Temple of Horus at Edfu is an ancient Egyptian temple located on the west bank of the Nile
The Temple of Edfu is an ancient Egyptian temple located on the west bank of the Nile in the city of Edfu which was known in Greco-Roman times as Apollonopolis Magna, after the chief god Horus-Apollo. It is one of the best preserved temples in Egypt. The temple, dedicated to the falcon god Horus, was built in the Ptolemaic period between 237 and 57 BC. The inscriptions on its walls provide important information on language, myth and religion during the Greco-Roman period in ancient Egypt. In particular, the Temple's inscribed building texts provide details of its construction, and also preserve information about the mythical interpretation of this and all other temples as the Island of Creation. There are also important scenes and inscriptions of the Sacred Drama which related the age-old conflict between Horus and Seth. They are translated by the German Edfu-Project. Edfu was one of several temples built during the Ptolemaic period, including Dendera, Esna, Kom Ombo and Philae. Its size reflects the relative prosperity of the time.[4] The present temple, which was begun on 23 August 237 BC, initially consisted of a pillared hall, two transverse halls, and a barque sanctuary surrounded by chapels. The building was started during the reign of Ptolemy III and completed in 57 BC underPtolemy XII. It was built on the site of an earlier, smaller temple also dedicated to Horus, although the previous structure was oriented east-west rather than north-south as in the present site. A ruined pylon lies just to the east of the current temple; inscriptional evidence has been found indicating a building program under the New Kingdom rulers Ramesses I, Seti I and Ramesses II. A naos of Nectanebo II, a relic from an earlier building, is preserved in the inner sanctuary, which stands alone while the temple's barque sanctuary is surrounded by nine chapels. The temple of Edfu fell into disuse as a religious monument following Theodosius I's edict banning non-Christian worship within the Roman Empire in 391. As elsewhere, many of the temple's carved reliefs were razed by followers of the Christian faith which came to dominate Egypt. The blackened ceiling of the hypostyle hall, visible today, is believed to be the result of arson intended to destroy religious imagery that was then considered pagan. Over the centuries, the temple became buried to a depth of 12 metres (39 ft) beneath drifting desert sand and layers of river silt deposited by the Nile. Local inhabitants built homes directly over the former temple grounds. Only the upper reaches of the temple pylons were visible by 1798, when the temple was identified by a French expedition. In 1860 Auguste Mariette, a French Egyptologist, began the work of freeing Edfu temple from the sands. The Temple of Edfu is nearly intact and a very good example of an ancient Egyptian temple. The Temple of Edfu's archaeological significance and high state of preservation has made it a centre for tourism in Egyptand a frequent stop for the many riverboats that cruise the Nile. In 2005, access to the temple was revamped with the addition of a visitor center and paved carpark. A sophisticated lighting system was added in late 2006 to allow night visits. The temple of Edfu is the largest temple dedicated to Horus and Hathor of Dendera. It was the center of several festivals sacred to Horus. Each year, Hathor travelled south from her temple at Denderah to visit Horus at Edfu, and this event marking their sacred marriage was the occasion of a great festival and pilgrimage.

Happy 2 year Egyptian Revolution. Eye of Horus have only just begun. I love you Egypt
Two years ago the Egyptian people had had enough of being downtrodden, abused and restricted by a corrupt regime. We had hopes and dreams that the revolution would give us the freedom and democracy we craved and DESERVED. Sadly, it appears that we have just been given an 'EXCHANGE' from one regime to another and at least 75% of the people, especially here in Luxor, Upper Egypt where I live, are now feeling despondent, unmotivated and betrayed by a president and government that they thought would honour the expectations of the revolution. Luxor relies 100% on income from tourism and since the revolution there has only been a small fraction of the tourists visiting the city that came before. Luxor is THE MAIN centre for 'Historical Tourism' as we have the majority of all the Ancient Egyptian monuments and about one-third of all the religious monuments worldwide and the Luxor people desperately need people to come back and visit, in the numbers we did before, somply to be able to earn a living to support their families. So, NO, nobody here in Luxor is CELEBRATING the revolution today.

Magic Egypt - Egypt Tourism Guide
Jewellery played different roles in Egypt. In addition to the affinity of human beings, by nature, for something beautiful; the jewelry had a religious and magical significance in the world of the ancient Egyptian, to protect the wearer from evil. The Ancient Egyptians began making jewelry during the Badari and Naqada, in prehistoric times, from simple materials. Such as: plant branches, shells, beads, solid stones or bones, and these were arranged in threads of flax or cow hair. To give these stones some brilliance
Chanel presents Egyptian-themed collection around The Met's Temple of Dendur
An ancient Egyptian temple at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art provided the setting for Chanel's latest catwalk show, when the French fashion house debuted a collection featuring glittering tweeds, golden garments and bold jewels.
The catwalk looped The Met's Temple of Dendur – an Ancient Egyptian monument completed in 10BC – to create an appropriate setting for the debut of Chanel's 2018/19 Métiers d'art collection earlier this week.
With a taste for elaborate shows, creative director Karl Lagerfeld chose the decorative sandstone temple to provide the backdrop for the presentation, as well as inform the Egyptian-style aesthetic of the pieces.
Egyptian civilisation has always fascinated me: I get inspired by an idea, which I make a reality, said Lagerfeld in a project statement.
Floating regal garments, bold geometric prints and lavishly colourful accessories featured throughout the collection, along with plenty of golden garments in sparkling, shimmering and crackled textures.
Beige, white and black tweeds – a Chanel staple – are threaded with mohair, gold and beaded cotton.
I think the image of this collection is very much down to this refinement which should be seen close up, almost touched, to understand how it is done and to really appreciate the beauty of this work, said Lagerfeld, who also drew on the antiquities for pieces in his first sculptural exhibition.
Other motifs included the Ancient Egyptian scarab beetle, which can be seen a necklace, buttons, belt buckle, earrings and handbags, while the models' makeup resembled the Eye of Horus.
American music producer Pharrell Williams – who is set to collaborate with Chanel – was adorned with the facial marking while modelling baggy gold trousers and a bejewelled jumper.
Other features of this year's garments were intended asa nod to New York, including street-art-style graphics on printed t-shirts, and a patched denim two-piece worn by model Kaia Gerber. New York, it's an energy and a melting pot of cultures, it's very stimulating, said Lagerfeld.

The Temple of Edfu is very dramatic. It is dedicated to Horus and was built in Greco Roman times. Horus was the god of the sky whose eyes were the sun and the moon.

Ancient Egyptian Visitation But Why Was horus Involved
The pharaohs of Egypt were associated with Horus since the pharaoh was considered to be the earthly embodiment of the god. ... This change in belief created the myth about Horus and Seth in which Seth was jealous of Osiris (his brother and king of the deities) because he himself wanted to be king.

Pyramids of Giza and Obelisks in Egypt
Huge obelisks made of solid granite pose a mystery, as it would have been difficult to have worked with this stone thousands of years ago. The quarries at Aswan can be visited, and you can see the Unfinished Obelisk. Others reside at the Temple of Karnak. Located within 2000 square meters, these pyramids are one of the 7 wonders of the world. Visitors can go for camel rides around the pyramids. Saqqara is another stepped pyramid with subterranean tombs loaded with hieroglyphics.
