Palermo Cappuccini Catacombs as roller coaster of our inner life.
Cappuccini Square, the catacombs just the entrance and the exit with the end on number 40 of Via Gaetano La Loggia (very close to the catacombs) where my grandmother lived when I was a child.
Enjoy the trip!

How to travel from Palermo to Vulcano on the Aeolian Islands.
In September 2018, we flew to Palermo Airport, travelled by bus into the city and then caught the train to Milazzo and the boat to Vulcano. We had a great time on the Aeolian Islands.
There is a train from Palermo Airport into the city but it wasn't running when we arrived. Instead, we bought train tickets from the bus. There is a ticket desk in the main arrivals hall. To find the bus exit the airport and turn right, easy peasey.
The bus takes just under an hour to get to Palermo. It stops at a few places in the city and terminates at Palermo Central Train Station. Tickets for the train to Milazzo (port) can easily be purchased from a ticket desk or electronic multi lingual machine.
The train is fairly comfortable but there are no refreshments on board so take your own. Remember to validate your ticket in the machine before boarding.
The train follows a scenic coastal route passing through holiday destinations including Cefalu. We arrived in Milazzo about 2.5 hours later.
We were approached by taxi drivers outside Milazzo station offering to take us to the port and trying to convince us that the port is a looooooong way away. We didn't think so, and so we walked. It's about a 40/50 minute 5km brisk walk. We managed with our rucksacks and a baby in a trolley. If you can afford it, take the taxi. If you want an adventure and have time to stop for a coffee take a walk!
We travelled on the Siremar ferry. The boat was about to leave when we arrived at the port but the good folk of Siremar held it whilst I ran across the road and purchased our tickets. I swiftly ran back, the bridge was pulled up and we were away!
The voyage takes around 90 minutes. We later found out that there is a hydrofoil that takes less than 1 hour. The ferry is more roomy. The boats are cancelled in bad weather. That happened one day of out 12 night trip.
We stayed 9 nights on Vulcano and then three nights on Lipari. Some people though we were mad to spend so long on Vulcano as there isn't much to do. It worked well for us. We wanted to chill out and with a baby we couldn't be as adventurous as usual anyway. I did run up the Volcano alone twice before sunrise. It was spectacular and I'd recommend you do it too if you are fit enough. (See the time lapse videos on this channel).
We weren't as impressed by Lipari. Horses for courses. The town is much bigger almost urban but with good pedestrian streets full of shops and restaurants. If you had a car and could travel around the island it might have been better and many people love it there so don't miss it out.
The Aeolian Islands were lovely. Good food and beaches. Eating out is expensive. It cost about €50 for two main courses and half a litre of wine
We stayed at the Hotel Eros and couldn't recommend it enough. We travelled back to Palermo a reverse route as that in the video. We had two nights in the city at the end. Palermo is a really fab city.I think it's one of the best in Europe.
Happy travels!

Places to see in ( Palermo - Italy ) Catacombe dei Cappuccini
The Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo are burial catacombs in Palermo, Sicily, southern Italy. Today they provide a somewhat macabre tourist attraction as well as an extraordinary historical record.
Palermo's Capuchin monastery outgrew its original cemetery in the 16th century and monks began to excavate crypts below it. In 1599 they mummified one of their number, recently dead brother Silvestro of Gubbio, and placed him into the catacombs.
The bodies were dehydrated on the racks of ceramic pipes in the catacombs and sometimes later washed with vinegar. Some of the bodies were embalmed and others enclosed in sealed glass cabinets. Monks were preserved with their everyday clothing and sometimes with ropes they had worn as a penance.
Originally the catacombs were intended only for the dead friars. However, in the following centuries it became a status symbol to be entombed into the Capuchin catacombs. In their wills, local luminaries would ask to be preserved in certain clothes, or even to have their clothes changed at regular intervals. Priests wore their clerical vestments, others were clothed according to the contemporary fashion. Relatives would visit to pray for the deceased and also to maintain the body in presentable condition.
The catacombs were maintained through the donations of the relatives of the deceased. Each new body was placed in a temporary niche and later placed into a more permanent place. As long as the contributions continued, the body remained in its proper place but when the relatives did not send money any more, the body was put aside on a shelf until they resumed payment.
The catacombs are open to the public and taking photographs inside is supposedly prohibited. However, the bodies have been shown on film in Francesco Rosi's Cadaveri Eccellenti (Illustrious Corpses), and television programmes such as the Channel 4 series Coach Trip, BBC TV series Francesco's Italy: Top to Toe, Ghosthunting With Paul O'Grady and Friends on ITV2 in 2008 and The Learning Channel in 2000. Iron grills have been installed to prevent tourists tampering or posing with the corpses.

Castelbuono (Palermo - Sicily - Italy)

Center-right leads narrowly in Sicily regional vote exit polls.
PALERMO, Italy (Reuters) - Silvio Berlusconi’s center-right coalition has a narrow lead over the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement in Sicilian regional elections held on Sunday, according to exit polls, with the center-left a distant third.
The election to pick a new regional governor on the Mediterranean island is widely seen as a test of trends across Italy ahead of parliamentary elections due by next May.
RAI state television said Nello Musumeci, backed by center-right parties, including former Prime Minister Berlusconi’s Forza Italia (Go Italy!), would win between 35 percent and 39 percent of the vote.

The last portion of my route Palermo-Vibo Valentia. Due to some lack my camera had some issues, which could prevent some filming and recording action. But is ok, because this is the last video and it shows more detours. From Mileto exit i proceed toward, then i turn right to Serre exit directly to Vibo Valentia, close to Vibo Marina. I took the wrong way, infact my heading ought to be 270, therefore i should turn right, instead of going straight on. This because i followed my navigator instructions at the end of the motorway.
Nevermind...

Berlusconi's center-right leads narrowly in Sicily election exit polls.
PALERMO, Italy (Reuters) - Silvio Berlusconi’s center-right coalition on Sunday looked set to win by a narrow margin a regional vote in Sicily seen as a crucial test of national trends ahead of forthcoming parliamentary elections, exit polls suggested.
The Sicilian vote could mark a striking comeback for the 81-year-old four-times prime minister, whose candidate was predicted to have beaten off a tough challenge from the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement.
The center-left, led by Matteo Renzi’s ruling Democratic Party, looked certain to finish a distant third after internal feuding wrecked its chances of retaining power on the Mediterranean island that it had governed since 2012.
