Santa Margherita Ligure of Genoa, Italy 4K
This is a virtual walking tour of Santa Margherita in Ligure near Genoa. This beautiful coastal town is along the Italian Riviera. In the video I walk along the waterfront boardwalk. It was overcast on this day. The next day I would head to Cinque Terre and film Riomaggiore Manarola and the other coastal towns along the Cinque Terre just past Rapallo.

Portofino and Santa Margherita, Italy
Portofino along the shores of the Italian Riviera, a little seaport town, has a terrace with the picture-perfect postcard view of Portofino’s harbor, colorful buildings, and green hills beyond. This is not to be missed; in fact this view is the reason for our visit. Somehow the overall elements around you fit together in a perfectly harmonious whole,
Santa Margherita is a classic town on the waterfront of the Italian Riviera, with arcaded sidewalks, beautiful palm trees and a green park promenade along the beach and marina.
When you walk in a block from the waterfront you discover a charming Old Town atmosphere with pedestrian streets, little piazzas, shops, restaurants and locals out for a stroll. Not many tourists in this town, which therefore has a more authentic Italian feeling. It’s a great little town full of light and color with orange and brown pastel buildings nestled right up against the picturesque waterfront.

Portofino - ItalyCinqueTerre.com
Portofino is a town in the Liguria region of Italy, situated on the Ligurian Sea. It is a popular yachting destination.
The closest major airport to Portofino is the Christopher Columbus airport in Genoa (Aeroporto Cristoforo Colombo di Genova -- GOA). From there one could rent a car, as it is a relatively short (22 1/4 miles, 35.8 km) ride. Overall the drive takes a little over an hour, due partly to some light traffic leaving Genoa and mostly to the roads once you leave the major highway (the A12). A warning to nervous drivers, the streets are quite narrow and windy, as you might expect in a European/Riviera town. Proceed with caution, especially around corners and be alert!
Two other options if you are unable to get to Genoa are Nice, France (Aeroport Nice Cote D'Azur -- NCE) and Milan, Italy (Milan Malpensa -- MXP). They are a bit farther away but within driving distance and the drive(s) could be beautiful.
For a less harrowing experience, you could take a pleasant ferry ride. There is a well-developed ferry service in the region and there are frequent departures from Genoa to places where you can connect to Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure for one. Expect the ride to take a little longer, but it will certainly be far less nervewracking!
One final option should you happen to have the resources, just sidle into the harbor or a cove in your personal yacht. Portofino is a popular destination for the world's wealthy, and the luxurious yachts constantly dot the horizon in this lovely Mediterranean port.
Once in Portofino walking might be your best option. The town is not large and most hotels and beaches are a short walk from the harbor. Alternatively, mopeds seem to be a popular choice for getting about, especially for those people visiting several of the small regional towns like Paraggi or San Fruttuoso on their own schedule.

Portofino In May
????????BEAUTIFUL PORTOFINO - ITALIAN RIVIERA ????????
We traveled to northern Italy for 4 nights between May 26th - 30th 2018. We booked an apartment in La Spezia as our base, called 'La Dame' - very quirky, clean and had absolutely everything we needed, well worth looking up especially as it was minutes away from the train station too. We flew into Pisa and caught a taxi that took us to the leaning tower. We had a wonder around then walked 20 minutes back to the train station to board a train to La Spezia (it took an hour). We had a chilled evening, drank lots of Prosecco and went in search of a few bars. On our first full day in Italy, we decided to visit the 5 UNESCO world heritage villages collectively called 'Cinque Terre' or 5Terre. We were anticipating huge crowds of people visiting Cinque Terre so planned a bit ahead.
We decided to get up early and visit Vernazza first as this village seemed to be the most popular one to visit. We bought a Cinque Terre day pass which entitled us to hop on and off the train going between these villages all throughout the day and it cost us around 15.60 Euros. Next, we bought a train ticket which cost us around 13 Euros return to Santa Margherita Ligure and we were to stay there for one night so we can visit nearby Portofino the following day.
In this vlog -
We spent the morning at our hotel in Santa Margherita Ligure swimming in the sea and rooftop pool. Just before lunch, we caught a bus from outside our hotel - Best Western Regina Elena which cost us 3 euros for a single and took around 8-10 minutes to arrive at Portofino. When we arrived, it didn't seem that busy which was lovely to wander around and take photos without crowds of people in your way however, after we had lunch around 1pm, Portofino soon started to get busier. I had seen amazing arial / panoramic views of the bay of Portofino and noticed a path leading up to Castello Brown. After a bit of googling, we decided to venture up. It took us around 10-15 minutes, steep in parts but a really lovely walk up. Entry into the castle costs 5 euros and the views were absolutely amazing. The castle is very small but had some lovely art exhibitions inside as well as beautiful gardens. We absolutely loved Portofino, such a pretty part of the Italian Riviera and we spent nearly all day there, eventually leaving early evening on the boat back to Santa Margherita which costs us 7 euros and took around 20 minutes....well worth doing as the views leaving Portofino are stunning including watching the huge yachts coming into dock.
Our 4 days in Italy went really fast but we also packed in so many brilliant experiences. Cinque Terre has been on my top 'to do' list for many years and it did not disappoint, i would love to go back one day and spend a bit more time around this area including doing the hikes between the Cinque Terre villages.
I hope you enjoyed watching my Italian Riviera travel diary series, speak soon. Claire x

TRAVEL WITH ME TO THE ITALIAN RIVERIA
Hi guys! Last Thursday I left for the Italian Riviera and I filmed my entire experience.
I started my trip with my USAC program at the Port of Genoa. We traveled to Santa Margherita Ligure afterwards where we spent 1 night in a hotel. The next day, we visited the beautiful city of Portofino and that evening some of us ventured to spend the rest of the weekend exploring the villages of Cinque Terra!
It was such an amazing trip and I hope you all enjoy watching this video! If you have any questions about the Italian coast, do not hesitate to ask me in the comments. :)
