Our visit Bishkek travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums and the city by day. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical Bishkek tourism brochure or Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan city tour.
15 things to do in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Greetings from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan! Hello from Central Asia. It is our first time here and we are going to be spending a few days here in the capital. So we're going to take you on a little tour and show you fifteen things to do around Bishkek.
First up, we visited Ala-Too Square, which is the central plaza in Bishkek. While there isn’t much to do here, it’s one of the city’s major landmarks, plus they also have lots of benches and water fountains where you can take a quick break. From there, we crossed the street and made our way over to the State Historical Museum.
Another place you’ll want to visit in Bishkek is the Osh Bazaar. It may not be the biggest in Central Asia, but it’s a bustling maze where you could easily spend a few hours. We had no problems at the market, but we were warned by several locals to ignore the fake police who may ask to see documents and camera permits. So keep that in mind if you encounter them!
It is shopping time. Next up we're at the Osh bazaar and you can find everything here. We're seen fresh produce, snacks, chocolates, clothes. Right behind me we have an entire aisle dedicated to dry cheese balls.
Directly across from the abandoned casino, you’ll find Victory monument which was built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of World War 2. The three curved arcs represent a yurt, and the sculpture of a woman standing near the eternal flame is meant to symbolize her waiting for her husband and sons to return from the war.
We missed the start of opera and ballet season by just a few days, however, if you’re in the city at the right time.
And if you’re craving a short escape from Bishkek, you can always plan a day hike to the nearby mountains with the Trekking Union.
As far as food goes, there’s plenty to sample ranging from grilled meats to dumplings, and noodles to mixed rice, plus there was one drink that really left an impression on us.
With our time in Bishkek winding down, we made a visit to Oak Park which is full of sculptures, and then we also visited nearby Panfilov Park.
And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bishkek. As you can probably tell from this video, this city is the kind of place that you experience as opposed to ticking off attractions, so it ended up being a fairly relaxing trip after a few busy weeks of travel around Kyrgyzstan. As always, if you have any suggestions of things to do in Bishkek, feel free to share your tips with fellow travellers in the comments section below. See you next time!

Things to do in Kyrgyzstan Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Hey guys we're in Kyrgyzstan. Yeah, new country for both of us so that is pretty exciting. First time in Central Asia so we are stoked to be here. Yeah and over the next few days we are going to be horse-trekking in Song Köl so we're going to take you along but before we get there we're making a little stop. First up Burana Tower right here. So we're going to climb to the top. Are you ready? Yes.
Greetings from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan! Hello from Central Asia. It is our first time here and we are going to be spending a few days here in the capital. So we're going to take you on a little tour and show you fifteen things to do around Bishkek (Бишкек). It should be fun.
And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bishkek (Бишкек). As you can probably tell from this video, this city is the kind of place that you experience as opposed to ticking off attractions, so it ended up being a fairly relaxing trip after a few busy weeks of travel around Kyrgyzstan (Кыргызстан - Киргизия). As always, if you have any suggestions of things to do in Bishkek, feel free to share your tips with fellow travellers in the comments section below. See you next time!
Hey guys we're at the World Nomad Games (Дүйнөлүк көчмөндөр оюндары) in Kyrgyzstan (Кыргызстан) and this is basically like the Olympics for Nomadic Games and Culture.
So we're going to show you around. We're going to be hear for several days but first the Opening Night Ceremony.
The following morning we went up to the jailoo, also known as the pasture, where they had set up a folk village so visitors could wander around and learn about Kyrgyz culture. After catching the opening dance, we set out to visit the various camps, each showcasing a different region.
So it is lunchtime here in Bishkek (Бишкек), Kyrgyzstan (Киргизия) and today we are going to be having a feast. We are going to be sampling all of the traditional dishes that we've been eating over the last three weeks because that is how long we've been traveling in the country. So we're ordering a big spread. This is probably enough food for like five or six people but Sam and I are going to try and eat it all and just showcase what Central Asian cuisine is all about. So we hope you enjoy.
Good morning from Kyrgyzstan (Кыргызстан). It is time for a day trip because we've been spending a lot of time at the World Nomad Games and it is time to get out and get to know the country a little bit. So we're taking a day trip to Karakol (Каракол). We're going to be doing some hiking, visiting waterfalls.
Well good morning. It is Saturday here in Bishkek (Бишкéк) and it is our last day in the city so we figured why not get out of the city get close to nature.
So it is time for another apartment tour. Right now we're in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. We've been traveling around the country for three weeks and we've spent ten of those days here in the capital.
Brought to you by &

