Woodend Mill in Mossley, Greater Manchester, UK, is an old stone cotton mill built in 1848 beside the River Tame, and very close to the Huddersfield Canal. The mill ceased cotton proiduction in 1951 and has been home to various light manufacturing industries. In recent years it accommodated craft studios. Filmed 22 Oct 2012 on a wet and windy day.

Hooke Park Conversation - Organised by Design + Make

As a woodland satellite to an international architecture school, the Hooke Park project aims to realise the AA's unique opportunity to fully engage with large scale fabrication, craft, technology, material behaviour, forestry and land - establishing a symbiotic relationship between experimental architectural production and the forest surroundings.

Curated by the Design + Make programme, this Conversation opens the on-going shaping of these ambitions to the AA community via the emerging Wakeford Hall project, revisits historical and recent projects and looks into what the future holds for Hooke Park.

The speakers will include past and current Design + Make students, AA-staff and architects who developed work at Hooke Park, alumni and friends.

The afternoon with consists of series of pairs of presentations, followed by an open discussion and drinks. A selection of models, prototypes and components from Hooke Park will be exhibited in the Lecture Hall on the day.

Speakers will include: William Moorwood, Christopher Sadd, Nozomi Nakabayashi, Shin Egashira, Clementine Blakemore, Zachary Mollica, Kate Davies, alongside D+M students and directors Martin Self and Emmanuel Vercruysse.

Textile Artisan Gene Mignola works closely with costume designers, taking patterns and creating fabric that ultimately conveys their vision. He explains how printing fabric has evolved over the years from designs done by hand on paper to computer-aided drawings, and from using single-color silkscreens to digital printers. He also talks about how his interest in fabrics began in childhood, the foundation for his work experience, and why he loves his job.

Maine Beer Box Journey 2018

Maine's brewers have created an incredible piece of machinery to share their beer with beer fans around the world; The Maine Beer Box is a custom-built, 40 foot, refrigerated shipping container, complete with 78 beer taps on the side and a fully self-contained, C02 draft system.
In August of 2018, the Maine Beer Box was trucked over 1,000 miles around the state of Maine to pick up over 400 kegs of beer from 65 brewers taking part in the 2018 Global Brewers Trade effort between craft beer brewers from Maine and craft beer brewers from the United Kingdom. This is the video of that journey.
After shipping the Beer Box around Maine and across the North Atlantic, the Maine Beer Box and Maine beers will be featured at the Leeds International Beer Festival from September 6-9, where all 78 draft lines will be pouring fresh Maine beer to the 12,000+ attendees. After the event, brewers from around the United Kingdom will fill the Maine Beer Box up with their beers and the Maine Beer Box will be shipped back over to Maine to be featured at the Winter Session International Beer Festival on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 - thereby completing the global brewers trade. This event will serve as the capstone event to Portland Beer Week, a weeklong series of events in Portland, Maine celebrating all things beer.
