Zhangjiajie National Forest Park: 4 Days of Adventure in Avatar Mountains of Hunan China
Follow my 4 days adventure to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park where the highlight of this Zhangjiajie travel guide focuses on national park, Avatar mountains, Zhangjiajie Hunan's food, Xibu night market, the infamous Zhangjiajie bridge, the spectacular view of the heaven view from a cable car and the Tujia Minority. The main attraction which is the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is where lies the heavenly view of the natural scenery. Located in Hunan, Zhangjiajie Park's beauty even attracted legendary film maker, James Cameroon to select the Zhangjiajie Mountain as the backdrop of the Hallelujah Mountain in the mystical planet of Pandora in the movie, AVATAR. My 4 days of Zhangjiajie itinerary and travel guide as below:
★Day 1
The first day of my Zhangjiajie trip brought me to the Yellow Dragon Cave aka Huanglong Cave. Yellow Dragon Cave, known as the wonder of the world's caves, is one of the largest caverns in China. It is a karst cave, full of stalagmites, stalactites, underground streams, and large caverns. Exploring the cave, I need to navigate up and down the stairs as well as taking boats to reach the others part of the cavern.
During the night I explore the ordinary street of Zhangjiajie.
★Day 2
Second day starts by a tour to Hallelujah Mountains (previously knowns as Southern Sky Column). Hallelujah Mountain is located in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in the Wulingyuan Area of Hunan Province. The beauty of these natural wonder inspires the floating mountain in the world of Pandora of James Cameroon's Avatar. Hallelujah Mountains is accessible by cable car. Avatar Mountains China 2018
At the night, I explored the tourist must visit pedestrian walk, Xibu Street. Here, there are plenty street performance, cultural shows, street foods, restaurant, local delicacy, exotic food and many hand made souvenir.
★Day 3
After 2 days of wonderful scenery shock, it's time for me to relax. My first stop on the third day is the Jinbian Stream aka Golden Whip Stream. This is where you can relax with pristine water, verdant mountains and cool weather.
Second stop of the days is the 10 miles natural gallery. To explore, you either either choose to walk or take the train. As the name implies, 10 Miles Gallery feature a wonderful view of natural mountain that resembles human, animal, god and beast. At the end of the 10 miles natural gallery is the Monkey Garden. Had some fun with the monkey over there!
Third stop of the day is the highlight my Zhangjiajie trip, the longest and highest glass bridge in China at the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. Experience the thrilling feeling of height of Zhangjiajie National ForestPark glass bridge by standing on transparent glass bridge. It might be scary at first but it become normal later on. From the Zhangjiajie glass bridge, I go down to the bottom of the canyon through the cliff plank road. Halfway through, I am given choice of taking elevator or keep going through the cliff plank road. I chose the plank. And my perseverance was rewarded when I met with a local Tujia minority couple and have a short conversation with them. Pushing downward, I was welcomed by a calm turquoise lake. At the end of the route, I leave Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon by boat.
★Day 4
The fourth and final day, I visited the TianMen Mountain. Tianmen mountain is famous for its spectacular view from the cable cars, 999 steps Heaven's Gate and glass plank road or glass walkway. To be honest, the view from the tops of TianMen is the closest resembles of Heaven on the Earth. Last day of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park trip ends and we travel to Changsha for a flight home.

The Most Beautiful Place in China: Avatar Mountains Of Zhangjiajie (China Vlog 2019 张家界)
China's Zhangjiajie national park is home to perhaps the most unique landscape you'll ever see. The Zhangjiajie national forest park holds over 3,000 quartzite rock towers that form an incredible forest in the sky, complete with foggy peaks and lush greenery. These pinnacles, some of which are over 1 kilometer (!) high, were the inspiration for the floating mountains in the Avatar movie. Let's go get some vertigo, shall we? ;)
We cannot recommend visiting the Avatar mountains China highly enough if you are (thinking of) planning in the region! 张家界