Pearl's of Era Stalins Architectural Projects
The Bolsheviks moved the capital to Moscow in 1918 and decided to transform it into the Model Communist Capital.
As a result, the 1930-s and 1940-s saw huge changes in the architecture of Moscow.
On this 4 and a half hour tour you have a unique opportunity to explore Stalin's 'people's palaces' -- which are, both the buildings which tower above the city and the stunning metro stations under the city streets.
We visit the first metro stations, which were constructed before the second world war.
You have a unique opportunity to explore inside the world famous Moscow State University building, where from the 28th floor you can enjoy splendid panoramic view of Moscow, and on the 32nd floor, see the red star in the dome of the Moscow State University building, constructed from the same ruby as the stars which top the Kremlin towers.
If architecture is your thing, then this tour is for you!

The Meskhetian Turks are a group of AhiskaTurk's who have historically lived in the Meskheti region (pronounced Massagetae) Ahiska went down in history under the name of the tribe of Saks,Massagets (or Ak-sака) White Saka,White Huns. The ancient Altai,Tibet.
Ahiska located of the Kura-Aras River Basin ,on border of Turkey and Georgia. The results of the invading the land of the Meskhetia (Ak-sака Massagetae) In 330 BC Persians captured this area. Ethnic Turkish populated the area, and in between conquests, it was a province of the Atabegs. In 1828, during the Russo-Turkish Wars of 1877--1878 and 1828-1829, the region was included into the Russian Empire.
As it is well known from the historiography, World War I peace settlement of the Georgian and Armenian claims, the Ahiska Meskhetia had become part of the Georgia. On November 14, 1944 Under the dictatorship of Joseph Stalin, who ruled the Soviet Union the entire Ahiska (Meskhetian) Turks people deported to Central Asia.
That period, during the middle of winter, almost 130,000 men, women and children were loaded into cattle cars and shipped to various locations, thousands of kilometers away. The victims were only allowed to take three days' worth of rations and spent a horrifying two or three months on the road. Thousands died every day and the bodies were simply tossed out of the cars at every railroad station. Many Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's had in fact fought on the front lines of the Soviet war against the German aggressor.Thousands of Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's died on the field of battle, with many becoming war heroes. In 1944, the Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's stood accused of cooperating with the Fascist.
Beginning with the second half of the 60s, the Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's demanded to return to their own motherland. In the second half of the 80s, this movement had extended and had taken a mass character.
In June 1989,A mob of Uzbeks attacked a Meskhetian Turk in the Fergana, Uzbekistan. In many areas there were small and large scale massacres and violence towards the Meskhetian Turks people. Many Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's then moved to Azerbaijan,Kazakhstan, Russian Federation and Kyrgyzstan. Krasnodar area in south Russia - where Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's lived after fleeing Uzbekistan in 1989, became a hotbed of ethnic discrimination.
In 2004, immigration to the United States within the special resettlement programme for the Meskhetians became a major factor affecting the state of Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's in Krasnodar Krai. The programme covered the Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's who lived in Krasnodar Krai without residence registration, allowed them to apply for refugee status and to get a package of social benefits on their resettlement to the U.S.
On April 19, 2010, violence erupted in Mayevka, a village near Bishkek, the minority Ahiska Meskhetian Turk's,have been attacked by Kyrgyz mobs, large-scale arson, looting and violence, claimed at least five lives and left 298 were severely injured.

