously quite time consuming from a British perspective to get a Russian visa, but there's an exception for overland travel to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad whereby you can get issues a 72hour tourist visa. I used a recomended Travel agent, Uni-tours.ru for the application who were very helpful and went beyond to help me get my visa.

Starts and ends at Hotel Kaiserhof (luxory hotel with Spa). Walking tour was around 15km. (GPS did not track the whole walk).
This was my 2nd trip to Kaliningrad (Former in 2007).

Tämä oli minulle toinen käyntikerta kaupungissa jossa aika harva on kuitenkaan käynyt. Kyseessä oli lomamatka ja yksi harvoista suomalaisista ryhmistä Kaliningradissa tänä vuonna. Kaliningrad ei jostain syystä tunnu olevan mikään hittikohde.

Premium-quality furnishing, spacious clean and comfortable room. This is a little castle. Cook of great talent served very delicate meals. Very nice and helpful staff, arranged airport transfer and an excursion at short notice.
Perfect place to relax and discover Kaliningrad. All the staff was really kind.

A little bit far from the city center (but bus and minibus stop is nearby, and taxi is not expenisve).
Ground level apartment has one tiny window... It is impossible to wake up... You are lost in time. Have to check always your watches.
