Eric Peterman receives 2008 ARA Sportsmanship Award
All-everything wide receiver Eric Peterman of Northwestern University has received college football's top national sportsmanship award. The ARA Sportsmanship Award is presented to the NCAA bowl division collegiate football player who most exemplifies sportsmanship on and off the field by the Awards and Recognition Association. Its the only national award that recognizes an athletes character and leadership as it translates to sportsmanship. Peterman led Northwestern to a 9-3 record.
The senior receiver owns a 12.6 yards per reception career average and began his final year ranked 16th on Northwestern's all-time receiving yardage list with 1,274 yards. Off of the field, Peterman serves on the Northwestern football leadership council and student athlete advisory council committee; volunteers with community service events and departmental peer mentor programs; and is one of four representatives of the educational apple/athletic prevention program for improving substance abuse.

The AT&T National Sportsmanship Awards celebrates all thats right in sports. The Struggle for Justice: The 1619 Project and the Changing Narrative on Mass Incarceration
An evening focused on the struggle for justice, from the first arrival of enslaved people sold to colonists in 1619 to the mass incarceration of Black and Brown people.
The evening program begins with a keynote address by award-winning New York Times journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, lead writer on the New York Times Magazine 1619 Project issue. An expert panel of criminal justice advocates, journalists, and educators will then discuss the changing narrative on mass incarceration. Following the panel discussion, Hannah-Jones will join in a Q&A with panelists.

Retired Air Force General John Douglass is the Democratic nominee running against first-term Rep. Robert Hurt, for Virginia's 5th Congressional District. Larger than the state of New Jersey, the district stretches from the central-Virginia liberal oasis of Charlottesville through acres of deeply conservative, predominantly white, farmland. Douglass is challenging Hurt to debates; Hurt's campaign says he's schedule is too busy. Michael Shure shares his story of almost running for congress in Virginia.