Kazakhstan[b] (Kazakh: Қазақстан, translit. Qazaqstan, IPA: [qɑzɑqˈstɑn] (About this sound listen); Russian: Казахстан, IPA: [kəzɐxˈstan]), officially the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazakh: Қазақстан Республикасы, translit. Qazaqstan Respýblıkasy; Russian: Республика Казахстан, tr. Respublika Kazakhstan),[4][13] is the world's largest landlocked country, and the ninth largest in the world, with an area of 2,724,900 square kilometres (1,052,100 sq mi).[4][14] Kazakhstan is the dominant nation of Central Asia economically, generating 60% of the region's GDP, primarily through its oil/gas industry. It also has vast mineral resources.[15] Some argue that Kazakhstan may be considered a European country because Kazakhstan's Western region is on the European continent and meets the Council of Europe's criteria for European inclusion.[16]
Kazakhstan is officially a democratic, secular, unitary, constitutional republic with a diverse cultural heritage.[17] Kazakhstan shares borders with Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, and also adjoins a large part of the Caspian Sea. The terrain of Kazakhstan includes flatlands, steppe, taiga, rock canyons, hills, deltas, snow-capped mountains, and deserts. Kazakhstan has an estimated 18 million people as of 2014.[18] Given its large land area, its population density is among the lowest, at less than 6 people per square kilometre (15 people per sq mi). The capital is Astana, where it was moved in 1997 from Almaty, the country's largest city.
The territory of Kazakhstan has historically been inhabited by Turkic nomads who trace their ancestry to many Turkic states such as Turkic Khaganate etc. In the 13th century, the territory joined the Mongolian Empire under Genghis Khan. By the 16th century, the Kazakh emerged as a distinct group, divided into three jüz (ancestor branches occupying specific territories). The Russians began advancing into the Kazakh steppe in the 18th century, and by the mid-19th century, they nominally ruled all of Kazakhstan as part of the Russian Empire. Following the 1917 Russian Revolution, and subsequent civil war, the territory of Kazakhstan was reorganised several times. In 1936, it was made the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, part of the Soviet Union.
Kazakhstan was the last of the Soviet republics to declare independence during the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The current President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has been leader of the country since then, and is characterised as authoritarian, with a government history of human rights abuses and suppression of political opposition.[15] Kazakhstan has worked to develop its economy, especially its dominant hydrocarbon industry.[15] Human Rights Watch says that Kazakhstan heavily restricts freedom of assembly, speech, and religion,[19] and other human rights organisations regularly describe Kazakhstan's human rights situation as poor.
Kazakhstan's 131 ethnicities include Kazakhs (63% of the population), Russians, Uzbeks, Ukrainians, Germans, Tatars, and Uyghurs.[20] Islam is the religion of about 70% of the population, with Christianity practised by 26%.[21] Kazakhstan officially allows freedom of religion, but religious leaders who oppose the government are suppressed.[22] The Kazakh language is the state language, and Russian has equal official status for all levels of administrative and institutional purposes.[4][23] Kazakhstan is a member of the United Nations, WTO, CIS, the Eurasian Economic Union, CSTO, SCO, OSCE, OIC, and TURKSOY.(wiki)

Architectural landmarks are under threat across the post-Soviet space, from 18th-century houses to Constructivist creations to grand Stalinist buildings, as well as great works of the 1970s. The cityscapes of the post-Soviet space are taking on a 'Disneyland Quality' mostly due to the practice of replacing historical buildings with modern structures built in concrete and disguised by a mock facade in a quasi-historical style. There is an urgent need to look at the historical causes of this situation and to explore new impulses that can divert this unfortunate direction in architectural ideas. It took a long time for the local community to recognize the importance of The Ministry of Roads building, not only as a Georgian landmark but as a crucially important edifice in the context of a worldwide history of architecture.
