A look at Eynsford Castle.Begun around 1085-7 and largely undisturbed by later building activity, Eynsford Castle is unusual in that it did not have a keep or great tower. Instead, the principal domestic apartments were situated on the first floor of the castle's hall, the ruins of which can still be explored by visitors today.

EYNSFORD CASTLE EXPLORE (11th century) Paranormal investigation UK
Eynsford Castle is a ruined medieval fortification in Eynsford, Kent. Built on the site of an earlier Anglo-Saxon stone burh, the castle was constructed by William de Enysford, probably between 1085 and 1087, to protect the lands of Lanfranc, the Archbishop of Canterbury, from Odo.
This place sure is #Haunted so I decided to #Explore and do a #Paranormal investigation here.

Invented in the early decades of the 19th century, photography by means of the camera seemed able to capture more detail and information than traditional media, such as painting and sculpture. Photography as a usable process dates to the 1820s with the discovery of chemical photography.
The first medium was photographic plate.

The first permanent photoetching was an image produced in 1822 by the French inventor Nicéphore Niépce, but it was destroyed in a later attempt to make prints from it.
Niépce was successful again in 1825. In 1826 or 1827, he made the View from the Window at Le Gras, the earliest surviving photograph from nature (i.e., of the image of a real-world scene, as formed in a camera obscura by a lens)
Eynsford Castle Kent explored
Here I take a look around the ancient ruins of the Early Norman Castle of Eynsford in Kent.
The substantial flint stone curtain wall with moat were constructed around 1085 - 1087 probably by William de Eynsford, a knight & sheriff of Kent on an earlier Saxon structure. The defences were further strengthened & the curtain wall raised to 10 metres in the late 11th or early 12th century & a hall & associated buildings were erected inside the castle walls.
Ransaked in 1312 the castle was subsequently abandoned.
During the mid-18th century Eynsford Castle was used for stabling & the kennelling of hunting hounds for the Hart Dyke family for the estate at Lullingstone Castle...........

Eynsford Castle is a stone Norman castle in the English county of Kent, within the civil parish bounds of the village of Eynsford.
It was historically the manor owning most of the land of the village. Built in 1088 and occupied by local nobility but ransacked in the 14th century it fell into decay and is now in the care of English Heritage and open to the public.
Standing within a picturesque village, Eynsford Castle is a rare example of an early Norman 'enclosure castle'. Built by the Eynsford family, the castle became the subject of a disputed inheritance. It culminated in an act of vandalism in 1312. From that point, the castle was abandoned.
The castle was round and surrounded by a moat. Inside the stone wall and flint were once homes, which burned in the thirteenth century but was rebuilt, however, to be abandoned in the fourteenth century, leaving the ruins of a certain size.
They date from the nineteenth century and thus what is one of the oldest castles of stone in England.

EYNSFORD VIADUCT
This impressive nine-arched red-brick viaduct was built by the independent Sevenoaks Railway to carry the Swanley to Sevenoaks line across the River Darent, it opened in 1862.
The viaduct has nine arches of 30-foot span and rises to a height of 75 feet above the valley.

Eynsford to Otford via Shoreham (Kent)
A bank holiday adventure in and around this lovely part of Kent
Time Out Walks, Book 1, Walk 23, Otford to Eynsford. 13/1/13.
This is another shortish walk of 8.8 miles in the county of Kent.
Setting out on a bright day, with a bitter wind, the walker is soon leaving the station behind and passing 'Uranus', one of Otford's Solar System miniatures. Thereafter, it's across fields and along lanes for some fine views from Meenfield Wood. Then, there's a gentle descent into the pretty village of Shoreham where lunch can be had at any one of three hostelries, or, in this case, in the porch of the fine village church.
Reinvigorated, the walker continues along the Darent Valley Path to then join The Millennium Footpath for a section of uphill walking. As usual from heights, the views offer great recompense.There's then some woodland walking before coming out onto a golf course, with some fine views, and then reaching Lullingstone Park, with its Visitor Centre and Castle.
Thereafter, it's on past Lullingstone Roman Villa, and under an impressive Victorian rail viaduct before an optional detour to another castle ruin at Eynsford (not taken today). Eynsford rail station follows shortly after.
Another impressive shorter walk that is just over half an hour from Central London.
(First Snowdrops of the season seen today outside the church wall of St Bartholomew's, and what appeared to be ludicrously early Primroses in Mill Lane, Shoreham, though neither filmed, unfortunately).

The picturesque little village of Eynsford has a medieval bridge with a ford, the remains of a Norman castle and many pretty half-timbered and white weather-boarded cottages.
The village derives its name from Aegen, a well-established Anglo-Saxon name -- hence Aegensford, contracted to Eynsford, the ford of Aegen.
The village of Eynsford lies on the river Darent on the side of the North Downs. The river here is very clear. You can see the bottom of the shallow river and small fish swimming.
WALKING IN KENT | EYNSFORD
I was joined by Candice again on our 5th date together, for a 5 mile walk in and around Eynsford in Kent. This walk had loads of history, including 2 castles, a church and even a Roman Villa! It followed a section of the Darent Valley Path with views of the River Darent and some stretches of woodland walking through Lullingstone Park.
