FC BASEL ULTRAS - BEST MOMENTS
FC BASEL ULTRAS - BEST MOMENTS
FC Basel is known for having a big and loyal local following. When polls are conducted about the most passionate club football fans, FC Basel's fans usually make the top 200 if not top 100 in the world, resulting in what is by far the highest average attendance in Switzerland with around 30,000 fans attending every home game and with the new extension being built that number is expected to rise to around 40,000. The fans have also made themselves a name in numerous international matches in recent years.
FCB's most internationally famous fan is tennis star Roger Federer. Federer is a Basel native and has supported the club since childhood and appears in attendance at many Basel matches. In one interview Federer said if he were not as good of a tennis player as he is today, he would have without a doubt tried to play football. He went on to say that if he had been successful in the beautiful game, he would have loved to play for FC Basel.
In November 2010 their supporters caused the game against FC Luzern to be stopped after they threw hundreds of tennis balls onto the pitch. This was in protest at the kick off times being moved to accommodate a tennis tournament on the TV schedule.
The city of Basel and the city of Zürich have a long-standing rivalry. Therefore, FCB's most traditional and fiercest rivals are Grasshopper Club Zürich and FC Zürich. In the past few seasons, the rivalry between FC Zürich and Basel has been fueled by Zürich's narrow league championship wins over Basel. Supporters from both sides have caused trouble in the past years, with the worst incident happening in May 2006. Basel had won the league in 2003–04 and 2004–05 and were set to make it three in a row if they won or drew against Zürich at home on the last day of the 2005–06 season. Zürich took the lead after a late goal from Iulian Filipescu and consequently won the match and the league. After the final whistle, players and fans from both teams started fighting on the pitch and in the stands. This incident has fueled hatred and bitterness between fans from FC Zürich and FC Basel. There is controversy about which rivalry is bigger, the one with Grasshopper or FC Zürich, but it usually depends on the success of these teams.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. The canton of Basel-Landschaft is one of the 26 cantons of Switzerland. The Canton of Basel Land at the gates of the city of Basel boasts a variety of beautiful landscapes, impressive natural and cultural jewels. There is a lot to discover in the region of Basel, whether one travels in the footsteps of the Romans, cruises on the Rhine, or undertakes a biking tour in the Jura.
2. The lands of the canton Basel-Landschaft are part of the lands acquired by the city of Basel. Until the end of the 16th century, most of the canton's land belonged to the city of Basel. The country was economically dependent on the city, most probably because of the low level of education in the agricultural areas at the time. After 1830 there were political quarrels and armed conflict in the canton of Basel. Some of these were concerned with the rights of the population in the agricultural areas. They ultimately led to the separation of the canton Basel-Landschaft from the city of Basel on 26 August 1833. Since then, there has been a movement for reunification. This movement gained momentum after 1900 when many parts of Basel-Landschaft became industrialized. The two half cantons agreed in principle to merge, but in 1969 the people of Basel-Landschaft voted down a referendum on this proposal in favour of retaining their independence.
3. In Roman times, the area of Basel was a centre of Roman activity. There are well-preserved remains at the site of Augusta Raurica in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Around 200 AD there were about 20,000 people living in this city, now part of the much smaller Augst. The remains are on display in an open-air museum. The museum attracts over 140,000 visitors per year. Many of these visitors are schoolchildren from other parts of Switzerland. The site of Augusta Raurica includes the best-preserved amphitheatre north of the Alps, and a reconstructed Roman villa.
4. Liestal is the capital of Liestal District and the canton of Basel-Landschaft. The name Liestal was first mentioned in 1225, and the settlement dates at least from Roman times. The Depot of Archeology of Basel-land, the Frenkenbrücke (bridge), the Munzach which was a Roman farmhouse, the Roman aqueduct and the Cantonal Archive of Basel-Landschaft are listed as Swiss heritage site of national significance. The entire old town of Liestal is listed in the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites.
5. On the Sunday night after Mardi Gras, Chienbäse is celebrated with a spectacular parade and bonfires, from which the celebration takes its name. The tradition goes back at least to the 16th century. Other towns in the neighborhood also celebrate in a similar manner.
6. In 2013, Basel-Landschaft had 281,112 inhabitants, 18.1% of whom were foreigners. Most of the residents are German-speaking. The most populated church in the Evangelical Lutheran Church was 43% of the population in 2000 and 32% of the Catholic. Between 1959 and 1970, the population in this canton increased the most; practically doubled from 108 thousand to 205 thousand.
7. The Jura mountain chain traverses the canton. The name Jura is derived from juria, a Latinized form of a Celtic stem jor- forest. The mountain range gives its name to the French department of Jura, the Swiss Canton of Jura, the Jurassic period of the geologic timescale, and the Montes Jura of the Moon.

Football - Faith. Love. Hope.
Football – Faith. Love. Hope.
An interactive exhibition about legendary footballers, epic games and the intensity of feeling that football evokes.
13th of March to 16th of August 2015, Museum of Histroy, Basel
Football stirs the passions of people everywhere. For many fans, it is more than just a game they happen to be crazy about. Football shapes their whole life. It gives them a sense of purpose. It is also a great bridge builder, even if it can be a source of conflict. So has football become a global religion? Has the fan club taken the place of the parish? Is going to the match the modern-day equivalent of going to Mass?
With photographs, films, music, fan wear and personal memorabilia, the exhibition will point up fascinating parallels between football, religion and society.

The Kunstmuseum Basel's Picasso-Story, Part I
In 1967, Picasso’s Les deux frères and Arlequin assis were to be offered for sale on the international market. The people of Basel approved the allocation of CHF 6 million of taxpayer funds and raised another CHF 2 million during a “beggars’ festival,” enabling the Öffentliche Kunstsammlung Basel, the municipal art collection of Basel, to purchase the two paintings. Picasso was so moved that he donated four more works to the city.