My First Trip to Zhangjiajie 张家界
Welcome to Hanif's Video. Hope You really enjoy it...
================
Zhangjiajie (simplified Chinese: 张家界; traditional Chinese: 張家界; pinyin: Zhāngjiājiè) is a prefecture-level city in the northwestern part of Hunan province, People's Republic of China. It comprises the district of Yongding and counties of Cili and Sangzhi. Within it is located Wulingyuan Scenic Area which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 as well as an AAAAA scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration.
The new name of Zhangjiajie City was adopted in 1994, after the National Forest Park in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area (武陵源) in order to give it more prominence and after this site had been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. The National Forest Park had been given the name of Zhangjiajie after the name of a small village located within its bounds, and now a popular tourist attraction within the park. The three-character name (张家界) can be interpreted as follows: Zhang (张) is a common surname in China; jia (家) can be translated as family; and jie (界) can be translated as homeland, giving the completed translation of Zhang family homeland. It has been reported that at least one tourist guide has said that the name may have been chosen to convey the idea or impression of Open the family door to welcome the world (张开家门引进世界), but this is not the locally accepted and directly-translated meaning of the name. The official version of its name is linked to a Han general, Zhang Liang, who resettled in the area after a suspicious Liu Bang, the Han emperor, started to persecute his staffs and generals who had contributed to his becoming emperor. It was so named to signify that the Zhang family had set up home there.
The Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area comprises the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the Tianzishan (天子山) mountain ranges, Baofenghu (宝峰湖) and the Suoxi Valley (索溪峪), and is a very popular filming and tourist destination.
Also in the Zhangjiajie area, Huanglongdong (黄龙洞) and Longwangdong (龙王洞) are caves known for many natural rock formations (much like Wulingyuan) and its underground cataract.
The Bailong Elevator is also located in the area.
Each year, Zhangjiajie hosts the International Country Music Week Festival,[4] which has featured international acts such as American Country Music group Lucy Angel.
The Zhangjiajie Airport services scheduled service to major airports in China. It is about 5 km away from the downtown and 30 km away from Wulingyuan Scenic Area. There are domestic flights available between Zhangjiajie and other cities, such as Changsha, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou etc. Flights between Zhangjiajie and Seoul, Busan are also available.

Changsha, the Gateway to Zhangjiajie — China | The Travel Intern
So you might have heard of the Avatar Hallelujah Mountains and all of its grandeur. HOWEVER!! It can get pretty tricky planning a trip there.
But before we let you in on our tips~ Here’s an article for you:
CHANGSHA (00:33)
00:40 - Huangxing Road
This walking street stretches SO a couple kilometres, but even if you walk from one end to the other, it won’t feel like you’ve walked several rounds around the track because there are endless things to eat, see and buy!
01:11 - Yuelu Shan (Mount Yuelu)
01:25 - Chuan Shi Po Lake
Also known as Yuelu Mountain, it’s a pretty sweet getaway from the city of Changsha!
*Pro-tip: Bring your student IDs for 50% off tickets up!
01:41 - Meixihu Cultural & Arts Center
Feels like you’ve stepped into another world.. Really. The infrastructure is crazy huge, and even with our lil mavic birdie up in the air to the MAX ALT HEIGHT, it couldn’t capture a top-down shot encompassing the whole campus!
01:53 - Juzizhou (Orange Isle)
Here’s where you can visit the iconic landmark of Changsha — Chairman Mao’s head! Tour the museum to find out more about his background and life story~
02:20 - Xihulou (West Lake Restaurant)It’s not everyday you get to dine in Asia’s largest Chinese restaurant… The food is pretty sick too, and you get to choose between different mini restaurants inside!
ZHANGJIAJIE (02:43)
02:46 - Laowuchang
This is believed to be the best sunrise spot in Zhangjiajie National Park, recommended to us by locals!
02:58 - Avatar Hallelujah Mountain
Here’s what you came for — the very, very, very famous Hallelujah Mountain. It was used as the inspiration of the Avatar movie’s other-worldly landscape.
03:09 - Bailong Elevator
It’s quite an experience, descending into the depths of ZJJ National Park!
03:22 - Baofeng Lake
Take a soothing, serene boat ride through Baofeng Lake to end the day~
03:35 - Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge
This is also another super famous and iconic landmark in ZJJ, but beware though, at ALL hours through the day, it’s going to be a crowded time. But don’t let that stop you from exploring different ways to pose for a picture ;-)
*Pro-tip: Get inspo from the locals themselves, they’re pretty solid at that.
03:57 - Tianmen Mountain
04:09 - Glass Bottom Cliffside Path
Tianmen Mountain is situated nearer to the city of ZJJ, not high up where the national park is, so do take note! Also, yay to more glass bottom bridges and paths!!
Next Wednesday, we’ll be bringing you more in-depth tips on how to scale Zhangjiajie, it’ll be super duper useful, so stay tuned!!

