Chasing a Plate is in Oaxaca!
Oaxaca is the land of mezcal. Matatlan, the area where many of the palenques (distilleries) are located produce around 95-98% of the world's mezcal.
We join Experience Mezcal on a tour into the heart of mezcal country. Together with our guide Dari we head into the Oaxacan countryside. Our first stop is at an artisanal palenque up in the hills. We sample mezcals which are made from a single type of agave plant including espadin, tobala and karwinski.
We then head to a pulqueria and try pulque. We sample the aguamiel (the sap from the agave plant). Pulque results after the aguamiel is left to ferment. The Oaxacan pulque is light, bubbly and sweet. We manage to take a couple of litres of aguamile, collected that morning, home with us!
We stop for a traditional Oaxacan lunch of chile de rilleno, memelitas and atole before heading off to another palenque for a second tasting. On the way back into town we are able to learn how the agave hearts are roasted when we stop at a palenque which is preparing its fire pit in which to roast its agave. Before heading back to town we stop at the town of El Tule to see its famous, old and very wide tree.
An amazing day learning how mezcal is made, witnessing the production process and tasting amazing mezcal!
A mezcal tour with Experience Mezcal is a must do when in Oaxaca. Check out their website here:

Around Oaxaca city : the biggest/oldest tree in the World in Tule close to Oaxaca
Today, after spending El Dia de los Muertos in Oaxaca, we decided to explore the city's surroundings. We were told one of the biggest markets in southern Mexico was in Tlacolula. To be honest, after spending 5 months in this wonderful country we had the chance to visit a lot of different markets and we were a bit disappointed as our expectations were high. If you didn't get the chance to visit a traditional market in Mexico, you should go there. Otherwise there are many more interesting things to do around Oaxaca.

OAXACA, MEXICO is our new FAVORITE!!
Oaxaca is extraordinary! We're going behind the scenes to learn about alebrijes, black pottery, & more!
►Start your FREE TRIAL of Rocket Spanish at:
This video is Part 2 of our Oaxaca, Mexico video series. In this travel vlog, we visit three special towns just outside of Oaxaca City:
1. San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca
2. San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca
3. Santo Tomás Jalieza, Oaxaca
First, we went to San Bartolo Coyotepec to see a live demonstration of traditional Oaxacan pottery making. We learn how the clay is harvested, molded, refined, carved, and cooked in underground ovens to create either black or brown pottery. The work that goes into each piece is astonishing!
Next, we drove to San Martin Tilcajete where we visited the famous alebrijes workshop of Jacobo and Maria Angeles. Disney Pixar actually came to this exact location while doing research for the movie Coco. It blew our minds to learn how laborious the process of making alebrijes is. People come to this workshop from all over the world to learn how to be a master at carving and painting Oaxaca alebrijes.
Before heading to our last stop, we enjoyed our tour guide’s “car bar” where we sampled some of their very own mezcal. Spoiler alert: Oaxacan Mezcal is SO GOOD!
Finally, we drove down the road to Santo Tomas Jalieza to learn how intricate, hand-woven textiles are made. We learned that it’s common for one piece to take 3, 7-hour days (21 hours total) to create just one!
It’s hard not to LOVE Oaxaca, Mexico after learning more about its culture. The patience, dedication, and love that all of these artisans have for their craft is inspiring. After spending one week in Oaxaca, we can safely say that it’s become one of our all-time favorite places in Mexico. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel to see our next Oaxaca video! OAXACA FOOD VLOG | Tlayudas, Tamales, Mezcal + The BEST Food In MEXICO! | Travel Vlog
Join me for a day in Oaxaca City in the Oaxaca region of Mexico! Mexico is famous for its food and Oaxaca may just have the BEST food in Mexico. Oaxaca is known in particular for its coffee, its chocolate and its mezcal - three of the best things to eat and drink in Mexico! - so you know your tastebuds are in for a treat when you visit.
In this travel vlog, I have 24 hours in Oaxaca and I want to try all the best Mexican food and famous foods from the Oaxaca region of Mexico.
We start the day with a breakfast of Tamales, which is a popular Mexican street food made of corn, and a Oaxacan hot chocolate. Then I need a caffeine fix so we head to an amazing cafe in one of the main squares of Oaxaca City. For lunch, we head to Mercado 20 de noviembre and try tlayudas. Tlayudas are like a cross between a giant taco and a pizza, and they're delicious but VERY messy! Finally, we head to a restaurant on the main square of Oaxaca (apparently named the best restaurant in Oaxaca!) for some mole and Oaxacan style chicken wings. We finish of the night at a mezcal bar called La Mezcalerita, where I have a very interesting grasshopper margherita.
Thanks for watching! I post new travel vlogs every Sunday and new videos about digital nomad life and my travels as a digital nomad every Wednesday, so subscribe for more! :)

Mazunte - An Unexpected Experience | A Short Film |
Mazunte is a small town on the pacific coast of southern Mexico. We had no idea this town existed as we are travelling on 'An unexpected Journey'. This town has beautiful beaches and amazing landscapes.
Travelling has always helped us grow as persons. In fact, we learnt to get out of our comfort zone and try/learn new things. 'An unexpected Journey' a short film about 2 individuals who are on a journey without a plan. Somehow they end up in Mazunte and they learn about 'Unexpected Experience'
We created this video as a Reminder that 'Life is a journey full of unexpected experiences. Experiences that takes us to takes we never imagined'. This is Exactly what we learnt from our experience in Mazunte.
