Cuenca Ecuador CRIME (2019) + Safety TIPS for Any City
Amelia and JP VLOG 126: The Cuenca Ecuador Crime rate has been a trending topic lately. Traditional Spiritual Cleansing in Cuenca Ecuador
We decided to try a traditional Andean spiritual cleansing in Cuenca Ecuador, known as a limpia. This all went down at the Mercado 10 de Agosto (August 10 Market) in the town of Cuenca, Ecuador. This traditional healing involves an egg being rubbed around the body to obtain a diagnosis, being beaten with herbs, and being spit at. What a cultural experience! It is meant to rid everything terrible from the body.
This woman performing the spiritual cleansing had a massive following, as customers were waiting for about an hour specifically for her, while other cleansers were available. She charges $3 for this spiritual cleansing at the Cuenca market and the process lasted about eight minutes.
To read more about this limpia (cleansing) and all the other best things to do in Cuenca, Ecuador, all of our recommendations can be found in our Cuenca Travel Guide on the blog here:

Shocking Experience w/ Eye Exam & Glasses in Cuenca Ecuador at SOi Opticas (2020)
Amelia and JP VLOG 182: Our first eye exam and glasses purchase in Cuenca Ecuador was efficient, affordable and enjoyable. (This was NOT a sponsored video; we paid out of pocket and they didn't know who we were.)
We went to SOi Opticas off Solano near the stadium to make an appointment and they took me right then. The doctor spoke English and had all the modern equipment. In fact, it was even more modern than the equipment I've seen in the States. The exam cost $25.
Since my eyes had gotten so much worse, I needed new lenses for my old frames. My eyes have 4 different prescriptions, 2 for distance and 2 for reading, so I got progressive lenses with the anti-reflective coating. The cost was $149 and they were ready in 2 days.
My new glasses cost $123 for the frames + $126 for the lenses without the anti-reflective coating and were ready in 1 business day.
Here's a link to their website: Please tell them you saw our video on YouTube so maybe we'll get a discount next time. We highly recommend them and will certainly be going there from now on.

DENTIST IN ECUADOR // CUENCA
A few months before we left the US I had a cavity filled... which didn't last. It fell out in Ecuador when we were visiting the equator. I didn't think much of it, until 2 weeks later when I noticed the whole in my tooth had gotten much larger! I started to freak out a little and as soon as we got to Cuenca I went to the dentist. Cuenca is known for it's large ex-pat community and dental tourism. Which is why I was confident going to a dentist in Cuenca.

Welcome To Cuenca, Ecuador
Hi Adventurers....
The quaint colonial town of Cuenca, Ecuador can be found tucked away in the Andes Mountains at an elevation of 8400 feet above sea level. The beauty of this town will quickly captivate your heart as it did with us. Strolling through the cobblestone streets that lead you to small coffee shops and wonderful restaurants will fill your days. The people are incredibly kind, and they will quickly offer to help assist you should you find yourself slightly off target in finding a specific destination. The feeling of the French influence in the architecture is felt everywhere, giving you a feeling of being in Europe. And the central park is filled daily with families spending time with one another. We quickly found Cuenca to be one of our top favorite destinations, and we think you'll agree. Take a peek and see what you think.
