Guatemala- climbing 7 volcanoes including Tajumulco.
Ascents of the dormant Acatenango (3976m) followed by Santa Maria volcano (3772m) then Volcan Zunil (3542m). Next was Tajumulco (4220m), the highest point in Central America. We then went to the beautiful Lake Atitlan, before climbing our final volcano, San Pedro (3040m), overlooking the lake. Incomplete ascents of the active Pacaya (2552m) and very active Fuego (3760m) volcanoes (due to their volcanic activity!).
This trip was in December 2015 - Jan 2016 and was developed and organised by KE Adventure Travel. Local guides and logistics were provided by Old Town Outfitters, Guatemala.
Climbing Mt Fuego Volcano in Guatemala
At over 12,000 feet with about a 65 degree incline, this was the hardest climb I have done. In one day climb we went upwards 398 floors over 18 km. And yes it’s cold above the clouds. Additional note Mt Fuego blasted in June 2018, killing 240 + confirmed people but the Guatemalan Govt didn’t release that an additional 2500 + were still missing. Odd to be that close to a volcano that could have done the same to us.
Another crazy Milo Thing to do!
Climbing Volcano Agua. Antigua,Guatemala
Offroad ride and hike to the top of Volcano Agua. A vigorous one hour ride by Land rover, followed by four hours of hiking to get to the top. With no sounds of civilization, and heavenly views, this was an experience of a lifetime. A guided foot tour can take a half day to get to the top, there are also overnight tours that include camping at the top. If you ever visit Guatemala, Volcano Agua is just a fraction of the beauty that the Antigua area offers. The time it takes to get to go all the way up volcano Agua is a small price for the feeling of standing on top of the world..

Pacaya Volcano from the air - Guatemala´s most active volcano
Pacaya Volcano is Guatemala´s most active volcano. I went up to film with drones the active crater and the lava flows around it.
We were able to get just meters away from hot lava and film how these flows move along the rock.
Hiking up Pacaya just takes a couple of hours and the views are simply amazing. I used my DJI Mavic Air to film the whole route and show the beauty of raw nature.

Krakatoa volcano explodes: spectacular huge eruption two months before 2018 tsunami
Krakatoa volcano explodes in a spectacular large eruption with a small lateral blast on 17 Oct 2018. The place shown in this video no longer exists: on 22 Dec 2018, the summit cone of Anak Krakatau island, seen here erupting, collapsed into the sea in a massive landslide, triggering a devastating tsunami that killed hundreds of people.
Video was taken during a VolcanoDiscovery expedition to Krakatau from 13-20 Oct 2018. In the afternoon of 17 Oct, a particularly violent explosion occurred as lateral blast that excavated a pit crater beneath the southern lid of the crater, at the same location the September lava flow had overspilled from the crater. By 19 Oct, this new pit had merged with the main crater, enlarging it.

Acatenango Volcano in Antigua, Guatemala
Acatenango Volcano in Antigua, Guatemala
Acatenango is a stratovolcano in Guatemala, close to the city of Antigua. The volcano has two peaks, Pico Mayor (Highest Peak) and Yepocapa (3,880 m) which is also known as Tres Hermanas (Three Sisters). Acatenango is joined with Volcán de Fuego and collectively the volcano complex is known as La Horqueta.
The Fuego-Acatenango massif comprises a string of five or more volcanic vents along a north-south trend that is perpendicular to that of the Central American Volcanic Arc in Guatemala. From north to south, known centres of volcanism are Ancient Acatenango, Yepocapa, Pico Mayor de Acatenango, Meseta, and Fuego. Volcanism along the trend stretches back more than 200,000 years. Although many of the centres have been active contemporaneously, there is a general sequence of younger volcanism, from north to south along the trend.
This massive volcano complex towers more than 3,500 metres above the Pacific coastal plain to the south and 2,000 metres above the Guatemalan Highlands to the north. The volcano complex comprises remnants of multiple eruptive centres, which periodically have collapsed to form huge debris avalanches. The largest of these avalanches extended more than 50 kilometres from its source and covered more than 300 square kilometres.
The only known historical eruptions of Acatenango volcano occurred in the 20th century, between 1924 and 1927 from just north of the summit peak (Pico Mayor) and again in December 1972 from the saddle between Yepocapa and Pico Mayor. These phreatic explosions generated ballistic volcanic bombs that fell near the summit craters and fine volcanic ash that fell up to 25 km away.
In prehistoric time, Acatenango has erupted explosively to form widespread fall deposits, hot pyroclastic flows and lava flows. There have been numerous eruptions during the past 80,000 years from vents along the massif. The most recent explosive eruptions of Acatenango occurred 1,900 years ago (Pico Mayor), 2,300 years ago (Pico Mayor) and about 5,000 years ago (Yepocapa). If such eruptions were to recur, many people and costly infrastructure would be at risk.
The volcano has potential to produce huge debris avalanches that could inundate large areas of the Pacific coastal plain. In areas around the volcanoes and downslope toward the coastal plain, more than 100,000 people are potentially at risk from these and other flowage phenomena.
For visitors to Antigua in Guatemala; Acatenango Volcano and the neighbouring Volcan de Fuego (Fire Volcano) can be an irresistible adventure. While it would be unsafe and irresponsible to hike the active Volcan de Fuego, it is possible to hike to the summit of Acatenango and watch Fuego erupt from a safe distance. It is a tough hike up steep slopes with loose volcanic rocks and the altitude can be a challenge for some. There are different options, 1 day or 2 days tours available from Antigua. To get the most from the hike, it is best to spend the night on the volcano, so that it is possible to see Fuego erupt at night, when it is most impressive. Make sure you research the tour company you are doing your trek with well – six tourists died of exposure on Acatenango in January 2017

Alex Chacon Surfs Deep Into Guatemala | Salty Conscience Project, Ep. 6
Salty Conscience is a team of Brazilian surfers on a mission to get great waves and explore the lesser-known corners of Latin America's premier surf spots. As they head South Through Mexico and into Guatemala the swell craps out so they take us along on an impromptu tour of some of the more interesting things happening in southern Mexico. We meet a group of volunteers who work every day to protect local sea turtle populations and stop off at the famous Mayan ruins of the city-state of Palenque.
After crossing the boarder to Guatemala they immerse themselves in a new, vibrant culture. The first stop is the tiny fishing village of el Paredón. There they meet a group of local kids who started their own surf club with a handful of old communal boards. They also pop into the NGO, La Choza Chula that works with children from the community and gives them a space to indulge their creative drives. Of course, being surfers, they manage to sneak in a windy session with the kids from the surf club as well.
