Taipei Main Station Ultimate Guide-Taipei, Taiwan
Need to book a hotel for Taipei or anywhere else? Using this link to book your hotel with Agoda will give you the same price great price and help us out with a small commission:
Taipei Main Station can be extremely confusing to anyone including long time residents. I've tried to keep instructions on how to navigate the huge complex simple and if you follow the advice I give, mainly just using the signs above you for directions you shouldn't have too much difficulty getting around. I focused on the Taipei Main Station building where you'll find places to eat, shop, buy train tickets, the Airport MRT, the bus station located at the East Side of the main building, and the other MRT lines. If you are wanting to travel by bus to other parts of Taiwan including the Eastcoast, Central, and Southern Taiwan, then you'll need to go to Q Square where buses serve these regions of the island.
If you want to learn more about the Taipei Metro system and the Taoyuan Airport MRT then watch these videos:

Into Taichung (台中): Nambasaki Vlogs 7
Wrapping up our days in Northern Taiwan with Taipei 101, elephant mountain, and Qixing Mountain,
we finally venture out of the Northern Taiwan and delve in the world of backing into central Taiwan and downward.
First stop, Taichung!
Long day, full of pretty sights, walking, and good food.
More interesting things to come.
Thank you for watching.
Bystro Taiwan - Taichung, Taiwan
This is my favorite restaurant in the world. Everything they can do in-house, they do in-house. The husband/wife owners are some of my favorite people in Taichung.
And they make one of the best burgers I've ever had: The Blue Demon.
A grilled 180g (6.3oz) hand-pressed sirloin patty that you barely have to chew...topped with bleu cheese, smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and onion...served with hot sauce and (upon request) barbecue sauce...on an in-house-made bun...served with shoestring fries and cole slaw...for only TW$300 (US$10).
But that's far from all they do. Their fare ranges from Italian to American to British to French, and absolutely all of it is excellent. I managed to get video of us just before things start to get busy, which usually happens around 7pm-8pm. They do live music once a month. They have the best service and food in Taichung. And BOGO happy hour is daily from 4pm-7pm!
They're only open for dinner, starting from 4pm.
You can always give them a call (04-2327-1563) or just plug their address (台中市精誠路50巷27號) into Google and go; reservations (especially for parties over 4 people) are recommended but not required - walk-ins are welcome.
Check out their website:

Check out my blog (along with a written review of Bystro):
Taichung 2020

No talking vlog again whoops. Here's part 2 of my Taiwan trip in Taichung for 6 days (1/1-1/7, 2020). I tried to shoot more street food videos before devouring them this time. But still missing a lot of video content on food and boba. Here's to more shots with me in the video. Enjoy!

We also have a website with lots of articles about Taiwan. Visit it! We try to make a video or two every week. Let us know what you think about this channel and what you would like to see about Taiwan. All the best to you!
From Travel in Taiwan magazine 2018-7-8:
New Tile House Hakka Cultural District
The New Tile House Hakka Cultural District is neither new, nor a single house, but rather a cluster of single-story buildings made of bricks (some fired, some mud) and tiles. Not much happens here on weekdays, but visit on a weekend and you might see cultural groups presenting music or dance performances.

Old Hsinchu Prefectural Hall
Unlike similar official buildings in Tainan and Taichung, the Old Hsinchu Prefectural Hall continues to play a key role in local government, and is where the city’s mayor has his office.

Hsinchu City Fire Museum
The museum, inside a functioning fire station, contains bilingual displays that cover both the history of the local firefighting service and how best to survive a conflagration.

Shi Family Fish Balls
Located southwest of Hsinchu Railway Station, this restaurant has been praised by hundreds of netizens. It's an old-school eatery: There’s no English sign or menu, and not one dollar has been wasted on fancying up the décor.
Add: No. 27, Xingxue St., Hsinchu City (新竹市興學街27號)

Zhulian Temple
This hall of worship is at the Buddhist end of the theological spectrum, but you’ll also see traditional folk practices. One is the casting of pairs of crescent-shaped wood blocks known to Taiwanese-speakers as poe.
Add: No. 100, Zhulian St., Hsinchu City (新竹市竹蓮街100號)
Qiding Station
There's no staff at this station, nor vending machines from which you can buy tickets. Hsinchu to Qiding is NT$21.
Landscape Platform
It takes just a few minutes to get from the station to the platform. Gazing out over the Taiwan Strait, as the wind turbines that dot this stretch of coast slowly rotated and the occasional express train rumbled past, was a soothing experience.
Zimu Tunnel
When this railway line was double-tracked in the early 1970s, it was moved slightly closer to the sea because the tunnels (there are actually two) were too narrow. Exemplars of the solid infrastructure built during the 1895-1945 Japanese colonial period, they're now preserved as part of a walkway/bike trail. The first tunnel is 67m long, the second nearly double that. No flashlights are needed; there's enough natural light for you to see where you're walking.
Xiangshan Station
The lovingly maintained station building in Xiangshan is an attraction in its own right. Dating from 1928, it’s the only remaining Japanese-era railway stop in Taiwan that was built using cypress from the Alishan area in the central mountains.
Xiangshan Tianhou Temple
The current building dates from the 1920s, but there’s been a shrine on this site since sometime in the late 17th century, when Han Chinese from Fujian (the mainland China province closest to Taiwan) began to settle on the coast here. Like the majority of Taiwan’s folk shrines, this temple houses effigies of several deities, but the principal object of veneration is Mazu, the Goddess of the Sea.