HOW TO: Zhangjiajie in 72 Hours | The Travel Intern
Last week, we promised y’all that we’d give y’all a detailed breakdown of how to scale Zhangjiajie, so here it is! First of all, it’s impossible to spend only one or two days in ZJJ. So PLEASE keep that in mind — At least three days (72 hours like in this video) or more.
Chloe’s gonna share some of the tips and tricks the team gathered to handling ZJJ like a frickin’ pro.
1. Explore two parts of ZJJ — Zhangjiajie City, Wulingyuan District (belonging to Zhangjiajie National Park).
2. Be mentally and physically prepared for massive crowds and A LOT of walking.
3. Show off your greatest poses and get creative for photos!!!! (Safety is sexy though, remember.)
4. Bring your student IDs to get discounts! Some even up to 50%.
5. Get ready to spend hours walking through different sites, and note that some places (like Tianzishan) are pretty much a one-way route, so there’s no reversing once you’ve entered the place.
6. Have a great, great time.
01:32 - Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge
This is where Tip #2 comes into FULL PLAY.*IMPT: Do note that you are not allowed to bring things like selfie sticks, cameras (except mobile phones), water bottles, big bags, tripods, basically clunky stuff onto the glass bridge. And no drones are allowed to be flown around the area!
02:07 - Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon
You have to walk through this Grand Canyon right after you get down from the glass bridge.
03:28 - Bailong Elevator
*IMPT: In order to leave the mountainous regions of ZJJ National Park, you’ve got to take the Bailong Elevator, especially if you want to head to Baofeng Lake to end off the day and vice versa.
04:10 - Baofeng Lake
04:48 - Tianzi Mountain
We’re now in Zhangjiajie City! Not in the National Park anymore.
*Route 1 vs Route 2 — This is important, it’s either you wanna walk up 999 (Renald claims it’s less than 999 steps) steps or you wanna walk down the 999 steps.
If you haven’t already checked it out, here’s our full itinerary:
We hope you get to experience the BESTEST of ZJJ, just like how we did! :’-)

Hunan Province Vlog: TianZiShan & Glass Walkway at TianMenShan!
** Please expand the description box for itinerary & music details**

September 2, 2014
To see a map of the TianMen Mountain Park and a cable car schedule, skip to 12:53.
We spent most our last day in TianMen Mountain (TianMenShan) Park, which is a 30 minute cable car ride from downtown ZhangJiaJie City. But first we started the day by walking to WangQiaoTai, which is just behind ZhongTian International Youth Hostel. We visited WangQiaoTai each of the three days we were in WuLingYuan, and we got the best view on this day! It was soooo amazing! On a clear day, you can see all the way to bottom of the valley at the mountains’ base, and the depth is overwhelming and awe inspiring.
Because it was clear, we decided to take a bus back to TianZiShan (where were the day before when we saw nothing because it was too foggy). It was so worth the risk of time loss because we saw the mountain peaks poking through the clouds. GORGEOUS.
Our last stop in Wulingyuang was a five minute walk from YangJiaJie. We wanted to photograph and film the rice fields nestled in a valley with the mountain background. Again, it was stunning.
We took the cable car from Yangjiajie. The cable car ride was not disappointing. If you have the time, then there’s a hike that follows the cable car route, but we were told it takes 3-4 hours.
The next step was to get back to ZhangJiaJie City, which was a little complicated. From the cable car station we took a free shuttle bus to a transition station where we had to walk along a wooden path for almost 15 minutes. We then took another bus, which made a pit stop at the HuangShiZhai cable car station then proceeded to the SenLin Park Entrance (which we also visited the day before). We then walked to the bus station outside the park and paid 10 RMB each for the bus to ZhangJiaJie City. The bus goes all the way to the bus station, but we got off a bit early at the TianMenShan cable car station.
FYI: TianMenShan has a free baggage check service. We took advantage of it by leaving our backpacks there.
The cable car takes an epic 30 minutes and offer amazing views! At the top of the mountain we headed straight to the Glass Walkway. After you pay a separate 5 RMB fee and put a pair of booties over your shoes there’s nothing left to do but be brave and walk the glass walkway 1500 m at the top of the mountain!! It was a thrilling experience.
We were short on time, so we didn’t explore any more of the mountain. Instead we took the cable car to the midway station and boarded another bus (which took a very windy road!) to the 999 steps. There were a couple delays because of thunder, lightning, and heavy rain, but the fog cleared up just enough for us to get a glorious view steps and caves. Then they vanished…consumed by fog! We waited an hour hoping for another clearing but decided to leave when the rain started up again. You could easily spend a whole day on TianMen Mountain. We wish we had more time!
For dinner we went across the street to Vide Hotel, which as a Korean restaurant. We didn’t realize until we got there that it’s actually a North Korean restaurant! The bibimbap was delicious. The servers perform during dinner, which makes for an overall interesting dining experience.
Our first visit to Hunan Province was beyond wonderful! We hope we get to visit again soon!
Thank you for watching!! :)