Groundbreaking for Taichung airport’s upgraded domestic terminal
Taichung’s airport broke ground on Monday for its new domestic terminal. NT$990 million have been earmarked to renovate the terminal, which is part of a wider plan to boost the airport’s handling capacity. Multiple upgrades worth NT$75.6 billion are underway at the Taichung gateway. They’re slated for completion in 2040. Taichung International Airport is renovating its domestic terminal. President Tsai Ing-wen helped break ground on the project on Monday.Tsai Ing-wenPresidentEvery cent of our investment in Taichung International Airport is an investment in the development of Central Taichung and an investment in the future of Taiwan. We will do everything in our power for this project.Lin Chia-lungTransport ministerLegislator Hung Tzu-yung has been – I don’t want to say she’s been pressuring me. It’s more that she’s pressing me, although pressing is the same as pressuring. Anyway on all sorts of occasions she brings up the matter of ensuring airport ground access from the Tan-ya-shen bike path.Backed by central and local officials, the airport project has gotten an adjustment to its timeline. It was scheduled for completion in 2035 on a NT$24.8 billion budget. It now has a budget of NT$75.6 billion and a deadline of 2040. Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen had cried foul about the added five-year wait.Lin Chia-lungTransport ministerMayor Lu is under a bit of a misunderstanding. She says we delayed the 2035 deadline by another five years. If only she knew. We will ask Deputy Mayor Yang to go back and inform Mayor Lu and her administrative team. The extended timeline is for the sake of expansion. It’s an upgrade. That’s why we nearly tripled the budget.Taichung Deputy Mayor Yang Chiung-ying attended the groundbreaking ceremony, as did lawmaker Hung Tzu-yung. The two are running for a legislative seat in the same district this season. During the event, the campaign rivals posed for photos together, although media noted that their interactions were frosty and few.

Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, is a modern metropolis with Japanese colonial lanes, busy shopping streets and contemporary buildings. The skyline is crowned by the 509m-tall, bamboo-shaped Taipei 101 skyscraper, with upscale shops at the base and a rapid elevator to an observatory near the top. Taipei is also known for its lively street-food scene and many night markets, including expansive Shilin market.
Major attractions include the National Palace Museum, displaying a vast collection of Chinese Imperial art moved from Beijing’s Forbidden City in 1949, and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. The old neighborhoods of Wanhua and Datong are filled with historic sites, including Longshan Temple, founded in 1738 and honoring numerous Buddhist and Taoist gods. Near the city and accessible by metro is the longtime spa region of Beitou, offering soaks at geothermal springs and hikes at adjacent Yangmingshan National Park. Another popular day trip is the Maokong tea region, reached by the 4km-long Maokong gondola from Taipei Zoo.

TAIPEI - OUT & ABOUT
I managed to find the time to explore Taipei and its surrounding during my recent work trip, thanks to our station rep Mr. Jeff Fu for showing me around and how to travel like a local.
Stayed at City Suites Gateway which is just nearby TPE airport. Ask for a Halal friendly room, equipped with a toilet hose and Qibla direction. Halal meals can be arranged upon advanced request. Otherwise take the MRT from Dayuan station (450 metres from the hotel) to Taoyuan airport T1, look for a food court at the basement where there's a Middle East halal restaurant.
Head on to Taipei City using the MRT Express Taoyuan Airport line and enjoy the scenic route. Jeff took me on a tour of Taipei on foot and MRT. Stopped by Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall and Presidential Palace for a photo outing before heading off to the upscale shopping area at the Taipei 101 surroundings, and the hipster Ximending pedestrian street. We had yummy middle eastern dinner at at Muslim restaurant at Songshan Qu area, which I didn't manage to capture the exact location on Maps.
Other places included a quick stop at Taimall at Taoyuan City and another Indian halal dinner. The final night, visited the renowned Shilin Night Market (there are plenty of other markets in Taipei too if you're not into crowded and touristy places). A halal tip if you're looking for snacks here; just go for the seafood and ask if they only use vegetable oil, otherwise the fruits would be great.
Till next time, Taipei.

Taiwan cycling tour | Taipei to Taitung (13 Nov 2019)
Excited to start our Taitung tour. Thinking it’ll be a leisure cycling trip. We packed our bikes at Taipei main station and board the express train towards Taitung. Taitung is surrounded by mountains which undeniably one of the most beautiful area in Taiwan. That night we stayed at a Norden Ruder Hostel that’s so cyclists friendly. We love it here. The next day I didn’t expect that we will be going through such long hilly ride because I was told that it’s only 20km of uphill which is not wrong.... CC was referring to the first half of tomorrow. ????
